Update On Tonitits and Her Son

Such wonderful news to read after being gone over the weekend!! Continued prayers and thoughts sent from TN....

{{{{{{Toni and Daniel}}}}}}

Scary to think I could be in your position if my daughter hadn't had tonsils, adnoids and tube surgery at 16 months of age... she had apnea for over 6 months before we figured out what it was... didn't sleep solid nights for over a year til things were straightened out!! She'll be 15 next weekend!!

Get well soon, Daniel!!! :rose:

 Sorry I haven't been here to see what was going on. To Toni and Daniel You will be on my prayer list till I hear that Daniel is home. I know what it means to receive prayers and cards from people that you don't know. Believe me it meant a great deal in boosting up my morale when things didn't look to good.

GREAT NEWS!

Jenny and I got an email from toni! Daniel is walking on his own and will be
going home on or before July 27!!! His memory is still kind of foggy but
sounds like everything else is getting better! He still will have to go through
training for those with cognitive disorders!

Absolutely wonderful to hear!!!!

Continued thoughts and prayers til Daniel's full recovery!!

Here is an email update from Toni I got today.

Daniel is doing great. We had another care conference yesterday and they said that he is continuing to improve daily. He is still on target to get released from here on July 27. The lady also said that our insurance covers him going to cognitive rehab, but the only possible glitch is the one they primarily use, Pate Rehabilitation, usually only allows 14+, and he is 13. But they have not said no. So we will have to just wait and see. It will be a day patient. He would go for 5-6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Basically, just like school. They help them with the cognitive and get back into the "real" world. Making them as independent as possible. Hopefully, he will be able to get in and keep up or surpass where he was before and after this is all over he won't have anymore problems. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Tell everyone I said hi! Hope all is well with everyone! Hugs, Toni

from TONI

Hey everyone! We just got out of our care conference a short time ago. They said that Daneil had been accepted to Pate Rehabilitation but cannot get in there until next Tues. But since he has been accepted they are releasing him from here on Fri. We are supposed to tour it on Fri. so they are releasing him earlier than usual so he can tour it also. They will pick him up in the morning and then return him home that afternoon. He will be there from 9-3:30 M-f. It is going to be alot like school and is geared to getting him back in school as quickly as possible. Thanks for a the thoughts, prayers, etc.. during these past 3 months. We do not know how long he will be at PAte. But things are definitely looking alot brighter. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. He is so excited about going home. Keep us in your prayers and thoughts and again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Hugs,
Toni

Toni, I've been away from Lit for a few months and just now saw this thread. You and your son will be in my prayers.

hugs to you, sweetie. You've always been there for me during my down times, I wish I had been here for you.

Love ya, hon.

Hi everyone! Hope all is well with you all. I only have a minute, but wanted to give you an update. I never get on here anymore. But I want ya;ll to know that I think of my many friends always and I really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers on behalf of Daniel. He is now 13, June 15 was his birthday. He was in Children's Medical Center from Apr 22-Jun 15. He then went to Our Children's House at Baylor from 6-15-7-22. He then went to a cognitive rehab for 60 days. He missed the first six weeks of school. He is in basic English and Math and regular classes for the others with the ability to go to CMC for help in those. He is not doing very well in school. It is very overwhelming. He is continuing to have seizures and sleep apnea. They got him a different kind of machine for it but still having difficulty. The meds make him gain weight. His stamina is not good and we are in the process of trying to get him on half days. I have to go pick him up and take him to orthopedic doctor today. He fell back in Aug or Sept and still complaining with pain, so they did some x-rays and it looks like he has deterioration of the lower back. If that was you or me they would not think anything of it, but he is only 13! So she wants him to see the ortho and see what he thinks before we go forth anymore. The testing that they did on him prior to him starting to school were shocking even to me! They showed that the cognitive skills and his emotions, etc... which are the last to come back, were at the level of a 6-7 yr old. Other areas that have come back already are like 5-6 grade. He hates school and doesn't ever want to go. I know it must be very frustrating for him. It breaks my heart to see him going through all of this. He is such a sweet kid, but because of all that he has gone through and some kids, not most, tease, pick on him, call him names,etc...he has become aggressive and has got in trouble twice in the last week. For 7 years he has not ever been in this kind of trouble! The school believes that it is due to his frustrations, but that he has to know that there are consequences. They are having him stay in his classes until the halls clear and have someone take him to his next class. Also we are hoping to get the half days set up asap. His neurologist is just sooo amazed at him. Her nurse told me that she NEVER gets amazed, but Daniel amazed her. She loves him and will do anything she can to help us so hopefully this will get better soon! Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers and know that we do think of you often. Thanks to Spenser,Oman and AA for giving updates on his condition. Take care and have great holidays! Hugs,Toni

Toni, I was just thinking about you and your son this week and was going to look for this thread this weekend.

I'm sorry to hear thta Daniel is having such a difficult time right now. Sometimes we have to experience the worst before things will ever get better. Oftentimes progress comes in such minute measurements, but it is progress nonetheless. You two have been through hell and you certainly on the painfully long road back. (long distance hugs for both of you). :rose:
