Чути Гімн / You can hear the Anthem - Skofka

"Whose Down" - Dedicated to Azov - a bit of Ukrainian Metal

Eyes pecked with stars, Fingers cut by strings,
Ears are stunned by songs, The body is painted with runes.
The heart is drunk with dews, Legs crippled by wanderings,
Steps echoing thunderstorms The path runs through the meanders.
Hands with swords callous, The chest is pierced with arrows. A
ll roads are allowed for me, Because I am the whitest among the Whites.
—————
When the springs are stolen under the steps
The dry discharges of your charm crackle —
I hear the wheezing of the upcoming war
And the delicate aroma of napalm.

Vitaliy "Nestor" Nesterchuk, Nimców

The Sword of Areya is a Ukrainian song, originally written for the bandura by the author of Vasily Lyutoy

A thunder rumbles in God's forge.
Warriors with shoulder- long hair are waiting.
The hand of gray-haired Svaroh
Smith a strong sword for Arei.

Now the weapon is ready,
It reflects in the shine of sky.
God Mother blessed it.
And people named it Charkes.

Arei's hand lifts the sword
For the glory of Perun warriors,
For strong spirit, for our defense.
He will kill evil foes!

The Earth shakes because of the Thunder in the Sky,
The sword of Arei brings a freedom for Rus- Ukraine.
Foes will be vanished in Ukraine.
The sword of Arei will bring our land back!

Charkes is the magic sword of Arei,
It has been held by Tur and Sviatoslav.
It has bravely defended
Rus-Ukraine and Borea.

Hatylo, the given by God, has held it,
And great dukes have held it.
The sword was a weapon of knights and hetmans,
And now it's in your hand!

Arei's hand lifts the sword
For the glory of Perun warriors,
For strong spirit, for our defense.
He will kill evil foes!

The Earth shakes because of the Thunder in the Sky
The sword of Arei brings a freedom for Rus- Ukraine.
Foes will be vanished in Ukraine.
The sword of Arei will bring our land back!

I'm waiting for millions of keyboard warriors to howl in denial when Twitter shuts down forever. To this day I don't understand what that service was good for.

Amid the LPs in my boxes are a few albums I've collected. I have 18 LPs by Poco, and I heard this the other day; it brought back a load of memories:-

New here, fantastic thread! Been expanding my musical literacy thanks to all the songs you guys are listening to. As for me this morning:

The Cinematic Orchestra - All that you give
(With the lovely Fontella Bass)

New song idea Dani has been cooking up. "Dance of the Ice Fairies", suitably wintry and crisp. Needs a bit more time until it's done but the lead melody is already to die for. Plus it's a synthwave waltz. :)

LOL. Great for news and commentary far faster and more current than any other social media or the MSM. I only really latched onto Twitter with the war in Ukraine, and its been so useful. As for stories of it's demise, believe that when it crashes. It's doing fine so far. LOL. Anyhow, music....

"See You Again"

This is my favorite Dylan song.
Not many know that the Nobel Prize winner was born with the Jewish name Robert Zimmerman. He changed his name as a tribute to Dylan Thomas whom he admired.
It was written about his wife, Sara Lownds (Lowlands/Lownds).

I always liked Cat Stevens - blame my granddad - he had all these old CDs I used to raid when I was a kid. And you reminded me of this one, about Patti D'Arbanville, who was his girlfriend back in the late 1960's, from 1968-1970, when she was 18-19 and working as a model in London. She was the inspiration for at least two of his hit songs: "Lady D'Arbanville" and "Wild World." Patti was 17 when her mother allowed her to appear in an Andy Warhol project, and then in a lesbian love-scene in a movie called "Flesh" (1968). After Flesh, D'Arbanville performed in Warhol's L'Amour (1973), and as the title character in the David Hamilton film Bilitis (1977).

Cat Stevens recorded this black and white video featuring both him and the song's muse, Patti D'Arbanville, in a Gothic English mansion. As Stevens performs the tune, D'Arbanville drifts around the building as if she were a ghost. At no point do the two characters interact, adding to the feeling of loss and separation that is a central lyrical theme. It is one of the earliest cinematic music videos ever made. Yusuf/Stevens' team rediscovered the clip while delving deep in his vaults. They re-released it as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Mona Bone Jakon with newly remastered audio.

There's a really interesting writeup on the song and it's background, as well as on Patti D'Arbanville, here.
