Valentine's Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Hey! I have votes and comments! Whee!

I have lots of votes and comments too, always do. Fun to read comment. Anyway I posted a new story yesterday. Didn't make it on this mornings posting, maybe later or tomorrow.

First story was in first-time 730 votes and 15600 reads comments 33

Second is posted in non-cosnsent/reluctant 430 votes 39290 read comments 22

Third is submitted in non-erotic not posted yet

Doesn't include feedbacks and vote avg.

Interested in seeing the number of votes and comments on each story.
Best of luck to all, even Super Ralph. It does take a lot to write so many stories.

Seeking advice

It is without animosity of any kind that I note that my entry into the Valentine's Day competition is still pending after having been submitted more than three days ago. My stories are important to me. It wasn't so long ago that I was basically illiterate, being unable to string a sentence together. To have written a story was impossible. I like to submit without getting them edited as this is the way I learn best. I therefore like to see my stories being given a fair go. I am concerned that it won't because it now has limited time in which to get the necesary votes to qualify. It is called Wisps and has been entered in the erotic poetry category. I know that it is difficult to run a competition and those who do deserve applause- they have mine. However, I wonder whether I should withdraw my entry for this year so that I can enter it next year and give it a fair go, I like my story, it is my baby. This has happened to me once previously. I lean towards withdrawing it but wonder what others think.

Thank you in anticipation for your suggestions and may you do well in the competition. For me its not about winning, it's about learning as much as I can and the competition forum is wonderful in this respect

... It is called Wisps and has been entered in the erotic poetry category.

I think might be the problem. The Valentine's Day Contest is a STORY contest.

If your work was entered as Erotic Poetry, by the definition of that category it is NOT a story and therefore not eligible for the story contest. That might also account for the wait. Stories entered for the Contest take preference over other submissions while the contest is running.

Thank you Oggbashan. It is a story, though it is in that category. I shall seek to withdraw it. Having waited and waited, it is disappointing. As this has happened to me once before I don't want to repeat the performance. The story is quite cogent and it could have been entered in other categories- which I wrote in the notes field on its submission. I wrote in the notes field that I didn't mind which category it was submitted in. I also wrote in this thread something similar.
I wish everyone well in their competitive endeavours.

Even so, it should have been posted by now. Poems, unless they are illustrated or audio, usually post overnight.

The competition asks for a story and, as far as I can see, does not state the necessity of it being prose. To say that a story can't be expressed in terms other than prose negates the culture of our existance, most of the stories at the foundation our culture have been expressed in terms of poetry.

Chaucer and Shakespeare used poetry as did Longfellow and Patterson and so many others. In Australia there is a huge tradition of bush poetry and it could be argued that the best stories in Australia emanate from it. It uses humour, verse and often naughtiness to express the ethos of the nation. Poetry in story telling makes the stories memorable so that traditions can be learned and remembered. Prose simply doesn't measure up.

It's astonishing that the work of Geoffrey Chaucer, William SAhakespeare, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Andrew Barton (Banjo) Patterson, and so many others would still be stuck on pending if they had submitted it to a Literotica competition.

What a laugh, how delicious in its irony, to be in that esteemed company. The flattery is hugely excessive and, may I say, undeserved and embarrassing. It must be the greatest prize the competition has to offer. What can I say but thank you.

And those who fight the wars in these threads, with malicious intent and vituperative selfishness, may I say that the ugliness seems so pathetically ridiculous; that without embarrassment, people should fight and maime over only half a game.

Sorry hoo hoo boo, but those are the rules as expressed by the owners of this site.

Of course poetry can tell a story but the definitions of poetry and prose on Literotica are set - BY YOU.

You can write a story as a poem, and as long as it is more than 750 words long, you could submit it as a story in an appropriate category.

You didn't. You submitted it as "erotic poetry" which automatically disqualified it from being considered as a story for the contest.

I had a similar problem with my fifty-word stories. Since, by definition, they do not reach the minimum 750 words to be a 'story', I had to submit my first few as 'poetry'.

I solved that by submitting my fifty-word stories in sets of 15, since 15 x 50 = 750.

