The economy is fairly fragile at the moment and could break either way. If it slips into recession that could be the sole electoral determinant because all the so called policy debating points will have no relevance in the voters minds.

If there is not a recession the D's will have major problems. First they have to stop yakking about fringe issues and campaign locally on nuts and bolts domestic/economic/jobs/health services issues. Jobs and wages are more important to voters than guns and esoteric social 'freedoms.'

I was living in Potomac, Md (just outside DC) when Obama was elected. So everyone there voted for Obama, and then Hillary. Here... I think Attila the Hun got more write-ins than Obama.

Last election I was here in the country. Trump got 90% and will do the same next time. It's not even a debate. I grew up here, left for 30 years, then moved back. I can't remember a single Democrat ever elected to anything here.

Obama isn't really mentioned much here. Hillary is still da Debil. The absolute worst thing you can call someone is a Hillary supporter. Such leads to fist-a-cuffs.

But this region is almost 100% white. We have an Asian family that owns the Chinese buffet and a Hispanic family that owns the Mexican place, but you never see any of them out in town. No black people at all. It's racism through ignorance, not malice. People here get upset over illegal immigration, even though most have never even met a person "of color" ...I never did until I left and joined the Navy.
