I'd probably agree if the election were held today. But we've got five more months of Trump making an ass of himself, an unpopular war that's only going to become more so, and the ever-present possibility some red-state candidate will pull a "legitimate rape". As for Collins, she has beaten the odds before, but she is behind Platner in the polls right now.

Here in my home state of Texas: I am keeping my fingers crossed that four-term incumbent United States Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) pulls off a miraculous comeback tonight in the runoff.
 
Tuesday, 26 May 2026: C-SPAN special coverage of the Republican primary runoff for Texas-United States Senator, which will include concession and victory speeches.
 
I wonder if Cornyn will actually concede? It's out of character for Republicans these days.

100 percent agree with you on Grassley likely being carried out of the United States Senate in a flag-draped casket. However, if the Democrats somehow win back the Iowa Governorship in November, don't be shocked if the Republican supermajority General Assembly stripes the Democratic Governor's powers.
 
I won't be, but I'm also wondering if the Republicans will be able to hold their supermajority with so many farmers pissed off at Trump.

This isn't the first time the Republican-controlled General Assembly went after Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand because outgoing Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed legislation, which stripped half of the Democratic State Auditor's powers.
