For the Love of Stephen King

I’m re-reading all of Stephen Kings books that I read as a teenager … so it’s mostly his oldest stuff … cuz some i just don’t remember… currently on Firestarter
Loved Firestarter!
I keep picking the books up... and then putting them down. One day I'll get my concentration working again.
If you haven't yet you might enjoy Salems Lot too for non spoilery reasons

Yeah Salem’s Lot a good one indeed … I think I’m gonna have to go chronologically from the beginning or I’m gonna get confused lol

Good idea
I tried last year. Got half way through Carrie then put it down and that was that 🤦‍♀️
It’s hard I think with King because as enjoyable as his book are … they all of have a lot of world building and it can feel daunting to take on …

Sometimes I like a good quick, easy mystery or romcom just to give my overthinking brain a break.

Yeah I'm fairing ok with audio books as I can be doing other things too though I haven't tried a King one yet. Giving my full attention to something isn't easy because I'm always thinking about 20 things at once.

But yes short stories and smut help too as nice little distractions

I think that was the second book of his I read waaaayyyy back in my late teens/early 20's. Such a smart ending that I never saw coming.
Enjoy your quest!

Working through Kings books … book 3

This is The Rage by Richard Bachman … it’s a banned book about a school shooter.

Definitely not something I expected from King.

Just found this thread of King discussion..
One thing that's always stuck in my mind is how has no one ever adapted ' The long walk' ( Bachman ) into a mini series or film.

I haven’t read a Stephen King book in about 20 years, the last one I read was The Shining, gave me horrible nightmares while I was reading, once I finished they stopped.

I was going to read this one but after a friend was killed earlier this year in a work place shooting I can't go near it.

I'm still on Dark Tower #3. I am*almost* done though. Slow but steady, and I am really loving this one.

Yeah it’s tough for sure…. I’m sorry about your friend. ❤️

Ya #3 really sold me on the series … 2 was good but 3? Oh man… and 4!!! Oh 4 is such a treat. I would recommend reading 4.5 too … it’s not very long and not really a part of the story but it’s a good read.

HI all.

So I'm currently reading Hearts in Atlantis (1999) and on page 225 King's character Ted references the Crimson King and a gunslinger who has "reached the borderland of End World."
He also writes: "Until the Beams break, the Dark Tower stands --"

It caught me off guard that he references the Dark Tower series. I know he's done that quite a few times in other works, but this seems so random. Still trying to see how it ties into this story.

Happy reading!!

So many King books that haven't translated well, although there is a remake of 'The Running Man' coming soon, directed by Edgar Wright and apparently closer to the original book ( it could hardly be further from the source than the 80s Arnold S film )

Just in general … but the most recent Firestarter is a good example.
How do you feel about The Shining? The Kubrick film is not like the book.. there is so much missing from it in the film... But I think it's still a great movie. I had seen the film before reading the book a d was surprised as I read how much was not in the movie.

Yeah I like the film cuz I think it still embodies the overall creepiness of the book but there is so much in that book that is missing from the movie… but it would have to be such a long movie to include it all lol

I also saw the movie first … and it’s just genuinely ominous and well made so I think it gets a pass… from me anyway. Lol

Have you ever seen the tv version 1997? In my opinion it adds more from the book but lacks the creepiness.
