I have HEARTBURN. I don't know why - I've eaten today. I had a parfait for breakfast, a pork chop for lunch, and a cookie at M's.

Hmm... that doesn't look much like 1000 calories, let alone 1500.

Well, no . . BUT I ATE. And I still have dinner to eat, and that's gonna be a chicken/alfredo dish I found a recipe for. I think that'll be a ton of calories all by it's lonesome.

Load some extra cheese on your portion. ;) (I forgot it's only 6:30 your time - dang near *bed*time in my part of the world!)

Dinner was tuna with peas and olive oil. M confessed to a candy bar today. Dammit.

more crap today. and on top of that i got my period so my sweet tooth has been on overdrive.

my younger brother helped me do some situps and push ups earlier (which is good becuase over the last few days ive earned myself 100 push ups and 50 sit ups). hes aiming to go into the military so he matched everything i did and i managed to do 25 push ups and all 50 situps.

ETA: just did 50 more push ups wih my youger bro. so now i only have 25 left.

Good idea. And don't worry - most people have a moment when I talk about what's going on around here, cause of the time difference. It's amazing how many times it'll be like 9 or 10 my time and I'll mention I'm putting kids to bed and they'll be like THEY'RE STILL UP? lol

I think it's time gracie changed her user title, to something like "Her Royal Cheesy Chocolateness." Hmm... that doesn't sound quite right. "Her Cheesy Royal Chocolateness?" Noooo... Oh, well - we'll think of something.

Maybe a warning 'i might cut the cheese'. :p

Favorite Ab workout?

So, my workouts are mostly walking at this point with some of that being on an elliptical machine. I do sit-ups but that only goes so far. I'm toning everywhere even in my stomach but as I age the tummy is the hardest to tone. I know I need to get back on track with my Pilates DVD for my "core" workout.

I was just wondering what others do to get their tummies toned. I think it's a common problem. I'm interested in everyone's comments especially those like me who have (or have had) at least 50 pounds to lose.

Ummm. Well, first of all I am *exhausted*. Turns out that physio up to this point was to build core muscles, and now that I have them, we're doing harder core stuff. Like stepping up and down on a step for three minutes, squats with a weight, and stuff like that. Very sweaty and mich higher intensity than before.

Ab stuff? Okay, let me say first that there is a possibility that I have arthritis in my back so we haven't done crunches or anything. One thing I've done on a mat is bend my knees, have my calves out at 90 degrees, and move my legs in toward my chest while on my back. 2 sets of 12-15 reps. Hold a big exercise ball, pushing on it with bent arms and bent legs lifted off the ground while on my back; take turns extending one arm and the opposite leg at the same time; do this twice, at least 20 times (10 for each arm and leg), we're working toward 30 right now.
These are done while holding your abs in. There are others but they're hard to describe.

Ivy
Ive been using Hip-Hop Abs with Shawn T by Beachbody. It is basically like high powered aerobics but with a stomach tightening.. It is AMAZING I can feel it everyday I use it.. ;)

Thanks for the tips folks. I was wondering about an exercise ball but thought it might be cumbersome. I might try it after all. I don't know about high-powered aerobics yet. I'm still working my way up. I've had progress albeit slow. :)

I don't know what I'm going to do now. The excercise ball seems like a good idea. The thing that I think works best is urging or rowing, but you'd have to go out and buy a new piece of equipment. I had nice abs once. *sniffle*

And so it begins...

Ok, I'm finally getting serious here. No more lurking while drinking iced lattes and eating chocolate.

My friend just started taking Alli. She lost five pounds in one week without doing much other than changing her diet slightly.
I'm doing it with her. I just started yesterday. I can say that it really isn't that bad. I've tried diet supplements before, and they tasted weird and made me all jittery (especially with all that coffee I drink). :p
Alli is famous for not only being the first FDA approved diet pill, but also for having some nasty side effects.
Well, I'm happy to report that my stomach is fine. I have IBS, and I'm absolutely, 100%, perfectly fine. They come in capsules, so they go down easy too.
As long as you stay under 15 grams of fat per meal yes, you can wear white pants. I don't think I'll do the Alli forever, but I thought it was worth trying.
I also kicked the coffee habit. Now, I'm drinking like 6 cans of diet coke per day to make up for it, but I have to start somewhere.
I kicked smoking, I can kick coffee. Baby steps, baby steps.
I also picked up a cheapo pedometer. I actually enjoy competing with myself to see how I can work in more steps per day.

I need to get more things with protein in them.
I keep thinking, "What am I supposed to eat now?" Not exactly reassuring. I have also gone to bed and woken up hungry, which is not so good. My workouts are now high intensity, which means that I should be eating more to keep the calorie deficit from getting too large, but I think I'm eating less. There were actually a couple points during the workout where I was leaning over gasping for breath - 90 minutes of high intensity is a bit much, I am definitely going to eat more before I go later today - I'm considering peanut butter.
Hopefully that book, which arrived today, will have some suggestions.

