The Offical PG Halloween thread.

Is this actually Yvonne?

Google image search says yes, that is Yvonne De Carlo.

Love this! Nice find lil' sis'!

My favorite holiday of all:heart::rose: Thank you so much for starting this thread

My pleasure! :)

My favorite scene in a horror movie... maybe any movie...

https://youtu.be/LtI0uG6tjew

Excellent choice!

I say the only horror movie that tops it would be Jaws

No personal bias, right? :D Jaws is a classic and easily among the greatest of all time. How could it not be when it made an entire generation afraid of swimming in the ocean?

My personal favorite though is A Nightmare On Elm Street (the original, obviously). It fully capitalizes on our biggest fear on a most basic level: things we can't control. We cannot control when we dream or how. Nightmares make our worst fears reality. When you put a face behind this fear of the uncontrollable, you get Freddy. You must sleep eventually so there is no running from him -- no escape. If you were to watch the movie and then dream of Freddy, how do you know it truly wasn't real? In concept, it's pure genius. In execution, it's ahead of its time. :)

The image is from a Munsters Promo shoot with her, however, the body and attire have been photoshopped. My GoogleFu was failing me and I couldn't find the original unaltered image. My ex used to collect 40's/50's style "Pin Up" promo cards. We had the one this photo was based on.

Interesting. Nice catch! It's a very convincing "shop job" all the same.

I love Freddy too. Have you ever seen the doc Never Sleep Again? It's all about the Freddy movies and it's amazing and incredibly comprehensive. I may have to watch it again. ;)

That's the one hosted by Robert Englund, yes?

Nah, this is actually narrated by Heather Langencamp from the first one. It's 4 hours and very comprehensive. It covers each movie and shows makeup tests from when they were still trying to figure out how to make Freddy look. At one point David Warner (Sark from Tron and a bunch of other stuff) was going to be Freddy. Pretty wild stuff!

They also dive into the homoerotic context of part 2 which is also pretty fascinating.

This is another "it's on Netflix, I think?" kinds of things. I've got it on Bluray though. ;)

Just to keep things rolling, I'll probably ask a generalized question each day that hopefully generates conversation. For today:

What are some of your Halloween traditions?

The last several years, I made myself part of the "display". Sitting outside in an appropriate costume to go with the theme of the decorations and handing out candy for the kids. Since the average temp was generally above 70f, I didn't bother with coffee for parents, but in years past, when it was cold, I would have coffee with fixings for parents set up as well at the edge of the garage.

Halloween night we usually always cook taco soup and invite over all of our friends. My neighborhood has a ton of kids so everyone goes all out. They usually do a hayride and everyone decorates and pulls pranks.

Halloween as a season I usually make a list of 10 horror movies I need to see and find the closest haunted houses, mazes etc. I really want to do this one in New Orleans this year.

Scramble together a costume at the last possible second. Haha. Last year I was Jughead from Archie/Riverdale.

Also lots of candy and pumpkin spice products. Although I'm eating better this year so I don't know if there's gonna be much of that.

When I was in school, there was always a Halloween party to go to, so that was fun. Other than that, it was just giving out candy on Trick or Treat night. Now that I have a son, I take him out for Trick or Treat and my mom or my brothers hand out the candy.

Still haven't decided what Isaiah will be this year. He wants to be spider man, so that's what he will probably be. I know, so original, right? :)

Ever jump out at people, or did you keep it a no-scare environment?

At my old house, we had a sidewalk out front with a stone walkway leading to the front porch. One year, we bought a bunch of $1 dolls from a dollar store and took the heads off, decorated them, and put them all on little posts. Then rigged them all together with thin fishing line so that when people would come up the walkway, we would pull on the string and the heads would turn on the posts and follow them as they walked. Freaked a lot of people out. It was awesome! :D

One of my traditions is to go through the Haunted Prison Experience in my hometown. It's the same prison that The Shawshank Redemption was filmed at. This year they dropped the Haunted Prison Experience name and are changing it up to "Blood Prison". They're going all out this year, and I'm super excited! Now I just need to find someone who isn't a chicken shit to go with me.

Having a hard time picturing you as Jughead. :D

Last year was the only year I hadn't been trick or treating with baby girl. I was in too much of a depressed funk. This year, I asked her, "What do you want to be for Halloween this year? A princess? A superhero? Doc McStuffin?" Her reply: "I want to be a scary vampire." Proud momma moment. :D:D:D

Before 8pm it was a no scare environment as we had a lot of little kids. Our neighborhood actually had a large gap in age, from early Elementary age (K-3) then it jumped to High school age. A number of the high schoolers would escort their little siblings then come back later in costume. So after 8pm, scare tactics could safely start. One year, my oldest son wanted to do a suspension in the front yard. My ex vetoed it, and if it had been possible to safely arrange, him and I would still have done it, but, we couldn't get the ropes secured properly in a way that would not have caused permanent damage to the house. If we had thought about it sooner, we could have totally gotten a metal framework welded together that would have allowed him to do it, and have the framework concealed within the front patio.

This would have been awesome! I love when people really get into Halloween. Gotta keep it cool for the little ones too though. :)

The neighbor at the end of the street made up "Body Bags" using trash bags and batting, then hung them from the tree in the front yard. Someone complained and the HOA made them take them down. (The bags were all black since, you know, "huge lawn and leaf bags") A couple of days later, they were back up, only this time they were made with plastic bags of various colors...

Sigh. The world we live in.

My senior year, my bff and I dressed up as hookers and our one guy friend dressed up as our pimp. We looked pathetic to say the least

We marched in the Halloween parade that year and we actually won a 3rd place ribbon, so I guess we didn't look all that bad. Fun times :)

I have pictures of that somewhere, so if I can find them, maybe I'll post one for Halloween.

My 9yr old painted her fingernails the other day. One hand was black. The other was red. She told me why....this hand is for the darkest night...and this is for the blood that will flow. That's my girl

Put up some decorations, some lights, hand out candy, even give some to parents!
