Gee Lance, i never meant to make ya cry. But i don't give a flying fuck it i DID! :D

(i understand that some of the Flying Wallendas used to have very interesting "private parties" after the Big Top got zipped up at night)

Actually, i have come to appreciate the "wind you blow". It is as you say, "just words on a screen".

You have carried things to extremes at times perhaps, but how else can the "load bearing capacity" of a floor, the ICE, or a community's goodwill be tested. You have occasionally apologized for your excesses in a way that seems quite genuine to me.

(it does seem like a challenge though, like Fonzie saying he was WRONG)

But somebody has to say at some point, "Having a bonfire on the lake is a COOL IDEA! Let's TRY it!" Then put a bunch of wood and a shovel on a toboggan and get out there and try it!

Then after it's burning pretty good and people start to gather around, all laughing and saying, "This is NUTS! But it's COOL!" someone has to bring in the weenies and marshmallows.

Then we see who's crazy enough to stand close enough to the fire to cook something.

i'm gettin' usta ya, Lance "Ever the IceBreaker" Castor. If ya fall in toasting a marshmallow, i promise to deliberate quickly when reviewing my options.

Keep pushing the envelopes,
Make sure they're stamped too,
Blue

It's really sad watching ya'll try to keep up with Lance. You'd think ya'll would learn sooner or later... or maybe ya'll are gluttons for punishment.

PBW "Game over, maaannnn!"

So...am i being PUNISHED?

Am i losing the race..??
Why don't my FRIENDS tell me these things?

Well... I actually tried to tell ya'll when I was making all those friendly announcements from up in the booth... but a "friendly" PM from Miss Muffin told me to shut my hole. :)

Or is this maybe a little self-test for you... kinda like testing your meddle against the master to see how ya'll do? That I can understand. Can't get better without some competition. :)

PBW <bowing toward Lance>"We are not worthy..."

Hey, PW, I don't think I ever told you this, but I thought the announcements were pretty cool.

As for Lance and Mz, basically I view their interactions as an extended flirt. I'm gonna bow out now, in fact. Lance, enjoy the "butterfly"!

So you'd really fuck me before Lance, Mz? ;)

Thanks Sandia... I enjoyed doing them... but alas... some did not care for them. <shrugs>

Uhmmm... Sandia... even if she would fuck you before Lance... would ya really want to? I mean... two words: butterfly board. I mean hell, I could see it if she was a hot chick into regular sex with guys... but that ain't the case... you'd walk outta that room with some serious cuts and bruises dude... run, don't walk! LOL

Good Morning, Thread-shine!

Another beautiful day to be alive!

Hi Blue....I figure there's lots of room in the Forum for all kinds of threads, don't you?

Take this one, for example.....you were one of the very first people to post to it, and you post to it with some regularity.

I don't think I need to be told how/when to post any more than you should be told how to post, right? (right) BTW, loved that Flying Wallenda reference, and no, I dont see us as being in any kind of struggle and yes, I hear what you are trying to say to me and no I likely won't heed you...as I said, the Forum is still allowing New Threads.

PBW....lots of people like your "Announcing" posts; they certainly don't have to be about me but I dont mind if they are. MissT is a lovely person and my guess is she was viewing the Announcer as Flame Fuel.....but I think we're all way past that now and we all realize this isn't a flame....it's a way of life, man.....a new paradigm, dig?

Sandia, thanks for stepping aside.....I'm one step closer to hot, crispy toast! Woo-hoo!

Good morning to you.

I see you found another admirer. The day started off good for ya didnt it?

Oh and I am on that side too.

I have to get up and shower soon to take my kidlets to school.

Just outa curiousity (of which i have an ABUNDANT supply)

Didja ever REALLY start a bonfire on a frozen lake? Here in Minnesota there are years when we could do that, safely, but i never heard of any actually trying it.

i hafta wonder about techniques for keeping it from getting too wet on the bottom, and how long to make the weenie skewers and stuff like that.

Of course, it would never replace a really good toaster oven, but it'd just RIP! Especially at night!!

Ever the wondering boy,
Blue

Re: Just outa curiousity (of which i have an ABUNDANT supply)

Sure....every year on my birthday. The ice hardly melts at all, as it's usually over 6 inches thick (Canada remember) and the heat goes up.

I clear a big rink in front of the cottage, make a huge pot of chile and have 20 or 30 people up for the day to skate, play hockey, etc.