I've heard of Alli. I've been nervously considering it, cause I have IBD. I read in WomansWorld (or something - I was in a waiting room) about it being FDA approved. *bites nails* Ooooh, decisions, decisions.

A thought, though. If you're keeping your fat that low, wha'ts makign you lose weight? Alli, or your diet change? Hm.

Well, the friend that I'm doing it with has IBD. She started out slowly. You're supposed to take it three times per day, and she started out taking just one pill per day.

I know what you mean about the low fat, and they say that Alli isn't supposed to lose the weight for you, just help you lose more than you normally would. Now, supposedly, if you were on a low fat diet and you lost 10lbs, with Alli you'd lose 15. You have a 50% increase in your weight loss. Besides there's always the conditioning aspect of it. If you eat bad things, you'll be sent a nasty reminder to not do it again.

I have heard of people who just took it, suffered the consequences, never got off the couch, and still managed to lose weight.

It's not for everyone though. I'm still not even sure if it's for me. I figured it was worth trying. So far so good. I've lost three pounds in four days. Inconsequential really, but we'll see if I lose more.

I finally started losing again!! WooHooo !! I was geting so depressed because I was doing all the right things and stayig the same.

So I really changed things up. I added swimming to my exercise plan. I used to swim competitively in high school and 1 yr of college (many yrs ago) so I decided to get back to it. I have just added in 30 min per day each day this week along with my walking and yoga.

I have also decreased carb intake not to nothing but no more pasta centered meals or sandwiches. Added in more fish and more vegetables main dishes. I've lost 5 lbs since Mon.

I have a prescription for Xenical, which is the prescription strength of Alli. I don't actually take it any more...
But what it does is block about 30% of your dietary fat from being absorbed. These are not absorbed as calories as a result. It exits through your colon. If you are eating too much fat, it is going to cause you bad side effects. And I can tell you anything you want to know about those.
I hardly ever took it 3x a day, and recently I was having problems with IBS symptoms that made me decide to stop taking it altogether. I'm really happier off it, to tell you the truth.
Plus, if you have something fat free there's no point in taking it - so if you have a salad or fruit or whatever for breakfast, (or oatmeal), there's no point taking it because the amount of fat you're blocking is so tiny it's useless.
I don't know what percentage of fat Alli blocks. Probably less.
Xenical will only help you lose about 25 pounds or so anyway. Studies have shown it. After that it's pretty much up to you. And if you don't change your eating habits when you go off it you'll regain, because you're now getting that percentage of fat back in your system.
I'm doing ok because I have changed my habits. Yesterday I had NO butter at all!

More importantly I went to the dentist this morning and my gingivitis is much better. I have been working on getting it under control for almost two years and now it's really paying off. I can stop obsessing about it - my grandmother died of congestive heart failure, so I worried I was laying myself open to it.

Well I am now down to 72.5kg, a loss of 400g (about a pound) in a month. I'd plateaued for ages before this so I'm pleased, what with being too busy with the home haemo training to get to the gym.

My personal trainer is away on holiday but she's left me a program of cardio and weights to do while she's away. On Monday I did a Pilates class first time for ages and my tummy muscles certainly complained  Yesterday 10 mins treadmill, 10 mins cycle, 15 mins cross trainer and 10 mins rowing one after the other got my heart rate going, and she wants me to do a couple of classes a week of cycle and bodypump....*puff puff* :nana:

I was recently reading up on birthing balls (and I will definitely be getting one for my sister), but I'm considering getting one for me to sit on while I'm on the computer. I could start exercising my stomach muscles, which are SHOT. I couldn't do even one sit up if you paid me.

Is that the same as an exercise ball? I do some of my exercises on one of those. I have one around here, too, but I haven't seen it in ages. LOL, we did one exercise yesterday where you start sitting on the ball and slide down, and you're eventually just supporting your upper back, head and shoulders with the ball with the rest of your trunk and your thighs parallel to the ball. I was sure I couldn't do it until I tried. It's more supportive than you'd think, but I'd recommend someone keeping the ball steady. Very good for ab work. The front of my thighs is SO sore today!

Nuts yogurt cheese, I scarf handfuls of walnuts before and after working out. Little ones. Working out hungry never works, but too full doesn't either. You can do something really sinful for a snack and grate your cheese onto a non stick pan, pull it up and you have these thin crispy things which are great with salsa. (technically you have to make the salsa yourself, but I'm not always as extreme as I was that year)

I was down this week, but had Japanese food out - had saba mackerel grilled and rice, good, but also some tempura (not)

Probably the same. *shrugs* I"m not sure - I did read that it was originally used by physical therapists. I'm not sure I can do some of the exercises I was seeing on the site, but I could sit. :D
