The Retaking of Aine OOC

would you buy it in a storm night?

People change Jedi. Why should not countries to?

Hm...the Talarines going on a raid in the middle of a storm? Is there thunder and lightning?

Who said anything about not expecting a country to change? This is the United States of America we're talking about. The Consitution requires that no one person can be president for more than eight years. Every U.S. citizen is painfully aware that we have to choose a president every four years. That's the way it's been since the late 1700s.

I have no comment about the state of affairs in America. But other than that, I just hope things get better for you guys.

Anyway, Q -

Yes - I would imagine a night raid. Though why they're doing it is something to think about. Did they just take too long and wanted to get on with it, even though it's night? Or is because they wanted the cover of darkness? But are they smart enough to tactically plan that way?

And yes, stormy nights are great. Thunder and lightning even better. Partly, they are afraid of the "Wrath" of the sky. But the other part is animalistically excited about it. About the violence and threat of death etc.

So a raid, especially during a stormy night, is a good idea. And probably visually appealing if you write it right.

Hmm... matings probably happen during stormy nights.

Don´t know about the mating detail... I simply came upon the stormy night because I was experiencing with writing style and the scene simply spouted from my mind.

I have a talarine raid, during the darkest part of the night, with a nice thunder storm with pouring rain, howling wolves in the surrounding forest (I took great care with the detail, Jedi; it´s a man (or insert here another race of your liking, please) made forest, with trees spread apart from each other, mainly young oaks and pines) and a big angry athalan wielding an axe and frightening the people even more then the talarines after them.

The wolves are just a part of the local fauna, along with rabbits, foxes and the liking. Bees are included too, as well has their hives; no bears, though - could not find a hole in the web to fit them.

But I had to ask. I like to keep things real; if the raid idea did not sound believable, it would be dropped. Why it happened? Well, the first thing it came to my mind was just coincidence. A small - about 15 or 20 talarines - were taking a stroll in the night; perhaps low rank warriors or a scout group, and just found the little village. A small farming community. I can do the rest of the math.:D

PS: I also came up with the storm night, because I needed a background that would make Nayil look primal. The talarines have been pictured has totally brutal and barbaric; athalans are an educated and advanced civilization, but they still nurture a very dark and primitive side, specially in their war and combat tactics. You are going to see an athalan wreck havoc in hand to hand combat, using whatever he finds to inflict damage. And remember: an empty handed athalan is very much away from being defenseless.

Well, with thunder and lightning in the equation you have to take something else into consideration: superstition. It could be that the Talarines have never seen lightning nor heard thunder, and when they finally do, it could potentially scare the hell out of them. A real world example of this is the Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan; they had never experienced a full-fledged thunder storm until they invaded eastern Russia, and when they did experience a thunder storm, they thought it was the gods expressing their displeasure at the Mongol's actions, and as such they were scared witless.

The reason why I bring this up is because it seems to me that the Talarines are a rather superstitious lot, and not all that bright to begin with. So, in all likelihood, a thunder storm would scare them half to death.

But by all means, don't be dissauded from using the thunder storm. It'll add to the horror the Talarines are about to experience.

Well, has my girlfriend pointed out this weekend, the hard part is done now I just have to make the framing look good. Its mostly detail and style I have to add to the work.

My text editor already has a spelling and grammar checker that works as I write , Jedi.

Yes, but those things can only do so much. They tend to miss little nuances in the English language can potentially change the meaning of an entire sentence. That's why it helps to have someone else look over it to make sure. And then there are homonyms, like to, too, two and there, their, and they're. A lot of people get those mixed up and those computer spell-checkers don't always catch it.

Qyron, if you're still lurking around, I must be off, so I bid you a good night and good luck on finishing your post.

Make sure you don't go too overboard with the 'forest'. You should know about the Talarine's innate fear of forests by now. Wide bush land etc is fine. The purpose of that forest and the way it was 'built' will need to be explored.

The forest is an open ground, the kind its used on logging grounds, with wide spaces between trees, to avoid felled ones from hitting the still growing ones.

You know, I am wondering about the level of enthusiasm for this thread. I mean, I can do all sort of acrobatic writing - but seriously, is anyboy going to actually either join or post?

I would love to post, there's just the little problem of someone else, a particular user (not going to name anyone specifically), needing to post ahead of me.

*shrug* well... if I don't get any action soon, then I'm sorry but I might just have to abandon this storyline.

Qyron wouldn't be happy with that, especially with all the work he's been putting into his post.

Good point.

Speaking of not letting the thread die, have you been in touch with the MIA person?

I´m trying my best to post on Friday evening. But if the thread dies, well... s*** happens.

I had the decency to get my PC out of everybody way because my typical writing style.

If nobody objects, I´ll post the first half of my post now and the rest tonight or tomorrow evening, worst case scenario.

Somebody manifest, please.

Go right ahead, Qyron. How you put up your grand post is up to you, not us.
