What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Is it expected to be different today?
To be honest, no. There are still a number of reps who can't / will not vote for McCarthy. The conservative estimate is atleast 1 or 2 more days of this. For now, in a holding pattern until 10pm ET.

Sorrows (not to be confused with the 20-years-older English band: The Sorrows)

An indie punk-pop band from New York that had a popular, critically praised debut album and many dedicated fans in 1980. While preparing to record demos for their second album, they signed a major-label record contract. They were then flown to London to record that album, whereupon the big-name producer who'd been hired to supervise the recording started replacing band members with ho-hum session players. The album got made, but the band members were disgusted with the result, which fans of the band or pop music in general did not care for, either. All of this caused a chain reaction of events that caused the band to break up: a poster child for record label mismanagement forevermore. The album was released on vinyl and never made it to CD.

Flash forward 40 years and the band is talking to each other again. They procure the rights to use their original guide tracks in re-making the album to their liking. Voilà:
Love Too Late... The Real Album.

This popped up on my You Tube side bar. A new spin on one of the cheesy 80's sound track sounds(That I am admittedly a sucker for.)

Now I have this version in my head. Video is interesting to say the least

It's Friday and my Youtube stream is filled with more or less exciting new music.

First off, it seems to be a good week for goth rock. Both Grave Pleasures and Host have put out new music which usually hints at a soon-ish album release. The former play very, VERY '80s goth, somewhere between The Cure and The Smiths while the latter have a bit more bite and seem to draw their ideas from the '90s, Nine Inch Nails, Manson, the misguided Paradise Lost goth rock phase. Very good! I have both previous Grave Pleasures albums and if they keep their general quality level, the new one will be a banger of epic proportions. Host are new to me, but what I've heard from their song today makes me very curious to try them. If you're sensitive to strobes, look away when watching the Grave Pleasures video. I am NOT sensitive to strobes and I walked away with a headache...

I'm very much looking forward to the new Delain record. Of all the female-fronted symphonic metal bands, they have been the least annoying as of late and when they spectacularly imploded in 2021, I was a bit saddened. Looks like Martijn Westerholt hired some old acquaintances and dug up a new siren to hold the microphone and they are about to release a new album in February. Of the three songs I've heard so far, Moth To The Flame is by far the most pop-oriented, sugary thing you can get from this outfit and I'm not quite sure if I like it or not. It's phenomenally produced, played and arranged, but the hook rubs me utterly the wrong way. No idea what.

Speaking of female-fronted: Beyond The Black's last single "Reincarnation" has become something of a small radio hit on my local rock radio, but their new one, "Free Me" sounds way too pedestrian, I've-heard-this-a-thousand-times. A shame.

The last pleasant surprise are Night Demon and their "Outsider". Very grounded, old-school face melting shred. Yes please! Oddly enough, this song reminds me of the Foo Fighters, of all bands, only with a bit more '80s edge. Yup, likey.
