What are you watching?

A Netflix day, with 1 1/2 movies.

First, Sisu: Road to Revenge, the magnificent sequel to the outstanding Sisu, starring Jorma Tommila. I think this one may be better, so I'll have to watch the original again. Jorma speaks no words in this one, although he utters a few at the end of the first one. He doesn't need to. He's a very expressive actor in that taciturn Clint Eastwood way, but you always know what he's thinking.

Minor note: They state in the first frames that this happens in 1946, but there are numerous scenes featuring an AK-47 (47 is the year the assault rifle was approved, but it had yet to be issued to general troops).

In this gleefully gory, bloodbath of a flick, the stunts are so over the top that even the team behind the Fast and Furious franchise would've rejected them - but it all works in this bloody ballet. It's awesome to see Stephen Lang as the bad guy! Bravo!

Next, I'm halfway through Humint, a South Korean spy film dealing with drug and human trafficking. So far, it's a complex tale that unfolds in an easy to follow way, with intense suspense at every turn. And the dubbing isn't bad (I'm just always surprised that Asians don't sound like this when I meet them - LOL). So far, so good.

Two movies on Prime:

Civil War starring Kirsten Dunst. It starts well, with unnamed secessionists assaulting the U.S. government. Interesting that no left/right sides are never named, and there is no proselytizing about any politics involved. In a day where every movie seems to want to promote its 'message,' this one just throws you in the water.

BUT: after a viable journey by journalists to Washington D.C., the ending makes the whole thing a stupid mess that defies logic. Watch at your own risk.

Next, what turned out to be a second viewing of Jason Statham's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. I watched the trailer, and figured it as a sequel. No matter - great fun and mayhem soon come your way. Special kudos (of course to Statham) to Aubrey Plaza for her great, funny but serious part, Josh Hartnett, and Hugh Grant in a role where I actually liked him for once. Will probably watch again.
