Blame Game

For those of you who have never been in the military, anytime something goes wrong someone is going to be the scapegoat. In the case of the first collision, you have one man watching a radar screen which would have been tracking the freighter. He should have notified the officer in charge of C-I-C (combat information center). The C-I-C officer should have notified the officer in charge on the bridge. This would be the captain, exec or navigation officer. The helmsman would be looking out the front and watching the compass to maintain the given course. For the accident to happen, one of two things had to occur. One is both ships at one point were sailing parallel to each other and one of the ships changed course putting it on a collision course. Which ship changed course has not been released. The second scenario is that the second freighter was sailing perpendicular to the destroyer and failed to change course. It's apparent the freighter had time to change course as they hit the destroyer in the port aft(rear) quarter.

Personally being a Navy vet, I can see the possibility of one collision might being our fault but not two times in a matter of a few months. To me it appears to be sloppy Merchant seamanship.
