I think when it comes to PMs, “gentlemen first” is the proper rule.

The point of “ladies first” is for men to take on added danger if inconvenience…in cases where going *first* involves danger or inconvenience, men should go first.

I have been mistaken for a woman often here - the DMS I get are pretty rubbish.
