Not strident, nor rude. I've read your posts, James. :) You have a passion for things you believe in and the willingness to back those beliefs up with logic. That is never rude! :)

Now, it is LATE, so if I don't make sense? lol Well, expect it, okay? Here we go:

I had been considering this debate for a long time, weighing the pros and cons in my mind and heart. I pay attention every time a thread like this starts...and Zmey, you are right, of course. Research pays off. Funny...when I was pregnant with my son, I knew everything about birth inside and out, I knew exactly what calories were in what bite of food, and even had copies made of my medical charts so that I could read them myself! But circumcision? I never researched it. It was never mentioned to me by anyone until it was time to decide.

Being my first child, and being young and naive, I didn't pay as much attention as I should have, and I am sorry my son paid the price for that. :(

Although nothing substitutes for research, I think making pros and cons of circumcision a part of the 'what to expect' books and brochures, and making sure that doctors discuss it with their patients (according to guidelines, of course, that would eliminate the push for extra procedures for extra cash), would make the options much more clear.

:) I, for one, would like to hear more stories and personal opinons. I'm glad someone started yet another of these uncut/cut threads!

That's a big part of the problem.......it's so often thought of as "normal" or expected no one even thinks about it, especially if they're dealing with only traditional medicine. Doctors can be hidebound ideologues......they're taught as part of the med school orthodoxy that circumcision is "mecessary" and will often be offended if you say otherwise.
This got carried to an extreme with my ex gf's son. She went thru a birthing center with midwives for the birth of her son. His father was uncut, and she asked the midwives about it. They told her the FACTS and she wasn't going to have her son snipped. Immediately (like 10 minutes) after hit somewhat troubled delivery (complicated by her being barely 17 at the time), the Dr, who was appaled by her not wanting the baby circumcized, sold my ex's mom a line of bull about how bad it was & since her daughter was pretty much unconscious got the grandma to sign off on the procedure. It's one of my ex's biggest regreats & another sign of how much the medical system in the US needs reform

Sorry, I went off a bit there :D

That is the kind of story every young woman needs to be aware of before blindly trusting a physician or anyone else who touts one method or "ideal" over another.

I'm so sorry your ex had to go through that. :( To make the choice and regret it later is one thing. To not really make the choice at all? It might seem harsh to some, but to me that is simply a more 'sanctified' form of psychological rape.

I'll stop now, before I get off on a rant, too! lol
