The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2023 Contest Support Thread

Ah, hell. Two days to go? Where did the time go?

I'll just keep working away and hopefully get it done over the weekend. I've chopped one story short for another comp to meet a deadline, and I'm not going to do that again. Readers rightfully hauled me over the coals for the ending.

Someone said that this is the easiest contest to find an idea to nurture and enter, and I have to agree. I don't usually manage an entry in contests because I don't have inspiration for something when needed, nor the time to produce it if I do have an idea. This time, I saw the reminder article and in an hour had a thought. 18.5K words and nine days later, Car Wash is approved and lurking in the queue for the 18th.

Hope everybody likes it... It's my usual fluff. And I look forward to reading a bunch of the others. I also always like the entries in this one.

Yep. Here we go. I think this gets the biggest response of all of the regular contests (along with Winter holidays, I guess).

Plugging away. I hope to get it done by a week before the deadline, but probably not before then.

I feel your pain, Simon. My characters keep wanting to do fun stuff, and I don't have the heart to make them stop.

#1 finished up just the way I wanted but #2 is fighting back, I'm trying to purge the lame out of it

Just sent my submission in. Hopefully it will get approved, and will be appreciated by readers.

Name is "My Sweet Melody" - Give it a try if you'd like!

EDIT: It's published now - Here's the link: CLICK ME!

I entered one called Stardust. Not expecting people to know quite what to do with it. Accidental self-hypnosis, bullying, some humiliation, petplay, and first-time lesbian romance. I put it in MC, but wouldn't be surprised if it gets reassigned. But I had fun writing something different, so I consider it a win regardless.

Mine is published 😊.

It’s a silly little confection, and maybe best seen as mostly a string of Jersey-centric jokes with soem sex scenes in between. I like it though.

I got my act together and mine posted this morning. I have another summer story that’s in progress, but probably won’t be ready this go around.

Haha, oh boy. The story mentioned above got pushed to Lesbian category. I hope the people who frequent that board are relatively kink-friendly!

I hope I can write on time. It sounded easy when I read it and I instantly got a picture in my head for the theme. A beach picture popped in my head immediately. But as I was trying to write it, it was hard to get it started. Took me all day to come up with something to start the first line.

I only have 2 stories up, so I thought this might be the exact motivation I need to write another story.

Well, it's not the longest story I've done but it is a long read. Oh, well the story setting and subject pretty much demanded a novella length. Hopefully it will be enjoyed.

My Maine story is doing well, which I'm happy about. It's based on a news story I saw about puffin researchers, and I did a lot of fun research for it. A commenter mentioned he was now investigating the group (Audubon Project Puffin) on his own, which tickles me. I hope he enrolls in the Adopt-A-Puffin program, which is indeed a real thing.

A small corner of my mind would love it if anyone on that actual research station, or its alumni, stumbled across my story and enjoyed it. I know that if I were involved with that kind of research, I'd be very amused that a minor smut writer on a prolific erotica site had used my humble station as a setting.
