Winter Holiday 2010 Contest Support Thread

Just making sure that the new page's first post isn't hijacked ;)

Getting closer to having one of my ideas fleshed out.

Off topic.. but Box, where are your nanas!?!? lol. :p

Hello all. :) My story is holding steady.. since I have a couple extra days off, I might be able to get smething done with the other one, but we shall see. :)

I have come to the conclusion there are trolls on this forum - not this thread, but this forum - who take umbrage at something I say or feel personal animosity toward me. These people are liable to click onto the story just for the purpose of one-bombing it, and I don't want to make it any easier for them than I can help.

Well...has anyone read my second contest story? Because I'm trying to find out whats wrong with it...

Ultimate: Not yet. I will, promise! I'm behind in the new reading. Been stuck in bed nauseous and hurting :(

Anyone have a mallet to just knock me out until my mouth heals? The pain killers make me way too loopy and lower my inhibitions with myself! (Ooh, what fun!) Although, my chat buddies probably enjoyed themselves. :p

If you do write a second story for the contest do both count? or is only the first for consideration?

Hey Sweetest! Both count equally and separately; having no effect on the other except hopefully to pull readers to each other...Good luck!

But you can't come in first and second I assume :)

hahahahahahaha.... Love that attitude!!!! Nope, I'm pretty sure you get the higher of the two, but man o man the bragging rights that you would have. Good luck with that one!

LOL I wish i could atleast place in honorable mention once. I'm not bad enough for last place and not good enough for anything in top three

Finally... I've rewritten the opening of this thing twice now. First, it was too much of a romance setup ( which I don't have enough time to flesh out ) and then I had an extraneous character + a somewhat "wait a minute..." moment that I had to get rid of.

Think I've actually got this one going in the right direction now. Let's see if I can finish it in time :D

I'm happy enough with my story. Though i just wish it was controversial enough to get me into the top list LOL

Though my stories aren't scoring terribly high (circling right around 4, which is just fine) they are having the desired effect of getting people to read my other stuff. I just got a favorable comment on my ancient LW story! :D

So, off topic question: What word count would you say qualifies for putting a story in the Story Series category?

Thanks!

Do you mean Novels/Novellas, or the "Story Series" feature that was implemented recently?

If you mean the series feature, that just singles out chaptered stories, so it would be pretty much anything that you divide up, whether two chapters or a dozen.

The novels category doesn't get much traffic, and there aren't really any set criteria. I'm sure a 1 pager would get recategorized by the moderaters, but otherwise, it's pretty open. It can be used as a catch-all for stories that cross too many genres to fit in any other category. I'm fairly certain that I've seen a three page story in that category a couple of times.

In short, it's all up to you :D

Dark,

Thanks. I was wondering if it makes it easier on the readers, or not. I think Lit does a pretty good job dividing the pages up to begin with. But, giving it some thought.

My experience is that readers prefer bite-sized chunks -- about 3 Lit pages is a decent ballpark. If you're writing something really long, it pays to break it up.

On the other hand, you have to let the story flow naturally. If trying to break it into chapters interrupts the flow, don't do it. Put it in there as a single submission. There are long story readers here. Not nearly as many as those looking for something quick to wank to, but they're out there.

So why are you here using an alt who has never published anything on Lit except your propaganda. Some idiots never learn to think before they post. Sorry scouries but there's only three of us who actually see your stupid posts and we all know better.

Techinically, it doesn't matter.

But I saw a story not too long ago in the novella section that looked like it was just above the bare minimume requirment you'd need to submit a story. That person got flammed in the comments section for being too short. I only clicked on that that story because it got the coveted Green E (editor's choice). So I don't think the editors mind if it's short.

Well...my votes have all petered off...apparently my story lost interest quickly LOL I have had like 3 votes in the past week and not a single comment on my first story, though my second one is getting a couple of votes every day...but still a very slow trickle...any ideas>
