The Red Light Lounge

And Buffalo Springfield; I had the biggest crush on Stephen Stills for years. And Country Joe McDonald. And Jesse Colin Young. He used to play at this little hippie coffeehouse in Bucks County, PA that I used to go to all the time, but he was before my time there.

Hey, I remember Jesse Colin Young. He used to play a place outside Philly--the Main Point, a very slick coffee house in Bryn Mawr, near Bryn Mawr College and Villanova University. I saw him there. Also John Denver BEFORE he became uncool. He played with a backup band called Fat City, who became the Starland Vocal Band (sorry, folks, didn't mean to pollute the airwaves--knew 30 seconds was all anyone could stand), and a young pair of New Yorkers named Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel BEFORE Sounds of Silence--maybe 1966?

In order: Yes. Probably. Yes. Unfortunately, yes.

That song was a staple of the garage band I was in, particularly because our drummer was easily the best musician in the band and would play that interminable drum solo for what seemed like forty minutes.

Although that last "yes" needs an asterisk by it, as repeated run-throughs of that song certainly left me in an altered state of consciousness.

I vote for Gracie too.

My worst confession ever: the first band I ever played in was a cover band of the California band The Association.

Do I have to turn in my Grateful Dead membership card now?

One of the first LPs (the youngsters won't know what I am talking about here) I bought was And Then... Along Comes The Association, from 1966. I still remember the cover, as it was... green. I think there were some guys on it, but it was mostly green.

I was thirteen. Not that that is an excuse, but pop radio wasn't playing 'zactly Lester Young at the time, more's the pity.

No, Chef. You get to keep your card. Music thingies, especially at youngish ages, are at best quirky, often bad, choices.

I mean, this is way hugely influential in my life. It would be difficult for me to mark something that was more influential, at any time. Still is, actually.

But embarrassing? Just watch the clip, bud.

We all grow up, eventually.

Mostly.

Yup, I know the Main Point. Used to go there and smaller places in Philly: The Second Fret and The Trauma (where I saw Tim Buckley and The Velvet Underground). It was a great place to see bands, really small. I didn't know Simon and Garfunkel played the Main Point--is that when they were still Tom and Jerry? Jesse Colin Young played at a tiny place called The Cellar, which became my teenaged hangout, but I never saw him there. That was before he started The Youngbloods.

Also used to go to a place in New Hope called The Bird's Nest, which was right next to the Bucks County Playhouse. I wrote a poem about it here a long time ago, the first poem of mine in this thread. And I love that poem and that thread because it's the poem that ee read and thought "who is she?" And then we met. :)

Ahhhh...memories...

I'm putting this set in here too, cause this is really where it belongs.

I brought a little music set for Sassy's Lounge. I'm calling it, "I'd rather be fucking. Possibly to this.”

Bowie

Mark Morrison

Massive Attack

And here's a lovely little essay to go with it. I stole this from the BDSM board.

Just Fucking Fuck Me Already

The grrrls have been passing it around here for a day or two.

Have I mentioned I love this thread? Very inspiring.

Missed you girl. No MIA please.......do you know how that affects ME? :p
Us Pisces....always thinking 'bout ourselves.

OMG! Bij, we might very well be the only two people on the planet, or at least at Lit, who even remember Mark Morrison's name. Much less his song. Shout outs to One Hit Wonders everywhere. Thanks for the flashback. :D

Bowie has the same fuckability in his music as Billy Idol. At least to me. I find neither one physically attracive, but they just oooooze sex. I'm sure that lip has something to do with it. Just makes you wanna do things....

If I go missing from this place, you can be assured it's very serious, cause I love it here.

It's still very serious, but I am slightly saner than I was.

We differ slightly on bowie. I would hit that in a heartbeat. Especially if Grace Jones were involved as well.

Dibs for sloppy seconds on Grace!!!

If you can't fuck to Nina Simone singing "Do I Move You", Go get your ass buried, damn it - you're dead!
Um....yeah.
That's some down-home-gritty-blues-bend-me-over-the-juke-box type of sexy.
It would make a hot spoken word piece too. It's not just the music that carries it. It's really well written.

For you, SB, some of my favorite smoky Nina songs. A little mellow compared to Move You, but still steamy, in a different way.

Feelin' Good

I Put A Spell On You

I Want A Little Sugar...

Bij, I know you're a fan too. So just for you...

Ne Me Quitte Pas

and go ahead...play me :)

I can easily see her sending you both to triage for traction.

We're not scared of her! The Bijinator and the Flying Love Monkey will have her begging for mercy! HA!
(Plus if I gotta - I'll tell Amy = she even scare's personal injury attorneys!)

especially when she looks at them with those big, beautiful brown eyes and crinkles that cute, sexy little up-turned nose and those lips... oh, God, those lips... those luscious, red, kissable lips... GOTTA GO! BYE!

Me too...oh, wait...I was thinking of Pat Benetar

Oooooooooooooooooooooo...
I used to drive miles and miles to see her play in South Jersey honky-tonks.
This could keep me up nights...

Amy just said, "she would swin an ocean of flaming melted tar just to eat the corn our of Pat Benatar's shit." That's pretty serious. Normally she would just eat the corn. (must be the drinks I'm feeding her - she is MOY fucked up!)

After a great deal of experimentation, personal sacrifice and determined effort, we have determined that THIS is the best sound driven vibrator song, by far! But in the interest of scientific accuracy, I am going to continue my investigations. No need to thank me. I get my thanks from a job well done!
