Update on oggbashan's health

Thanks for the good wishes.

The fourth chemo has been done with a minimal hole in the arm. I didn't follow it with an English Breakfast but with a Chinese meal...

I've heard of Bigelow's "English Breakfast Tea," but is there a "Chinese Breakfast Tea," too? Or is it just...tea?

No. There are a large variety of Chinese teas but none specifically for breakfast. I had coffeee.

I am not looking forward to tomorrow morning. I have to have a minor growth removed from an ear - a simple operation under local anaesthetic - but I have to be at the hospital, ten miles away, at 8.30 am. I am usually just starting to eat my breakfast then...

Fingers crossed, my friend

I had the operation this morning among jokes about 'Big-Ears' and 'Even larger than Prince Charles' - but mine came first.

The circumference of my right ear has been reduced by about half an inch, not that anyone will really notice when it heals. It will still be large.

I was back home at twenty to eleven.

A problem? I can't attach my glasses to my bandaged right ear because of the bandages, and I can't wear a mask so they have given me a visor.

The last couple of times I had a procedure like that, they required me to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m.

I visited my oncologist yesterday morning for the result of my latest scan. Conclusion: The Chemo is working and the cancer is going away -again...

Today I went to my minor injuries unit to ask them to remove the dressing on my ear after Monday's operation. I can't see clearly enough to do it myself, and my other medical complaints mean I am clumsy, but it was removed professionally. I now have a healing wound that itches...

Clear so far ?
That's great news, Ogg.

Have you considered one of those things for scratch an inconvenient itch ?
(think 'back scratcher' but for the ear.)

I had a small cancerous spot and an enlarged lymph node. The spot had gone completely and the lymph node had shrunk to half its original size, but the scan was taken after the second chemo session of six. I have now had four and two more sessions to go.

Ear scratching? I daren't. I still have twenty-five stitches in that ear. If I scratch, I will open the wound.

Doctor's Letter

This morning I received a letter from my General Practioner, whom I rarely see because I am seeing so many hospital consultants.

Please would I ring to make a telephone appointment to discuss the consultant's letter.

Which letter? From which consultant? I have a fat file of consultant's letters - six so far in August. Apparently, it might be something to do with oncology but the receptionist wasn't sure. I will wait until the call on Thursday morning...

Sort of like some e-mail I receive wanting to reference a story of mine they've read but not giving a reference. Well, sure, but which one of them?

Doesn't your GP use his/her telephone ?
Best of luck !

I had the fifth (of six) chemo sessions this afternoon. There was an hour's delay while they asked a consultant oncologist. My ear wound (from an operation) is slightly infected and weeping so I am on antibiotics.

Consultant's opinion - better to go ahead. Danger from cancer is worse than the danger from ear...

The session lasted from 1 pm to 5.30 - boring!
