The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2023 Contest Support Thread

My Maine story is doing well, which I'm happy about. It's based on a news story I saw about puffin researchers, and I did a lot of fun research for it. A commenter mentioned he was now investigating the group (Audubon Project Puffin) on his own, which tickles me. I hope he enrolls in the Adopt-A-Puffin program, which is indeed a real thing.

A small corner of my mind would love it if anyone on that actual research station, or its alumni, stumbled across my story and enjoyed it. I know that if I were involved with that kind of research, I'd be very amused that a minor smut writer on a prolific erotica site had used my humble station as a setting.
I haven't done it, but I actually know two different people who have. Although I don't know either of them 'well enough' to suggest they seek out the tale (hello, casual friend, would you like a porn recommendation today?), one of them strikes me as the type of person who would be horrified, haha. Not so sure about the other one.
But I personally think it adds a neat dimension to mention the project, and in general ornithologists are a randy lot

I saw the news report, where they showed all the tent sites, and my very first thought was, "I wonder how often they masturbate..."

My catalog includes the perfect woman for a tale set there. I'm happy it seems to be doing well.

I didn't see any rules against this, but I just want to be sure.

For the Summer Lovin' Contest, are we allowed to do a bit of fantasy? As long as we still stick to the other rules like keeping it with a summer theme?

Well, unless what you're writing is autobiographical, it's all fantasy. 😎

Seriously, summer under the two suns of a planet like Tatooine would be fine.

As a side note, I believe that entering this competition has been a big boost to my readership numbers. After three days, my entry has almost half as many clicks as my first story, which has already been up for three months. So this competition has been great for exposure.

Usefully, people who enjoyed my writing style seem to be clicking through to my other stories… and voting with far higher frequency.

Plus I’ve gained more followers – a whopping 31 of them now! :)

...I really am honored and love all my readers (except for the Unobomber).

Contest entries certainly do help you expand your audience. I was chugging along after my first series and a few one-offs, but the first two contests I entered made a huge jump in followers.

LOL

I should have been more specific.

I meant, are we allowed to write about a mermaid for the Summer Lovin' 2023 contest?

Probably best to avoid merpeople, actually. They've been really agitated about perceived ethnic slurs lately, ever since that Disney live action remake. They were infuriated that Ariel was being portrayed as half halibut, when she's traditionally been depicted as half herring. The things people will argue about on the internet!
(Seriously, no one will care unless you portray your mermaid as underage or having sex with an actual fish... which would basically mean ejecting some eggs for him to spray afterwards, I guess.)

"or having sex with an actual fish."

This site doesn't allow beastiality in stories?
But fantasy creatures or aliens or monsters that are intelligent enough to be able to have consensual sex are allowed. So, mermaid on Klingon is totally legit, if a bit bonkers.

There are ways.

I had two dogs doing it one time, and it was fine. Because the narrator was one of the dogs, and he was sentient. That was a Hlloween story, in which one of his dog-buddies became a werewolf and fucked a human woman.

So go for it. Fuck a mermaid. I bet it'll be a good tail.

I've had dogs or horses going in parallel with people from time to time and the story has passed into the file without challenge.

Welcome to:
The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2023 Contest Support Thread

A weekend at the beach, a campsite in the forest, a hike along the Appalachian Trail, cheap seats at the ball game, a bucket of beer and a back yard full of friends, these are all signs of summer and I'm sure you have more. While our friends in Oz are scraping frost off the windshield and thawing out the drop bears, up north we're tossing hotdogs on the grill. Either way nothing say summer like a hot keyboard and an overworked imagination!

Let's go!

Summer Lovin' (summertime)
themes: warm weather, summer activities, bikinis, etc.
Starts: August 18
Closes: September 8

winners announced: September 15

Please ensure you have
"SUMMER LOVIN 2023" in the Notes to Admin field.

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the 2022 Summer Lovin' Contest. Bring out the squirt guns, the inflatable mattresses, and the sunscreen, and open yourself to some sizzling summer Fun Times!

Just remember, it has to be summer related - not necessarily beach related.

As Ogg always tells us, there is an advantage to entering stories in one of Literotica's themed contests. Apart from the possibility of winning, your story gets far more exposure and attention than it would typically receive.

Wait for Laurel's notice of the start of the contest as a sticky at the top of the Authors' Hangout before submitting and follow the instructions in that thread.

Good luck and have fun!
Hey, I submitted a story for the Summer Lovin 2023 contest early on Sunday morning, and it's still pending. I'd love to get it published! I got the note to admins wrong initially, but I fixed it a day or two ago. Could someone please give it a look?

If you "fixed it a day or two ago," it would have gone to the back of the queue as of then. But as long as your note to admin says what Laurel wants it to say, she should get it up on time.

Is it still in pending? A few summer contest stories were posted today, so filing of those should be up to date (Laurel sometimes holds posting off for a few days to have more than one to post). If yours is still in pending, she's probably not aware, for some reason, that it's a contest story. You could send her a note to check the posting and contest status. I've had stories drop off the contest list before but she's been quick to fix that.

I just turned in my "Summer Lovin' 2023" contest. I'm just waiting on the pending. I'm glad I was able to write one on time. My first contest entry for on Literotica. I don't think I'll win, but I really want to be qualified for it. (It takes 25 votes to qualify).

BTW, there is a small error on the notes of the contest. It says "2022" instead of "2023" near the top/beginning of the rules and statements of the contest.

Good luck to anyone who entered.

My #2 took its sweet time wrapping up, I've never had a story demand so many changes before! 42.7K words and now I'm just waiting on Manu's approval bot for a post date.

Huh. Did a mini-sweep just go through? My scores took a jump, I think.
