What are you watching?

Right now, Jesse Watters Primetime, but looking forward to watching Nobody 2 tomorrow, when it comes to Netflix. Seen Nobody 1 twice already. Awesome!

Movies:

Finished the most excellent documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, on Prime. A lot of input from Linda herself and others. It's a portrait of a warm, loving woman with an extraordinary talent. Bravo!

Next, finally, I watched Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk, of Breaking Bad and Just Call Saul. Fabulous! A very worthy follow-up to the outstanding original - plenty of bloody violence, with natural humor thrown in. I'll wait a few weeks and watch it again, but Sharon Stone as the villain, is not at all aging well.

Next, an old gem: Charley Varrick, with Walter Matthau. He and his crew robbed the wrong bank and ends up with the cops, the Mafia, and Joe Don Baker after him. This is what cool looked like in those days.

Scarpetta is ok, a little disjointed and hard to follow with all the flashbacks. JLC is very funny.

Some movies, all on Prime:

Finished up The Woman King, a fictionalized account of the real women warriors of 19th century in the now gone kingdom of Dahomey in Africa. Excellent in several ways, but completely snubbed by the vacuous and phony Academy Award voters. I agree that the wins that year for Best Picture, Actress, Supporting Actress, Director and Original Screenplay for the astonishingly brilliant 'Everything, Everywhere, All At Once' are supremely deserved.

But not even a nod to the great Viola Davis (as the title character), from whom we've grown to expect excellence, and what I think is even a better performance by the amazing Thuso Mbedu, who is the glue that guides the picture. Just watch - you won't be sorry.

This isn't just another idiotic, empty 'girl power' flick that just exist for the posing opportunities.

Next up was the 'lighthearted' Waterhole #3 from 1967. Silly and fun western with James Coburn and an early co-starring role for Carroll O'Connor. It's fun, but terribly 'UN-PC' with a rape treated like a recurring joke all the way through. They couldn't have that shit in a movie today.
This isn't a decent trailer, but...

Now I'm halfway through the Dean Martin and Robert Mitchum 1968 western thriller Five Card Stud. If I saw this, I don't remember it. It's good so far, a mystery about who's murdering the men in a poker game who lynched a cheater. It's always good to see the stunning but tragic Inger Stevens.

Tonight I'm back to Jett, the only season of Carla Gugino's series. It's great - not sure why it didn't get a second season. Maybe because I'm on episode four and I haven't seen any of those fabulous Gugino titties yet.

Remember that for your next series, Carla...
