The Red Light Lounge

Ms. Diana Krall at her sexiest. I could put this song on repeat and let it go for hours. The bass in this arrangement should be illegal.

Peel Me A Grape

This.

and this.

for your sexy jukebox, which I always imagine covered in red velvet upholstery, for some reason. Not only does that latter rather send me, but there's a nice vibe of memory around it. Dig: Lights out, dancing, music up, overtaken, Alone, Finally. Finally alone.

It was a lovely moment.

I love the idea of red velvet. You can help me with the decor. I'm thinking canopy beds, draped in sari, instead of lounge chairs/love seats. Maybe Japanese fans on the walls of the DJ booth, when MC Geisha Grrrl spins on Wednesday nights. You available?

So far, I've got a pimped out 70's/dual Asian theme going. I know......pick one already, right?

*pokes head slightly into Lounge door, looks both ways, sees coast is clear*

*tiptoes through toward the back room, dragging Someone, who is looking bewildered but pleased, by the hand*

Drops This and This on the nearest chaise lounge.

Leaves a note, tied into a little scroll with a cherry blossom:

If anyone asks, I'm not here. Here's a little start on decor, if you like it. MC Geisha Grrrl would LOVE to spin on Wednesdays. And I love Japanese fans.

Here's a little something for the ladies' room...

The Red Light is ON and MC Geisha Grrrl iz in the house. And for this one I'm bringin' some street to the lounge.

I'ma get everyone onto the dance floor tonight, I hope. Get y'all bumpin' and overtaken by some groove. Even the white guys. Give it a try; the girls will help you. Or you can just take a wide stance and let the chicks use you for a stripper pole...

Some T.I. A nice anthem for today. I'm thinkin' you can't help but move your hips and maybe wave a fist in the air to this joint.

This video is mind-blowing. Watch it, while you groove.

I like Fatboy Slim muchly. His videos are actual movies with a story. Here's one that cracked me up. And it's bumpin' music.

Anybody not dancing yet? I see one or two of you. Be brave, my children. It's dark on the dance floor, and no one's watching or critiquing you. Just move; just let go.

Well then, I'll try this. For the white guys. Kid Creole. Among other things, the man can seriously dress himself.

And before I let you go back to your tables, try this one for a cool down. Find a partner, and put your hips up close, and maybe see if you can get one thigh between hers, so she can ride...

While you're heading back to the tables, or to the back room or the canopy beds (sari - a most excellent idea, by the way, sassy) here's a nice ambient piece that won't distract too much from the conversation. Or whatever you intend to do...

*grabs a wrist. Maybe two. Heads for an isolated corner.*

I approve. The decor and tunage are lovely. I can't decide on one or the other, so I think I'll use both the Indian and Japanes themes.....maybe have the lounge divided into two rooms? And the ladies room......um, YES.

Christopher Walken is oddly entertaining in that video

Ooooo......man stripper poles. Where is that Tzara?
Killer set. I'm still dancing. A hard act to follow, so I'll just leave a little something on the turntable for now

Coitus Stimulus

I found a nice design to start with for the bar. Red velvet, even.

My apologies; I was busy being horribly annoyed Wednesday night by the family holiday visit. So belatedly, here is this week's party, which (gee, I love teh interwebz) can be attended at your own convenience.

I'm calling this one Music for Grrrrlz. Grrrl energy is very powerful.

For this first one, I'm dimming the lights but popping on some nice flashy-flashy stuff. I can see all the grrlz out on the little dance floor together, having a moment, singing along like it's an anthem...

Mr. Vegas

Raise your fists, my babies, and sing.

I think this, speaking of anthems, may be the greatest grrrl anthem of all time. Writing to Santa made me think of it.

Another hungry grrrl song from Kate Bush.

Dark grrrl secret: kittens are cute but basically, they're mean.

Bringin' some superfrilly grrrl music in now. Tom Tom Club. It's Talking Heads without the penis. You can do all your cutest moves to this one.

I had to put this Tom Tom Club in too. It's my favorite, and kinda obscure. Call it a dedication.

But we do, we do, we do love the boys. Bjork agrees.

So they need to come and slow dance with us now, to this.

I'll turn the lights very, very low for that last one.

...and draw the curtain. May you each have, among other things, a mellow and sexy moment in your holidays.

I am lost.
All is lost.
I'm stupid with it. Overwhelmed. Taken. Hysterical. Ridiculous.

I'm once again late with the Wednesday night set, but hey, conventionally we'd do re-runs on New Year's Eve anyway. I was busy, and stuff.

First thought, best thought. But there's more. Later.

Friday I'm in love.

augh.

Some Bud Powell jazz to welcome Ms. Sassy back to the forum after too long of an absence:

Anthropology

Un Poco Loco

I Should Care

I always thought Bud was so underrated. Most people compare him somewhat unfavorably to Monk cause they prefer Monk's stripped-down style. But Bud's boppy rhythms and crashing chords are equally wonderful to me.

I try and I try but to me jazz sounds as if it is trying to go somewhere but never making it and it's as frustrating as a lost orgasm

S'ok dear Annie. Different strokes, huh? I didn't like jazz when I was young. In fact I mostly listened to classical and opera because that's what my dad liked and played every day. On an old hi-fi (that's dating myself lol). And in early college I dated a guy who loved it and he'd put the radio on a jazz station and I'd change it. And then something just clicked in me. I heard Night in Tunesia, I believe that was it, and I was like "Oooh I want more." What you see as going nowhere is improvisation that I love. To me, listening to jazz is a lot like writing poetry. I usually listen to it when I write because that sense in the music of twisting and turning and going anywhere feels liberating to me. It inspires me.

Country music is another story. Lots of people love it and some stuff I do like, but most of it makes me want to run shrieking from the room. :D
