When I Was a Kid....

WIWAK we had one channel on TV and it was black and white and covered in snow!

WIWAK "remote control channel changing" meant dad yelled "hey, change the damn channel" from his chair, and we did.

lol! WIWAK there were no microwave ovens...just Swanson TV dinners, and my dad would inevitably burn all the hair off his arms trying to light the gas oven!

OMG I remember those! And they would take for freakin' ever to warm up.
And if you did it wrong, the dessert got burned.

WIWAK We had one phone in the house that hung between the dining and living rooms that had a coiled cord at least a mile long.

and WIWAK you made popcorn in a pan with oil - or that new-fangled Jiffy-Pop stuff . . . .

WIWAK If you wanted to watch some show on TV you actually had to watch it right when it aired. No VCR, TVio, YouTube, etc...

When I was a kid Ronald Reagan was still making movies, I liked Ike and Adlai Stevenson still has holes in the soles of his shoes.

WIWAK we actually walked to and from school on our own. In fact the kids that got dropped off by their parents were teased.

WIWAK Halloween was about candy, and all of it was safe, and it was fun, and innocent.

WIWAK - I had a a big warm fuzzy teddy bear that I slept with every night for the longest time......he wasn't blue tho. :)

WIWAK I used to hear my parents "do it" & almost got hurt trying to peep once ( I fell from my perch )

WIWAK we used to entertain ourselves without the need for expensive electronic items - riding bikes, reading books, playing 'runout' or 'british bulldog' or 'knock down ginger', going for picnics or to the park, playing football or tennis in the street, playing with toys you could create things with, playing make believe, using our imaginations...

I miss those times!

I remember the Vietnam body counts each week on Cronkite along with the war protests at the local state college.

WIWAK we used to make mud pies

All soft drinks were in a bottle that you could return to the store for a few cents.

Oh god yes, I remember this too! 10p to return a glass bottle and you used to get a whole bagful of sweets for that too! :D

When I was a kid I almost busted a window with a sling shot that was given to me but I hit the metal instead. I'm sure that window is still dented.

We have ten cent bottle deposit here. I actually hate it, returning cans and bottles is one of my least favorite things to do.
