What fresh hell has Literotica created now?

Have you considered that the author, perhaps, is indecisive and republished the same story, several times, within the same minute?
Nobody else seems to be getting your sense of humor and lack of seriousness

there is no dev server 😱

Edit: Laurel messaged me to assure me that Lit does in fact have a development server that Manu uses to test new site code before pushing it to production. I don't have any reason to doubt her, sooo I'm editing my comment!
Just self-quoting to highlight my edit... This isn't a joke, I'm not making this up😅

Laurel messaged you just like that? And to let you know that Manu has a dev server, just because she read your post?
Yes, it was kind of a jump scare😅

I won't paste the entire message here because I assume she would have just replied if she wanted it to all be public, but I think she wanted to nip this particular misconception in the bud!

You might get angry at this, but I'll choose to disbelieve your claim as I find the opposite to be a lot more disturbing. 🫤

I dunno what to tell you guys, she didn't answer the secrets of the universe, she just wanted to dispell the idea that they don't have a dev server or were testing on production 🤷🏼

I also asked about the possibility of Lit getting some sort of official community liason, but she didn't respond to that part😅

In all seriousness, it's a great step forward that there was some communication. I really do appreciate that.

That said, I did write a damned text book on this stuff and have run numerous real world groups; the apparent processes (or lack there of) bother me deeply. Not that I expect an offer would be accepted, but I would be glad to work with Manu to look at anyways things could be improved without substantial work in the interim (long term, better processes would save him effort). I'm certain he has a mountain oftechnicl debt swamping him. There are many other obviously skilled techs here who would also be glad to help, I'm sure.

See, I've no reason to doubt your words. But what you revealed implies that:

1. Laurel (still) reads the forums. She has the time to read them.

2. Over this trying period of several months, she has, then, likely seen the flood of frustrated, angry, desperate threads and posts, and chose not to say anything. Chose not to provide any guidance or information to the multitude of stressed-out authors whose stories were being stuck for weeks and had no idea whether to resubmit or not, whether they were doing something wrong or not.
But she broke the silence over this. Okay.

3. The fact that she told you about the dev server instead of making a short post about it in the thread implies a couple of things.
First, she told you, so she doesn't mind that information going public.
Second, she continuously chooses to speak through a couple of "chosen ones" instead of informing people through public forum posts, which makes absolutely no sense, unless she wants to nurture this cult-like view that some AH-ers have of Lit and her.

Yeah, as you see, the implications are quite disturbing and show obvious sociopathic behavior.

I don't know what to tell you. It's probably better if we believe that you told us some white lies.

This is probably why Laurel doesn't bother to reply on the forums much 😶

But she didn't tell or ask me to keep anything in the message to myself, so I guess I'll just post it

Edit: I was advised not to share a DM here 😬

It would be pretty trivial to fake this by injecting HTML into my web browser though, so I guess do what you will with that...

I believe you, Penny. I believed you the first time you said it. I was just being a bit facetious about it, for the obvious reasons.

For what it's worth, I don't think Laurel will like you linking her PM like this. It might be better if you take it down, for your sake.
Jesus. She doesn't have time to correct what she calls our "gossip," but she has the time to write that PM, just because.

For the record, this thread IS idle gossip over mostly trivial UI problems. But those many, many threads back then, weren't. I believe my previous claim stands.

damned if I do and damned if I don't, I don't want to act like a prophet of the site gods and obscure the message in King James English, y'all can just have it and fight over interpretation without me 🤣

I don't know why she decided to message me about it, but I could absolutely see why after 26 years she's decided not to wade into arguments with the two-dozen or so Immovable Objects of Authors Hangout...

Yeah, probably wise not to share...

But I'm selfishly glad you did. I know zero things about the site owners, so it was nice learn something. I now know that Laurel does writing and Manu (Manu?) does the development side of things.

I don't know, man. I think Manu playing Code Jenga with himself, by himself, on a room that doesn't have anything fragile that might break those expensive imitation vases is one of the cutest images I can conjure up about him.

It's not some "chosen ones". It's anybody who isn't a complete asshole and seems at least somewhat rational on whatever the subject is.

If she'd dropped that post here, this thread would have had 40 pages in about fifteen minutes — most of which would have been unrelated questions and bitching — and not quelled the "never communicates" accusation in the slightest. Even if she hung out for a couple of hours answering questions. Posting here has proved to be like posting in LW. Everything gets drowned out by the hate, and it's just not worth the headache.

In my experience, anybody who tries to manage things with a 'my office door is always open' approach pretty soon has to close their door to avoid being yanked from one issue to another without any time for strategic thinking or reflection. But as soon as you do that, there are communication issues and mistrust grows. I'm grateful that Laurel is able to take time for quick DMs, but I think that a bit more in the way of official communications about hot issues would be really helpful for simmering our cesspit down.
