What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

OTD in 1975, this song reached #3 in the US. I listened to it quite a lot for inspiration (and also because it's a cool song) around the time I joined Lit and jumped in feet first to writing and publishing, which was two years ago this month.

Atlanta Rhythm Section (re-recorded, 'cause the original versions needed it):

Yes, a hit song about that.

How then am I so different from the first men through this way?

Like them, I left a settled life, I threw it all away

To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men

To find there but the road back home again

I recently purchased an electric drum kit; always wanted to play.

I'm completely self taught, so I've been sticking to some easy songs to try and learn.

My faves to play so far are:

Highway To Hell - AC/DC
Roll With The Changes - REO Speedwagon
Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison
My Sharona - The Knack
Fortunate Son - CCR
Honky Tonk Woman - The Rolling Stones
Johnny B. Goode- Chuck Berry
Uptight - Stevie Wonder
Gimmie Some Lovin' - Spencer Davis Group

There's more but those I play a lot

Great set list! Practice makes perfect, if you ever decide to record a cover definitely share!

I actually did record a video of me playing Highway To Hell and posted it on Facebook.

Not sure how I'd post it here though.

Not shy about showing my face, but wondering if the link would work or not.

I’m pretty sure you can upload to YouTube if they won’t let FB links past.

Thanks! One more, just a quick one.

Practiced the intro for Enter Sandman all night, messed up every time.

Sar down to record it and nailed it first take.

How long have you been playing? It looks like you've got some natural talent, there! Percussion makes my brain hurt. I play several instruments, and sing--and can play several while singing... but percussion is just not my language.

Love Metallica! I picked up guitar over Covid... I've about made my way through Nothing Else Matters, and I've been fiddling with Classical Gas every other week. Having to keep my nails short is the hardest bit with it but I've been managing. My musical endeavors are the last on my list these days.

I've only had this kit a few weeks.

But I've been a "dashboard" drummer all my life 😆.

I've sat at a buddy's kit a few times, messing around.

But this is the first time I've owned a set.

It's been a blast.

Metallica is fucking hard. Sandman is probably their easiest drum song, but it's not that easy lol.

I'm no expert judge, but it looks like you've been at it a few months at least, that's badass! I think it's safe to say you definitely have some natural talent. And I agree, Metallica IS hard... I don't think any instrument in Metallica is done on a 'simple' scale. Tab is a lot easier to read than Treble/Bass clef at least. I'm a long way from tackling Master of Puppets, that's for sure.

Okay. I'm gonna stop hijacking the Listening Thread, now. Thanks for sharing Djmac! :giggle:

Thank you. My cousin is a drummer, WAY better than me. He's given me a few tips. The rest is online videos and self taught.

Lars doesn't play a lot of standard riffs. His signature is very... unique.

Ah, I wouldn't worry. Nobody cares about that around here, do they?
