The Peace of Art

De Nachtwacht by Rembrandt

A couple of weeks ago I watch an "essayistic" documentary by Peter Greenaway, Rembrandt's J'Accuse: Conspiracy & Murder in the Nightwatch. Fascinating and intriguing to say the least.

Sometimes I could just get lost in Van Gogh - literally

A talented, tortured artist with a unique, surreal view of form and colour, yet sadly unable to sell a painting. It reminds me of Turner a century before. Amazing, surreal scenes with a truly inspired use of colour, so prized today, yet I believe he also found few buyers. Ahead or their times? Undoubtedly, but creativity is not to be diluted to appeal to the majority.

Memories

The art of appeal may involve a good meal,
Or dancing around on the grasses;
Provided it suits the dresses and boots,
Of those sitting round on their asses;
Or dressed in white robes that cover the globes,
That some gentlemen think need hard spanking
But, come the fall, who will ever recall
The spanks on which models were banking?

Meli, you've slyly melded the 'peace of art' with the spanking thread! How creative!🧐😎

Let's please keep this thread for art. There are other threads for your poetry and spankings. Thanks!

There again might be fun to share this painting of the academy for instruction in the disciplines, just to show that the art of painting does not stand removed from life or other arts as some might advocate or believe:

Art has always stood because it is a depiction of past lives and beliefs.

I loved that era where words, notes and letters were exchanged often on the sly or at night between lovers.

They could never be
shared on indisciplined nights
where elements rule.
