Work (or lack of work) Woes

Granted, I had been at Target for about 10 years (worked it as a 2nd job for the health insurance, which they no longer offered to part time employees, but I was grandfathered in), but still.
Don't get me started on employers not offering health insurance to Pt employees
He would get up and go in at 5am, work almost 12 hours and come home and half the time get called in the middle of the night with a question. Ridiculous! I will never, ever work salaried. They literally almost worked him to death.
I can relate...i was in a similar situation minus the 5am and I burned out quick... my position was only for 1 yr and ended up staying 2 so when it ended I was so happy 😂...but I feel like I'm still recovering

You'll always have PTSD from it. 😂

I hate having to deal with Members of Parliament who totally fail to realise that the person that can get legislation changed is...them, not me! I'm just a civil servant. I implement your law, I don't make it.

I swear, I'd rather be back doing aircrash investigation than dealing with this particularly self-entitled realm of pond scum...

A coworker in another county told me when I got promoted and took a vacation before I started "Enjoy your last stress free vacation! From now on, you'll be too worried about what these people are f-ing up while you're gone to really enjoy yourself." She wasn't completely wrong. 😂
Holy shit - that's me as well! Can't take time off as I spend the time freaking out about the mess I will walk back into.

To be fair, it's not actually the fault of my staff. They go above and beyond - however, sometimes, someone needs to tell people in a very polite manner to go forth and fuck themselves.

I remain your most loyal and humble servant... :D

I don't think I've had a vacation in nearly 10 years where I haven't had to tote along my work laptop and be on call. I think the last time was 2013 when I went to Ireland. Couldn't take the corporate computer due to security restrictions.

They've even sent me off with a hotspot a couple of times to be sure that I had connectivity.

Two thirds of the time I'm probably not called, but the other third? Yep, they sure do.

And when nothing blows up, there's still responding to emails. Ahhh, the joys of essentially being on call 24x7. And being salaried.

When's retirement?
(If I added up all the comp hours I'd perhaps be another year closer!)

Basic job title. Description may be one or two brief paragraphs. NO mention of pay or hours. You call and ask, they refuse to disclose ...'we'll make an offer after a successful interview ...'

Do you pursue?

Unfortunately you have to. But the companies should understand when you turn down their offer because they are trying to undercut your qualifications. Recruiters reach out almost everyday asking for your resume and will not share even the job title, let alone compensation or job details… that’s the game we play, and our biggest weapon is to turn down ridiculous offers.

How awful would it be if I just made up some answers to behavioral interview questions? I really can't remember actual anecdotes for a lot of them 😬
Not awful at allm just think of something even family related and make it about work 😄

At this point of my life I don't pursue. If they're already hiding the ball it either means theirnpay is crap or they're sketchy on way or another.
Can I drop a resume here??
If you want feedback sure!

That's crap

Job postings or offers should include salary and benefits. It's the only way to ensure fairness and be sure everyone doing the same job is getting the same pay.

There is a push in that direction & I think it will come more quickly now that companies are hurting for workers. Colorado already requires jobs to put salary range in their description. And more states, including Massachusetts, are prohibiting employers from asking candidates about their past salary history.

I agree with you - it’s not fair. But the reality is that companies want you to name your price and then offer you less. I have read every single article about how to handle the “what’s your expected salary” question. There is nothing that works. There are laws in the making, some already in place, but even those are not enough. The laws are focusing on what you used to make, and your prospective employers access to that information.

In short, unless you know someone, it’s very difficult to find a good paying job you enjoy.

Yet another rejection. 😢
My sister is going through this as well at the moment. I just sent her a load of links to jobs she can apply for.

I’ve always found accessing the hidden job market a good tool for getting noticed by companies. There are so many people competing for each role that reaching out before vacancies are advertised can really get an individual noticed!

Don’t lose hope. You will get something!
