When I Was a Kid....

WIWAK, if my parents were going away for the weekend, they wouldn't have to worry about me burning down the house, cause I was a good little girl and didn't throw parties while they were away.

I went out.

*I thought I would post this in my thread, in case anyone cares to look....I'm going away for the Labor Day weekend and won't be around to post. Don't miss me too much!

Yeah because it is hard to have fun when others are fucking up your house...it is better to fuck up someone else's lol

WIWAK I spent my fall fridays traveling around South Georgia going to football games with my dad.

Have a wonderful weekend, Ellafun. Don't worry, we won't burn your thread down.

WIWAK I couldn't wait for the fresh crop of Saturday morning cartoons

WIWAK I thought the Atari 2600 was the baddest system ever. Now my kids want a Playstation 3.

I have an Atari 2600 now, and about 80 games. Still love it.

WIWAK...there was actually something known as Saturday Morning Cartoons that you would spend the week looking forward to...

there was no tivo, no PVR either. you watched it when it aired or you were S.O.L. Then, when the new Miami Vice aired, it was all you could do to wait until Monday to talk all about how dreamy Crockett looked in his pastel outfits. lol

our streets games included: mother may i?, red light/green light, red rover, tag, freeze tag, hide and seek, hide and go get it(when you were a little older), jacks, chinese jump rope.

good times....
WIWAK We had one phone in the house that hung between the dining and living rooms that had a coiled cord at least a mile long.

We also made a game of playing jumprope with the mile long rotary phone cord when Mom wasn't home and we'd even take it upstairs and talk on it to get some privacy.

WIWAK...Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and QBert were big...:)

Can't forget Donkey Kong, Frogger, Space Invaders, Asteroids... ;)

WIWAK .... when my mom would use the electric mixer it would cause static lines on the television. :D

We had a floor model tv with a color picture and a black & white portable that sat on top of it that had sound. it also had aluminum foil on the antennae and I remember my dad walking outside and throwing things at the antennae out there on the roof when a channel wouldn't come in right.

WIWAK Penny candy actually sold for a penny

do you remember when penny candy went from 1 cent each to 3 for a nickel? what a sad, sad day that was. oh, and Hershey candy bars were 25cents. not the miniatures... regular sized, and that's what you got for trick or treat.

WIWAK I made my sisters watch scary movies with me- not the slasher ones but suspense like: Legend of Hell House, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, Carrie. I pretended not to be afraid but always ended up snuggled with them.

WIWAK I used to watch scary movies and then have bad dreams for years. I liked to pretend to be brave.

I'll remember that! :D

WIWAK I used to like to stay up super late, it made me feel like a grown up.

I liked to get up early and sit with my dad as he drank his coffee and read the paper. I felt like he was all mine at that time of day.

I know who shot JR, Pong was a kick ass video game, we were the last on our street to get a B&W tv, I know what a shag rake is, Milk was delivered to your door in glass bottles, my parents used to buy powdered milk, I know what a milk shute is, Walkmans hadnt been invented yet, your neighbor could spank you and then you got it twice as hard when ya got home, we used the whole neighborhood to play hide & seek, tv's didnt have remote control, telephones had rotary dials, banking was done at the the bank and they would compare signature cards to verify who you were, gas was 25 cents a gallon, A&W root beer came in brown glass jugs, I know what klackers are and lawn darts too, aids was not invented yet.

There, Theres a few to start with...

WIWAK we walked barefoot down the country roads and popped the air bubbles in the tar with our toes

WIWAK We never tried that as I grew up in a big city where we tried to fry eggs on our driveways in the summer. The fun was in the trying. :)

Hi, y'all...I'm back! Thanks for keeping up with the posting while I was away.

I was reminded of something this morning that I haven't thought of in years...

anybody remember Otter Pops? I used to have them all the time in the summer!

We have them in our feezer now!!

WiWAK this was the last weekend of summer, not a 3 day weekend from school!!

WIWAK we spent the summer outdoors playing from sunrise to sunset...listened to the radio (AM stations only)....learned to ride skateboards that had metal wheels...went camping the same place all the other people in the neighborhood went and didn't worry about leaving the houses unattended

WIWAK no one questioned the idea of a guy riding around neighborhood selling ice cream...now you would think he is either a pedophile or a drug dealer...

WIWAK my roller skates had a key.

Now you're gonna have that stupid song by Melanie stuck in your head. bwahahaaa!

WIWAK Joe Namath wore panty hose and it was considered provocative. :p
