I tried listening and then reading Artemis but I had to stop about 1/4 of the way though.... I couldn't get into it.

Yes that’s what I heard, I got lucky as the person who recommended the Martian to me way before the movie, told me to skip his second but to definitely read project Hail Mary. I like how he covers such great science, I just saw an interview with Neil deGrasse where he was willing to give Andy Weir a pass because of his writing is so scientifically accurate.
