The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2023 Contest Support Thread

Mine's in the editing stages. I'll probably submit it Sunday night.

I never know what to write for this contest.

It's the easiest contest to write for. Summer is when temperatures rise and clothes come off. What's complicated about that? Summer vacation, beaches, bikinis, cutting loose and having fun, exotic tropical locations. You can easily accommodate any category to this contest.

Unless you one of the possibly thousands of Aussie and New Zealander authors posting here.
Their summer months may be different from ours, but somehow I imagine their summer, whatever its months, has similar connotations and arouses the erotic imagination in a similar way.

But comes at a different time of the year than the contest.

Yay!

I'll be traveling over the next week, so I think I'll go ahead and submit now. Lol.

ETA: Done! Submitted "My Alexander" in Mature and "The Kid From Pemaquid" in Erotic Couplings. EC is almost my least-favorite category in which to place a story, but the shoe fits in this case. So into EC it goes!
Why is it your least favorite?

#1 - Editing is complete and she's in the starting blocks
#2 - A bit more work to do but it will be ready

Jumped onto the bandwagon super late. Not sure I’ll make the deadline. We’ll see.

EB looked at the Norwegian Jotul 8 cast iron stove in the back room, its orange flame fierce from the well seasoned burning logs. He noted the two cats curled up in front of it, and the cold rain sheeting against the glass. He considered Lit's contest calendar, thinking, it's August, and Simon wants me to go to the beach?

He'll be wanting snow in December, next ;).

I don't have much luck there, historically. It's a catch-all category, meaning it's WAY oversubmitted, meaning it's also way underviewed. It always feels (unfairly) like a cop-out, putting things in there... but it's what's appropriate for this story.

It still depends on where you are. I'm looking at 12 C and grey skies, but Darwin has 30 C and sunshine.

Anyway, we'd be hopeless writers if we couldn't imagine a sunny day.

It should be, it's probably a me problem. I think I did one once.

I managed to pull one out of my ass in basically a day. and the deadline is, what; next month? Now I just don't need to forget, like I did the April Fools contest two years ago. Ugh.

I've submitted my story. It probably isn't necessary any more to do this seven days before the contest opens, but the longer I wait, the more likely I am to think there should be more editing. Enough is enough.

I ran into the editing trap and getting caught up in details before finishing the first draft. So today is many, many writing sprints and a few margaritas.

I'm at 8,093 words. I've written a bit over 1,000 words. This story is taking the long way around.

I am drunk and my word count is: 8,769. We're getting somewhere.

I just submitted my #1 - Stormwatch - The Love Boat
Josh and Veronica ride their rich neighbors yacht to a private island to escape a Buffalo winter and celebrate Summer on a tropical island.

Just submitted mine, it should go through without issues.

Vidi, Vici, Veni

It's I/T, just in case that's not your thing.

My story has been accepted, and is scheduled for posting on Friday, during the contest's debut. Eat my dust, slackers! Um, ahh, I'm looking forward to seeing fine works there by the rest of you! Please accept my support!

Vidi, Vici, Veni.
Apparently, Caesar's quote was "veni, vidi, vici" - "I came; I saw; I conquered."

Or, perhaps, you should use "veni, vidi, vincam" to incorporate future tense?

I've submitted my story. It's citation will be "veni, veni, veni, plures veni." :)

Unfortunately, the only Latin I'm fluent in is Ig-pay Atin-Lay.

There's an explanation in the story. 😎