One year the fire was hard to light and all I had left was gasoline/oil mix for the ski boat.....we here at Lance Castor Industries aren't recommending you try that at home. It seems funny in retrospect, but I nearly blew myself up....which would have been a huge loss for this Forum.

Cheers;
Lance

Flamers Take Note

Here's some good Netiquette info on Flaming, FYI.
Lance

***************

"Flaming" is what people do when they express a strongly held opinion without holding back any emotion. It's the kind of message that makes people respond, "Oh come on, tell us how you really feel." Tact is not its objective.

Does Netiquette forbid flaming? Not at all. Flaming is a long-standing network tradition (and Netiquette never messes with tradition). Flames can be lots of fun, both to write and to read. And the recipients of flames sometimes deserve the heat.

But Netiquette does forbid the perpetuation of flame wars -- series of angry letters, most of them from two or three people directed toward each other, that can dominate the tone and destroy the camaraderie of a discussion group. It's unfair to the other members of the group. And while flame wars can initially be amusing, they get boring very quickly to people who aren't involved in them. They're an unfair monopolization of bandwidth.

Well Lance, this has to be your funniest post yet. While I agree with everything in your post, I find it highly amusing that it comes form you.

Was this an attempt at sarcasm? If so it is very good. Was this a serious attempt at improving the tone of this board? If so, I wish EVERYONE would take it to heart. Was this an attempt at professing innocence as to your part in these "flames?" I hope not, but if so...

I can't possibly come up with anyone who has done more "flaming" than you have since I came to this board. You have refused to let "flames" die, and have encouraged them from the sidelines, throwing gas on them at every opportunity.

Here's hoping it was the second option, and that it is a sincere attempt to improve the tone of the board.

Re: Re: Flamers Take Note

Hi Zip;

My position on the question of flame wars is as follows:

1. Flame wars can be loads of fun, for a while, and people tend to enjoy them, for a while;

2. I prefer my flame-fights to be fun and light; when Unregistered and other Trolls (cowards!) show up or the words start to get too angry and/or mean, I stop at some point, and sometimes issue a note or two to signal my withdrawal;

3. When I do get down and dirty and say rude/mean things in the heat of discussion, I either go back and erase the words afterwards and/or apologize;

4. It takes two to tango.
Examples:

4.1 Protracted bitching with CarolineOh is of no interest to me. Besides, she's moved on to PBW last I checked.

4.2 Cym most recently was after Ruby and I was neither the first nor the last to say something about it. Cym flips out every 4-6 weeks anyway, always has, always will. It's not about me any more than it's about You or a head of lettuce at the grocery store, dude.

4.3 Dick DeVille has surfaced and has started three or four flame threads today, maybe aimed at me...check his writing versus mine and decide for yourself.

4.4 MzChrista often takes a few swipes at me each nite at about 10-11pm Eastern, but if you read the notes, you'll see that that's hardly a flame fight. I respect her and enjoy her posts, often laughing along with you at her insults towards me....flames? Ha!

5. If someones starts a flame with me....and I decide to bite...there's a good pretty good chance I'll still be standing when it's done. And I'll likely be laughing at the whole thing. It's a pron board....relax.

THE POINT IS:

* If I were in a repeated and onging battle with one person, I'd have to stand up and say "Yep, it's 50% my fault" in front of the class. But I'm not. I'm just doin my thing, havin a good time, Zip.

* I enjoy rollicking fast paced discussions that have meat on their bones.

* I've been using Lit since it launched in '96; I've been an EEF member since it launched. I know about freedom of expression and the internet. And I know about netiquette. And I believe I can handle myself in most any environment.

* It takes two to tango.

* There's plenty of whining and bitching that goes on around here anyway....always has been.

* Blaming anything on one user is infantile. Grow up & bite me is my standard (paraphrased) response to that.

Glad you enjoyed my post; hope you find the information useful;

Lance

Re: Re: Re: Flamers Take Note

Lance,

Thanks for elaborating on your postion about flames. I did not mind the length of it (no bad jokes please) as long as you don't plan on posting and reposting it repeatedly.

For the record:

1) I wasn't blaming everything on any one person. That would be naive, and others here have dibs on naivete.
2) I felt you had a hard-on for cym - and not in the good way.
3) I do think you were looking to keep it going with cym - the reasons for the origin of your fight with her I do not know, so I do not judge. Just my observations
4) I don't blame you at all for her leaving the site. That's her choice, as it is for the rest of us.

I was just seeking clarification.

Thank you,
Zip
