It is too bad they had Musk stop short. Some big ones that didn't get DOGE'd that really need it are DHS and all the entities below that need it. Not the officers, but the IT and support staff positions in all the 3 or 4 letter agencies within DHS are full of the same blubber weights we saw let go at USAID and State Dept. I also think the mechanism the US Congress uses to "manage" US Financial assets could use a good DOGEing too.
For the fun of it I went to a congressman's "job Fair" that was organized about 40 miles out from the Capitol last week. It was touted as a job fair for all those displaced government workers. It wasn't crowded at all and those there seemed young and likely not had a gov job or any corp job yet.

Does AR Barrel Length Matter?​

It seems like one of the more recent trends in ARs is building 5.56mm rifles that use longer barrels. 20-inch barrels are about the norm, and there’s the occasionally longer barrel too. This begs the question, what does a longer 5.56mm barrel net you, if anything?

Barrel length is a classic argument that has raged for decades. Early AR-15s and M-16s originally defaulted to 20 inch barrels. As the M-16 spent years in service, that barrel length kept becoming shorter. Nowadays, most US military 5.56mm service weapons have 14.5 inch barrels (M4 Carbine). Special operations units have always been the wildcard and have historically used a wide spectrum of barrel lengths, depending on mission sets and weapon requirements.

Law enforcement is downstream from the military in this sense, so 11.5 to 14.5 inches is the norm–for those willing to deal with the paperwork. The rest just rely on standard 16 inch barrel carbines. In private hands, 5.56mm barrel lengths range from 7 to 24 inches.

Longer Barrel Advantages​

There is consensus that longer barrels generally translate to faster muzzle velocities. In tandem with their twist rates, they may possibly help stabilize longer projectiles.

Does this matter? Sure, but not for most cases, I think.

I have two models. An older Colt with the 20" barrel and a newer type with the 16" barrel. The big difference is the twist rate. The Colt has a 1:9 twist and doesn't handle the 68 gr. very well. Beyond that, over the effective range of the cartridge not a lot to argue about.

Turn of the century, I got Junior an Armalite M15A2 NM. That was/is a damned fine shooting rifle. I think it was 1:7 or 1:8. You had to suck or be blind to shoot poorly with it.