You could solve your dilemma the same way by submitting your entry in a prose category.

Og

Thank you Oggbashan, you are a treasure.

I'm rather susceptible to flattery, it's rare that I receive it, and when I realised who I am in company with, I lost interest in the competition. I suspect that I won't ever be in the same company again and I'm enjoying it, the deliciousness of such unintended praise, I should say is rather humbling but, dammit, it's not humbling at all, I rather enjoy it. I skipped and sang at work and thoroughly enjoyed myself today. I'm not going to find excuses or compromises to submit my poem, I don't need to. I don't want to destroy the bliss. I'd been reading this thread, disturbed by the unnecessarily ugly wars, so vigorously being engaged in, and was extremely depressed. Now I'm as happy as a lark having been elevated out of it all with honour which is greater than anything that could be provided in the competition, indeed, greater than I deserve. All I can express is my gratitude for this temporary honour.

Again, thank you for your care and concern.

It's fucking freezing down here! So I decided to stay in bed and read a Valentines Day story to Gabby this morning. What could be more rrrromantic than that?

WTF!!! 7 of the first ten listed are by some rookie nobodies ever heard of.

http://rlv.zcache.com/aint_ya_got_a_little_class_mustache_poster-p228322081180220603q4dx_400.jpg

I don't know this Ralph person and by and large, due to the amateur nature of the site, I try not to criticize any work that's been submitted. There's good and bad and everything in between. So be it.

So I won't discuss Ralph's individual works, instead I'll simply point out that there are too many of them in this contest. It's a joke that needs addressing. Especially in light of his threat to do this every contest this year.

It's not fair to other authors!

It's not fair to our readers!

So Ralph, on behalf of the millions of LITEROTICA readers, I'm asking you to show a little class...

Sorry, but I thought this was a story site. I didn't see the story limit sign.

I checked with Laurel and she said there's no limit to the number of stories that I can enter in a contest. It isn't like I'm going to win anyway. I just like writing.

Thank you for noticing my volume of stories. Did you read any of them? Do you have a particular favorite? Did you vote for any of them?

Perhaps, I can write a story for you. Give me some details of your personal life and I'll write you a story. Maybe that would make you feel less tense and less crazy.

Are you constipated again? Is that it? Maybe if you took that stick that's up your ass out of your ass, you'd go to the bathroom and feel normal, kind of, a little bit, not really, but you know what I mean, normal for you, not normal for the rest of us.

What happened to Sarahhh? I like her better than you. Where's Gabby? Did you poke another hole in her, again? Maybe you could blow her up and have her write me. We use to have the best conversations.

I'm almost done writing Valentine's Day contest stories, Scouries. I only have 9 more stories to post, before I start writing the sixty stories that I hope to post for Earth Day.

By the way, I didn't see a story posted from you. Are you going to honor us with a story or are you just going to complain about the other real writers who actually write stories?

I see the scouries and Freddie traveling show is still on the road. One bitches about the number of stories and the other replies to add even more advertising to the whole thing. Wow, what a subtle strategy.

Of course scouries comes off as the boob that he is by failing to realize that Ralph is Freddie. Duh! Everyone else knows this as Freddie told everyone that can read.

Rots of ruck guys.

The fact that you have more than 16,000 posts, too many of those to Scouries thread that his contest is a fake contest and he is a phony and a fraud is okay.

The fact that you and Scouries have shit all over the contest threads and all over the board is acceptable behavior.

Yet, when I reply to one lousy post, I suddenly have a traveling show.

It's a toss up who is the bigger ass here, you or Scouries.

I did read three of them – or at least parts of three. And no I didn’t vote for any of the three. I haven’t voted on a LITEROTICA story in over seven months and I don’t plan on voting on any one soon. I prefer not to get into a discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of your stories – but I will suggest that in future you shouldn’t submit them two seconds after you’ve finished writing the last word.

Like a good wine a good story should be allowed to mature.

