The Trade War

6.2% growth last quarter. The US would kill for growth like that.

When they claimed 6.7% a few years ago the World bank pegged it at 1.1%. Don't believe everything you read or hear. They are in big trouble, Sean.

Sean is a good comrade, if the CCP says so, then it is.

Those moves predate the the trade war with China and are primarily in the textile/apparel industry. As China's economy improved so have the wages in that industry escalated to the point where other SE Asian nations are more attractive as a manufacturing base.

There is no doubt that the tariff war is impactful on both economies. But that is a matter of degree's. China is considerably more dependent on trade with the US than the US is on China. The standout in this is agriculture. The products that China exports to the US fall heavily into the discretionary purchase category whereas the grains (food) we export to China is much less so.

All of the above goes to point out the risk China is running in this battle. Other nations will be more than happy to try to gear up to fill the void which will undoubtedly begin to cut into China's market share. The longer this goes on, the higher the risk. Obviously the counter-point can be made that the US faces the same risk. This is true but only to a limited extent. You can't put up a plant and start manufacturing Soy beans. That requires arable land and a transportation infrastructure. The geography of the central US is unique among nations in that respect.

So far China has managed to stave off the worst of the impact by devaluing its currency. But that is, and has been, one of the sticking points in the negotiations, namely China's currency manipulation. They can only go so far with that policy though. At some point the Xi/Li regime will have to come to the table. The difficulty there is in finding a path that will allow them to claim some sort of victory (save face) and that will be a difficult path considering the borderline insane preferential treatment China has enjoyed up to this point in time.

The Chinese are completely at the mercy of the United States. If they get belligerent, Trump could have them prostrated before him with a simple executive order denying them access to the American financial system. Trump is holding the trump cards.;)

Sean, like Butters, seems to start with an anti-American mindset when analyzing any Issue which involves the United States and somebody else. We are the one to oppose and distrust and always giving the World's historic mass killers and totalitarians the benefit of the doubt.;)

Do you ever read what you write? Why would anyone take you serious. Your rhetoric is so without substance its funny and I hope I'm the only individual that will give you a reply to your stupid statement because you don't deserve anything more than that.

It's amazing they seem to have zero concept of what the USA is, how it came to be or the people who live in it.

They seem to think Marx himself wrote the super collectivist focused US Constitution and we're all just terrible people for not fully buying into the delusion.

Ummm....no, it's the exact opposite, that's why you're so upset with him comrade.

They're also ungrateful as fuck. The money and manpower we've poured into their country to save their asses time and time again isn't trivial. Even today, in the Strait of Hormuz we're STILL protecting their asses.

Yet, we're the "bad guys".

The entire mindset is beyond description.

Communists have to stick together.

I said it before and I'll say it again, we need to stop doing that.

Let them deal....spend the money on the US.

Trump wants to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by election day

He should do it NEXT WEEK

Fuck them, let em kill each other

I wonder if they ever really take the time to evaluate what america would look like if they got everything they say they want. Free healthcare for all, eliminate tuition loans, open corders, eliminate DHS and ICE, tax the rich 90%, do away with fossil fuel, do away with the electoral college, take away our guns, cut military spending, tax corporations out of existence and finally, impeach Trump because they don't like him. Might as well live in China!

Totalitarian communism on a global scale is the "progressive" goal.

Totalitarian communism on a global scale is the "progressive" goal.

99% of the progressives haven't a clue as to the underlying philosophy of the crap they spout. They are indoctrinated, yes indoctrinated, with loathing of the existing order. they eagerly point out all of it's flaws, real or imagined, and work themselves up into a foaming at the mouth fury. Yet they have no workable plans as to what they would put in place as a replacement or a path to get there.

The "progressive" movement has two salient features that are right out of "The Communist Manifesto" and "Das Kapital." The first is tribalism. While Marx and Engels restricted themselves to the bourgeoisie and the proletariat the latter day French Marxists (progressives) have expanded the proletariat to even finer granulation by separating out the groups by gender, race, sexual orientation(s), and even religion. The goal is to convince disparate groups that they are oppressed. They use the group identification motif to cloak what they're doing. The second feature is indeed right out of Marx, "equality of outcome." They can't figure out how to raise up these tribes they've created so they instead turn to the destruction of that which they've identified as the enemy. Currently that enemy is white, Christian, males. (Makes you wonder how in the hell Biden and Bernie are still hanging in.)

An interesting little window on how this all plays out is contained in Kurt Vonnegut's "Player Piano." And if you want to dig deep into how it actually DID play out read Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago."

So you don’t think Trump gives the benefit of the doubt to Kim, Putin, and MBS? Do you follow current events between tokes and your endless posting?

And if you want to know why all that is bullshit, read The Revolution Betrayed by Leon Trotsky.

So you don’t think Trump gives the benefit of the doubt to Kim, Putin, and MBS?

no

he has sanctioned Kim and Russia MOAR then anyone else and what the hell has MBS done?

and your comment is pathetic, it was YOUR side that loved the Soviet Union vs the US and you love Cuba, Venezuala etc etc

America has a lot of experience when it comes to taking over islands in the Pacific. If China was going to take Taiwan by force, they’d have done it by now. The fear of America intervening on Taiwan’s behalf keeps them on the mainland, in my opinion.

A lot of experience taking over Pacific islands - Yeah I'm sure the marines who took Tarawa would have said it was a real cakewalk.

No....I think he gives them lip service in the name of diplomacy.

Of course I do, that's why I find all the Kim/Putin conspiracy folks so funny :D

Better yet what would the problem with that be? Kim and Putin are into the same kind of politics you are....they're good comrades bro!!! They want equity too.

And if you want to know why all that is bullshit, read The Revolution Betrayed by Leon Trotsky.

Yea that won't explain why any of that is bullshit.

Nope....they act like Kim is the bad guy, while they preach and advocate his brand of politics.

An interesting little window on how this all plays out is contained in Kurt Vonnegut's "Player Piano." And if you want to dig deep into how it actually DID play out read Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago."

Haven't read either.

History tells me though this plays out with a civil conflict.

Trotsky huh? *chuckle* An excellent example of how critics are treated in "progressive" regimes.

This is a staggeringly naive statement, unfortunately it is the sort of nonsense his close advisors will be giving Trump. The Chinese devaluation in the last 24 hours has shown that they have totally lost trust in Trump's USA and are handing out a dose of world wide deflation.

It's one thing to beat up a smallish economy like Iran but do the same with China risks an international recession. As of this moment there is no agreement on intellectual property, drugs, currency or Tarriffs. A complete clusterfuck - sure the existing situation had to be changed but Trump's and Xi's respective bullying and bragging ain't gonna fix anything.

There are no winners in these sorts of disputes, everyone has to give some ground eventually and blaming is pointless. But don't expect any early resolution; the monumental egos involved will require more useless posturing and unnecessary financial collateral damage.

It will take time , lots of time.

Now that China has been labeled a currency manipulator, we’ll see where things go from here. Labeling them one doesn’t mean much, though. I suspected it was bound to happen sooner or later.

I hope it doesn’t happen, but unless trade war is resolved the next phase may be a move towards a real war with China.
