She does, and it is cute. I had an ~20# medicine ball that I made, and she used to have the best time playing with it. She's clean it and then do a push press. With it being a ball, and water-filled, it was unstable, and tough for her to control, but she did it. She can also deadlift my olympic bar. Pretty good for a kid that weighs about as much as the bar to be able to pick it up. And she can do a pretty good standing military press with the 25# standard bar that I have. She's strong for a seven year old! :D

Get A's permission, and get close enough to me for the rope to reach you, and we'll do some lower body work, or maybe upper body stuff that doesn't touch the shoulders. I can accomodate, we just have to be careful, and I would accomodate you because I'm just that kinda nice guy.

*looks innocent*
1- you arent innocent, nobody believes you, so stop trying

2- my shoulder only bothers me 2 percent of the time (todday happening to be one of those 2 percent)

3- i got the ok from my doctor to dance and workout, im sure a little rope wouldnt be a problem (please)

revelation... as opposed to trying to convince you it IS ok, when you seem to know what you are talking about, can you please tell me why i shouldnt be doing ropework with my shoulder?

Nobody believes me? But I emote innocence so well!

Well, then you can wait for the other 98% of the time, right?

Did you ask him about immobilisation? Constant torsion? Blood flow restriction? Temporary nerve impingement?

See above.

A core issue in ropework is the idea of stress positions. The short version is that some positions are more stressful than other, and this is usually what is being talked about when a rope bottom talks about a tie being comfortable, strenuous, etc. A comfortable tie is a low-stress position, whereas a strenuous tie is a high-stress position, or just a stress position, with no reference being given to low-stress ties.

Basically ropework that involves the arms will immobilise the shoulder. If the shoulder is injured, ANY position can be a stress position, and immobilising the shoulder prevents you from repositioning should that position become stressful. In your case, you've got existing nerve issues (impingement or subluxation or whatever), thus nerve pressure becomes a HUGE concern. It's also twitchy because nerve issues don't always give you warning. Blood flow is easier. Hands get cold, skin gets red, there are signs. With nerve trouble, they can slowly go numb, lose strength, or be fine up until they start hurting like crazy for no apparent reason.

Now, if you have issues in the rotator cuff, it gets even more exciting. The muscles that make up the rotator cuff are these teeny little things, and they operate in the most complex joint in the human body. If you have existing issues in the rotator cuff, things can get exciting quickly. Certain positions can feel fine until something tears, then nothing feels good any more and your Top is scrambling to get the shears in play.

The point is that certain health issues complicate things when you are dealing with rope. Rope takes time, and you will be in one basic position for quite a while. You have to be able to hold that position. And if you have an issue that may require you to be freed right the hell now, I get to take shears to my happy rope. If you're talking hand-conditioned imported Japanese hemp, that HURTS. In my case, I use nylon, so whatever, but I still don't want to butcher the stuff (though I'll cut through any rope, no matter how expensive, if my bottom is in trouble, no contest between cost of rope and health of my rope bunny).

Many of these issues exist in any kind of bondage. You can get messed up with leather cuffs and arm binders and such. The difference between this sort of bondage and rope is manifold.

1) Leather cuffs and arm binders and such are much faster to put on and take off, so you will be in the stress position for a bit less time, and can be released far easier.

2) Arm-binders and their ilk tend to restrict only in very limited ways. You can only cause but so many problems with the restriction they're capable of.

3) Any old jackass can buy arm-binders and slap em on, and the only investment is money. If you are going to take the time to learn how to do ropework correctly, you are also (hopefully) going to learn how to protect your bottom.

And we haven't even gotten into circulatory issues. Any time anyone has low blood pressure, poor circulation, is on meds to slow down their heart rate, etc, precautions have to be taken.

Does that help explain why I would have concerns?

EDIT: Please note that lower body and torso work would be perfectly fine. Stuff that puts stress on the shoulder would not. You could be tied, but certain ties are a no-go.

i need a little support. when im at school, there is food already cooked three meals a day. all i have to do is go get it. its not particularly good food, and it can be tough to choose healthy food, but its there.

when im home, there is almost no food in the house and what is there i have to make myself. i find myself going for the unhealthy crappy food becuase its there, and i cant go out and go food shopping myself (long story involving having a liscense but still being terrified to drive and not yet having dirven alone in the car).

also, i seem to be surrounded by ddesserts. everywhere i go they are there and being offered to me.

i am trying to keep eating healthy, but im having a really tough time of it so far this week.

*hugs* I feel your pain...

it was easy when Master visited to rationalize going out for dinner or cheating ont he diet..and now it's harder than ever to not go to the vending machine and grabbing that bag of chips..or chocolate.. or to rationalize it with.."well I'll burn it off at the gym... "

even with unhealthy stuff.. there can be the "better"choice.. or perhaps, say to whomever does the shopping.. "I'm trying to eat what's better for me, would you mind picking up somethings that I can make for lunch.. or to snack on?" or.. maybe ask someone to go with you..