Your stories (and this applies to not just you but to stories by all LITEROTICA authors) could be vastly improved if you only took the time to do the post “I’ve finished that one” work that every story requires. You know, things like rereading the story before you submit it. Of doing the basic corrections that every story requires. Of having the story edited. Of doing the whole job…

The lovely sarahhh :rose: has had some very difficult times over the last six months. In fact she may never recover enough to write again. Many of her friends now hope that she’ll last long enough to see her beloved STEELERS win another Super Bowl.

As for Gaby you’ve never met her.

I will not be entering a story in the LITEROTICA Valentines Day Contest (although I may enter one in the A.I.R. CONTEST). This is because during my negotiations with the PALACE for my 2011 ROYALTY CONTRACT I insisted that the clause requiring my participation in a minimum number of contests every year be removed. So I no longer am contractually obligated to enter.

And so, like just about every other of the FAVORITE AUTHORS on this site, I’ve chosen to boycott the contest. And of course it’s people like you who must assume responsibility for the dearth of entries from the greats.

And finally, while some losers hereabouts believe that you’re the great [size=+2]freddie :D
we at ScouriesWorld are not fooled or amused by this silly claim.

Ye gods...

I'm really beginning to wonder if I'm going to finish either of my stories in time.

Any newcomers, please try to ignore the off-topic/sour grapes/incomprehensible blathering. There's still a support thread here if you have questions or just want to wallow in nervous angst over how your story is doing :D

Reread before submitting?

I'll match any one of my stories against any one of your stories. Oh, wait, you only write incest stories.

Yet, here you are attacking another writer. Why? Are you jealous that I'm more prolific than you?

I write the best stories that I know how to write. I don't just dump stories on the board. I devote hours to creating them, writing them, editing them, and rereading them. I'm sorry my stories are not up to your standards and worthy of your vote.

Please refrain from using my names Freddie, Susan, Ralph, Andtheend, Bostonfictionwriter, CarBuffStuff, PositiveThinker, SuperHeroRalph, and WmForrester in any of your posts. TxRad takes a hissy fit, whenever I dare make a post to the forum board.

This is my last post to you. Good-bye. Enjoy your life.

I could give a shit where you post or what you post except when you and scouries play your games. I'm just making sure the newbies know what that game is.

Have a nice day and keep writing.

I have a question concerning the "Loving Wives" category. On the category it says "Tales of adventurous married women & their mates." Is it Wives and their husbands? Wives and their lovers? Faithfulness? Infidelity? Some? All of the above? Or is this another of those broad categories where most anything goes? Another Lit author also had this inquiry as they are working on a story that they thought is best placed in that category; but now is not so sure.

Thanks!

I'm snowbound! A perfect excuse to write. Alas, the muses are not cooperating, neither is my focus. sigh* I am enjoying reading the contest entries though :) Hope everyone is warm and safe, especially those experiencing winter's wrath! If you've read my contest entry, voted, or commented, THANK YOU!

Question #1 is always "Does the author understand the disturbing nature of the feedback in the LW category?"

A healthy exposure to the commentary delivered there should always be the first step in determining whether to post to it. If you can't handle the harsh, unbalanced, and just downright mean and crazy, it should be avoided.

Beyond that, the category is mainly about married couples and their lives. Most of the stories also involve cheating by the woman.

In all honesty, the only reason to post there is to purposely poke the natives with a stick, or for the exposure to large numbers of readers -- second only to incest/taboo on the site. The trade-off is that a large part of that exposure isn't good, and many of that bad element are stalkerish and will follow an author to other categories to slam earlier/later works.

If you know what you're getting into, and the story is about a woman cheating on her husband, it's the right category.

No one's quite sure--least of all those who read in the category. You have to decide what it means to you and then take your chances with a warring readership.

Maybe that's the problem - that you just devote hours to writing, etc. Most of us devote days, months, or even years to individual stories.

Thanks, Dark and sr71plt. That does help and I will pass this along! So would a typical Wife/Husband story be best placed in Romance? Erotic Couplings is more someone you just meet, not in a relatinship with, right?

Well, Zen Love Everlasting is submitted and should be up with next Tuesday's audio update. I'm really proud of it. :)

Thanks to all who wished me well when I was sick.
