The Isolated Blurt Thread XXXVII: You're Welcome, Fuckers

first corn in, asparagus beans in, potatoes, onions, leeks and garlic all growing, 2nd batch of beans ready to go in and the rest of the corn not far off.

Usually I pot up the cuke seeds but maybe this year I'll grow them directly, same as the carrots.
*looks through code notes* Wow! You really did that??? With Harry?? Hope he wasn't injured. Damn you're crazy!

:p

I’m off to buy some citric acid for me herbs and garlic. Because apparently preserving garlic in olive oil isn’t safe and you can get sick and die? I’ve been eating it for years like that and never got sick. However. The last thing anyone needs right now is a case of the bots, so we will go to Woolies and get acid.

So obviously the recent severe weather hasn’t set back your “grow operation”.

👍

You still have Woolworths?

You still have Woolworths?

Yes. Coles and Woolworths dominate the supermarket chain down here. They aren’t going anywhere. Around 65-70% of sales. I mostly go there for cat food and Bibigo vegetable dumplings. I much prefer the smaller, local butcher/deli/fruit shops for produce. Better quality and way more affordable. Woolies and Coles are well known to be a fucking rip off. I like Aldi here in NSW, but in other states the quality seems to be a bit average.

not so much, no... I was growing stuff on in pots in the sun room, so a few things were a little later getting into the actual beds but not so much the growing part.

got the regular green bean plants in today, 30 of them, so just the second batch of corn still growing in pots to get out, plus the cuke and carrot seeds. And toms and peppers when we buy the plants.

Toms and peppers, huh?? I know what that means.......you naughty minx

cuke bed fertilized and seeds all planted.

tomorrow, plant the rest of the corn.

also made a fruit'n'nut soda bread. Never tried one before, thinking it was something very dark and not appetising-looking, but saw them making it on the Great American Baking Show and saw it looked very much like making an American buttermilk biscuits dough. Added golden raisins, cranberries, chopped apricots & prunes plus chopped pecans. Came out fairly nice. H wants a sweeter dough next time and even more fruit... such a sweet-tooth. :p

I caught a bit of that episode: The contestants’ results looked pretty scrummy.

👍

How did the soda bread flavor compare to the flavor of a scone? I always found scones inedible without something to wash them down with. The soda bread, with all that added fruit, etc. had to be sweeter and moister, no???

🤔

You're doing this again?? Hope you remembered to use more lube this time. Remember what happened to H the last time you attempted this. You told me you are still paying for the hospital visits. Kinky woman

hi, L :)

a scone is too dry on its own, that's why it needs cream and strawberry jam inside to make it scrumptious.

I found the bread fine, definitely more like American biscuit than scone (this recipe used 1 egg: some had none, others as many as 3) and the fruit gave lovely pops of sweetness in a dough I found not exactly sweet but close. It used a quarter cup of sugar and I know H would have preferred more... I ate it warm with butter yesterday, and straight this morning with a cup of coffee. H is currently tucking into a thick, unbuttered slice as we speak so must be finding the fruit in it sweet enough even if he would like more.

what did I tell you about loose lips sinking ships, woman? As I recall, it was more along the lines of "if I tell you, I'll have to kill you..." so you're a lucky-arsed mofo that I'm too hot from planting all that corn to be murderous :D

*goes off to corner* I think I'll just shut up over here. This looks like a good spot to shut up. 🥺

so no gardening today other than watering this evening, as I was busy getting tomorrow's food ready... poached chicken breast and ham cold in slices, with devilled eggs, potato salad, green beans, lettuce/toms and a strawberry wine sponge cake with a strawberry cream cheese filling/topping. All I have to do tomorrow is the table, which I'll do while his mum's at church. Too hot for hot food so a nice cold lunch sounds about right.

*stays in the Shut Your Mouth corner* Yep yep. Not saying a word. 🤫
