All the Democrats had to do this election cycle was promise a return to the old normal under Obama and they would have a decent chance of winning.

Instead, they decided to leverage Trump madness into an opportunity for a total Bolshie revolution promising Pol Pot-style year zero resets on everything from definition of gender to Congressionally mandated weather. I have several theories about why crazy is the strategy for 2020, which I won't go into here..

It ain't gonna happen, because ironically, given the circumstances, most people haven't gone insane. Not on the right, in the middle nor even on the, at least, near left. Most people are still just normals. And normals always choose the less suicidal option.

The Democrat candidates have done the near impossible: They have made Trump the safe option in 2020.

Regarding the polls, the rural population, which was largely responsible for Trumps election, was not represented in the polls because they didn't respond to the polls. They hung up or otherwise didn't participate. Just remember the urban votes were counted first and the big blue cities especially so. Think east coast and upper east mid west. PA, OH, KY and then late, the left bank pacific states, CA, OR and WA. Then just as the dems were getting giddy with the glee of winning, BAM, here comes the rural vote. Game over and Rachel Maddow is literally bawling on set and Hillary throws such a fit that they had to usher off to seclusion.
