What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Rammstein - Zick Zack

A rather vicious way to deal with today's beauty standards. Expertly done and - as always - garnished with some truly dark comedy.

Zero Hour - Technocracy

I'd call that Nevermore-adjacent. Or Communic-esque. Not bad. A little less guitar gymnastics and a bit more focus on their melodies would - imho of course - do them some good. New album Agenda 21 recently released.

That's not exactly "metal", dear Deaf Forever. Still, some cool music!

(dolch) - Nacht

Some very, very spaced-out goth rock, in the broadest sense. The reviewer mentioned Chelsea Wolfe as one point of reference, but this sounds a lot less apocalyptic and more ... intimate, sensual. Never heard of these people before, but this record just leaped on my radar.

Master Boot Record - Personal Computer

One could call this "chiptune", but it also has a lot of thrash metal and even some classical moments in it. Of course, this is totally up my alley. Metal sensibilities are strong, but they don't get in the way of making simply great ass-kicking music.

And now the most controversial thing I've heard recently.

Envy Of None - Look Inside

This is the new band of Rush's Alex Lifeson and the reviewer EVISCERATED the album. His main criticism basically boils down to "WTF is this? Why does this not sound like Rush?" and he slapped a 2/10 on it. Granted, I've so far only heard two songs off it (this and "Liar"), but I'm totally digging the Eden House vibes I'm getting from it. No idea how big my tolerance for dreamy, whispery vocals will be over a full album's length, but I'm intrigued. Also, hats off to Alex for doing something entirely different to his former band. Classy move in my opinion.

Great new release Friday!

First and foremost: Pink Floyd (or at least half the group) released their first new song in twenty-eight years, a protest song against the war in Ukraine featuring vocals by lead singer of the Ukrainian rock band, Boombox, Andriy Khlyvnyuk. "Hey, Hey Rise Up." Gilmour has personal interest in the war as his daughter-in-law and grandchildren are Ukrainian.

Next up Rush guitarist, Alex Lifeson, with his new band Envy of None released their eponymous first album.

Guitarist, singer, songwriter of Airbag, Bjorn Riis released his newest solo album, Everything to Everyone.

Russian multi-instrumentalist Egor Lappo released his newest album, Naturealism

Last of the new releases on my radar is the Swedish band Hallas with Isle of Wisdom.

Yep, not a happy bank manager, but very, very happy ears.

Peace, love and happiness one and all!

I need to hear this.

Per @Blind_Justice 's comment - if reviewers are POd because it isn't "Rush-Mark-II" ... I agree, screw 'em. I look forward to hearing it and forming my own opinion.

D:\Music\Aphrodides Child\666 The Apocalypse Of Saint John

A stone-cold classic, IMO!

This is what Demis Roussos did before he became "Demis Roussos".

Envy of None

Better than I expected after hearing the two tracks released early. This is electronic industrial music. The vocalist works nicely in the musical context the musicians created. The final song is an exquisite instrumental guitar piece that for me was a huge highlight. It was the only guitar forward song on the album. It's not Rush, but that's not what I expected this to be. I like it.

Everything to Everyone

Bjorn Riis

Fantastic new release - Riis' best yet. Great guitar work very reminiscent of David Gilmour.

Welsh massed choirs 1963:

This reminds me of a time when I used to sing in an amateur hour - as a basso profundo which they didn't need very often.