As far as the desserts, I know, I'm dreading thanksgiving because of them..but I've already planned.. in my head at least.. to allow myself 1 spoonful of the things I love... okay..maybe two of cranberry salad.. that have carbs.. things that dont.. (turkey... hehe) I can have more of.. if I want.. and I may reward myself with half a piece of pie.. but no sneaking back in for that other half later.

My toughest thing .. will be my stuffing.. I make it homemade..once a year..and I LOVE It.. but it wont love me back..

and then Friday.. it'll be back to the gym..

I wish I had more to help with.. i'll send all my positive thoughts that I can...

A gave me a free meal for thanksgiving so i can eat what i like and not feel guilty, or have to do the sit ups i would otherwise have to do for not eating well that day.

my abs are actually sore from all the situps/brunches ive been doing to try to get back on track... about 800 in the past three days

800!?

Damnnnnnnnnnn

and here I was complaining about the 160 over the past two times at the gym :p

I'm glad you have a day to not feel guilty.. Thanksgiving should be about family and avoiding the fights...

its not that impressive.... aprox 500 of them are from part of a dance warm up that i do, and those are only crunches

as far as avoiding fights, i hope. thanksgiving is the only time both sides of my family are in the same place at the same time and there is almost always a loud and passionite argument, if not a full out fight

I only mentioned it because it was on the news tonight..

my side of the family is in Ohio..so I wont be seeing them..

We have Thanksgiving at Malin's parents... we go over and do all the cooking.. and usually there's one stressed MIL..but no fights.. (as long as she doesnt find out about my pierced nipples or our OSO's (other significant others).. )..

I'm sure you'll do fine.. it's tough..but you're a strong, determined woman..

The last time I did crunches I did a total of 240 or so press crunches with a 45# plate.

Press crunch is a variation where you grab a weight plate, DB, or loaded barbell, press it up over your chest just like a bench press, and then do crunches. It seriously works the abs in directions you would be surprised at, as your rotational muscles are stressed from keep the weight from tilting right or left. I  press crunches.

I do sets of 50 with the 45# plate. This means I need more weight =P

my friend is an iron junkie. shes a thrower on our track and field team. she was teaching me these. it seriously surprised her when i could do them with the amount of wieght i can. i may have limited upperbody strength, but my abs are my strong point.

Dance builds core strength. It requires loads of stabilisation, and that works to build core strength.

And throwers rock. If I had better explosive strength, I'd be going for Highland Games.

i was wondering what happened to this thread

thats awsome bholderman!!! keep up the good work.

as for me, im hanging in there with the gym and dance,, i have to find something to do over winter break since i wont be doing either really.

I'm not doing jack lately, except trying to get by without my head exploding and stuff like that. Which means I am eating comfort things.

I suck.

Brad..that's great. Sometimes slow and steady is the way to go.

i'm down to 161.5. My new apt complex has a gym on the premises so i am going to start working out there in the mornings.

My other "issues" are attempting to kick my ass once again, so i'm struggling...but i know i can beat it....or..well...at least "manage" it. (If you're curious and don't know, PM me or go back about 10ish pages.)

How is everyone else doing????

Aww. Mine looks like a little boy, but I stick pink hello kitty bandaids on him. What? I can raise him to be gay if I wanna! Kidding kidding.

Ok, I'm joining. What the fuckety fuck.

I have been a healthy eater and regular exerciser since I was 18. Since I got separated however, I allowed myself to not stress about it. I didn't slip too much in diet, since I was basically raised a healthy eater, but I haven't exercised for months, aside from some regular walking.

So I don't know that my life can accomodate the major gym workouts anymore. And also, I don't know how much those helped, really. I think me keeping off a pesky 5 pounds or so has a lot more to do with being strict on the diet.

So my goals are as follows:

(1) mindful eating: I'm not going to starve myself, but I would like to stick to eating small meals and/or snacks. This is hard for me, though I've become a lot better. Also - I know this makes me sound like a goody two shoes (which is kind of a kink of mine, but I'll save that for another thread!), but I would like to be more mindful of my consumption for environmental reasons as well.
(2) walking - I'd like to do walking as my main cardio. Maybe I should shoot for 3x a week for now. It's really hard to get this in at the moment.
(3) strength training. Hmmm. I used to do yoga, and I know a lot of strength training moves that use your own body weight, plus I have ten pounders at home. I need to set up a schedule for myself - that's the real challenge.

enter the test of willpower:

i just recieved in the mail from my grandmother a box of homemade brownie/ chocolate bites covered in powedered sugar.

i will not eat them all, i will not eat them all, i will not eat them all.....

I'm at an all time fat high. I've never weighed this much. :(

I've put myself on a mostly liquid diet. With the exception of dinner, I only eat liquid (slimfast, yogurt,s moothies, etc). We'll see how it works.
