The vast majority of US military personnel never fire a shot in combat. That differs from Space Marines in Heinlein's STARSHIP TROOPERS where EVERYBODY fights, clerks too. It's more like the Roman legions, where most troops spent their decades building, not fighting.

I'm a Vietnam-era US Army volunteer. Nobody shot at me. I'm quite happy.

Meanwhile, rights and liberties may be SIEZED by force, but are PROTECTED by a trusted legal system. Rome's law lasted for centuries because citizens and subjects trusted their system. Gups' trashing of the US legal system is suicidal nationally but serves the purposes of foreign enemies. Beware.

Yes. We have won conflicts. The military always steps up and performs its duties. It's the political class that waves the white flag because of the mob at home. (This is why the 17th and 19th should be repealed.) I do not get why it is so anathema to so many of you that the military, its pride, its accomplishment and its sacrifices cannot be celebrated by the Progressive leaning among us. To me, it's a no-brainer and I don't even care if there is a parade, or not, but the visceral negative reaction to the idea is what confounds me.
