First yes I did misspell a word. Not going to point out any ones error in that regard. Chinaman, Irishman, and Scotsman have ALL been used as a derogatory term right in the us and in other countries. Which lit dose not distinguish between. You used the term right here. Where? At the same time that all of those ( )man terms were used to degrade they were also used by tho use country men to identify themselves. Americans first started using the term chinamen before railroads in the US. So before a time in our not so proud history when Americans treated the Chinese like subhumans. Now yes if CG said chink I would crawl all over him about it. But he used chinaman to identify a man from china in china. I'm not seeing an issue there. If he said japp to describe a man for china I would have an issue. China between world war one and two let's look at that a large population of Brits and Americans in that country who worked with Chinese and used the term daily with out degradation. As for the word gay pick up a dictionary and you will find an excepted definition that dose not mean homosexual. But your saying that because your in america where most people assume gay to be derogatory no one on lit may use the term. Because you say? If someone called me a kike because of my blood line yes I would be up set the word was invented to be derogatory. If they asked if I was German because I have German blood, ID say no I'm American. Big difference. If someone called me a Scotsman, again I would correct them. Not immediately take offense because it was once used to slander based on birthplace. As to your question about a Georgia plantation and using the n- word. Which n-word Niger or negro again context. Negro was a word made up by black men at the time as a mark of pride. Niger being used would pass me off because it was invented just to be derogatory. As for my point about little bighorn it is still taught in public schools that all of the native Americans who fought were young braves. So because it says so in a book, despite proof to the contrary it must be so? Scotsman. Saying you can't use it to describe some of my ancestors because it was used for degradation, is absurd. It is because you say so, does not make it so. It is because it was, dose not make it so either.
