World of Sardon

For a moment, Lucifine resisted Maddox's arms coming around her with the towel, before she slowly eased into his embrace. The tension ran out of her as she relaxed and accepted this man's comfort. Despite Kallisto's warning, Lucifine knew he was a good man all the same.

"There was a man--a High Priest of the Night Mother called Marius" Lucifine started. "I was in love with him for the longest time, but because of my duties to the King's Guard, I knew I couldn't be with him and I never knew how he felt... Then Sardonica came and the temple fell. Marius and I were the last to defend the temple, and I think... I think he took an arrow for me. I didn't know that he loved me until he lay dying in my arms."

Lucifine's voice trembled, and quiet tears rolled down her cheeks.

"He told me he loved me before everything went dark..."

He was silent as he listened. There was not much that he could say here. It wasn't his place... He was not in the loop enough to offer any really good advice or comfort. But he knew that she was crying, he could smell her tears and he wanted so badly to make her feel better. "We're going to get her back... I promise..." He said as he ran his fingers through her hair.

It was then he heard some screams. "What the hell?" He asked though trailing off and heading outside. "That man... Something happened to him..." He said to Lucifine...

The way Maddox ran his fingers through her Lucifine's hair, calmed her greatly. She gestured to Tempest where her armor, and a fresh set of clothes sat.

"Tempest was Marius' blade. I was able to grab it when I lost Nyx before I woke up in the snow. I intend to bury it in Sardonica's heart."

It was then he heard some screams. "What the hell?" He asked though trailing off and heading outside. "That man... Something happened to him..." He said to Lucifine...

Lucifine's brow furrowed as she grudgingly broke away from the comfort of Maddox's arms and quickly dressed. She pulled on her gloves and hung Tempest at her side.

"Gods be good..." Lucifine murmured. "Let's go..."

He ran out into the cold night, well it was late evening but the sun was just barely setting, they had to run straight to the center of the city. He could hear her right behind him, his twin blades in their sheaths a comfy weight at his sides now. He came upon a scene that was certainly far from normal. The man seemed frozen...

"What the hell?" He asked. How could this happen? Kallisto seemed to be at a loss.

"Lucifine... You know ice magic right? How could... what would make this happen?"

The feeling in her chest, that cold pain from before, grew as Lucifine knelt to Falling. Her eyes suddenly glazed over and became pure white. Her breath came in visible puffs as the temperature dropped far below what it already was now.

Lucifine's mouth opened to speak but it was not her voice that came:

"Oh my love..." the Night Mother's voice echoed sadly from Lucifine. "Through me, you've felt the pain of this woman's loss and lived the death of her beloved, Marius..."

A possessed Lucifine bent to Falling and kissed him softly as cold fire ran from her to him.

"Come back to me, my beloved..." The Night Mother murmured against his lips.

Kallisto and Maddox looked at one another, both shrugged before watching the scene unfolding before them. Kallisto had no idea, not that Maddox had any other idea floating through his brain, as to what was going on. All they knew was that this was not the woman that they had both been talking to.

Maddox and Kallisto's eyes bulged slightly at that. Maddox was annoyed that he had not been able to kiss the beautiful woman and... and Kallisto was not angry or jealous... just confused as all hell.

"Lucifine?" She asked hoping to draw the real woman back. "What's going on?" She asked.

Dorin arrives in E'sari...

One by one, Dorin and his men faded in from their mist-walk. The jaunt was easily done since Kaelis left the name of their destination behind...

He motioned for his men to fan out once more and he bounded up between trees with an almost unnatural agility. There was a commotion in the city--Dorin could sense it. He drew his bow and knocked an arrow...

In the center, there were people gathering, and he smiled at the chaos he was about to unleash...

<OOC> Maddox is annoyed--poor Lucifine! :(

<IC>

The Night Mother looked up at the young changeling.

"Lucifine..." the goddess said. "Is that the name of the vessel which carries my Shard?"

The goddess looked down at Lucifine's arms

"Though I am a shadow of my former self, this body... it cannot sustain me. The priest was unwise to put the shard in such an untrained body!"

Lines of black frost bite started to spider web from her wrists and creep up her arms... The white of Lucifine's eyes faded back to blue, and she stared, wide-eye and fearful at Maddox, as she shook.

"Help me..." Lucifine whispered.

Kallisto was not paying attention and maybe that was why she didn't feel the danger... maybe that was why she didn't hear the arrow until it was too close to do anything but pray it missed. And while she managed to move Maddox found himself injured, nothing serious but pretty damned painful that was for sure.

"Gods be damned..." He swore as he looked at the wound. Kallisto already had her bow and arrow out, knotched, and flying right back into the trees. She didn't hear a scream so she figured she must have missed. She swore.

"Lucifine, get inside, take Falling with you. Maddox, sound the horn!" She shouted as she fired again, in a different spot. She heard a pained shot which earned a smile. "Come on you cowards..." She said to herself as she took aim again. She couldn't see them but she could ear them... barely over the noise of panicked civilians.

Dorin

Dorin saw with his keen eye from his perch, Lucifine! He smiled as he took aim at the woman who was former King's Guard.

She has no man to shield her now... he smirked.

To his dismay, Sardonica likely wanted Lucifine alive so she could have the pleasure of ripping the shard out of the woman's chest herself. Though it displeased him to only wound, he let his arrow fly.

Sardonica did indeed want to rip that shard out and listen to the pained cries of the woman that she would send down to hell. But he could rough her up a little if he liked. 'Don't forget to find my fallen brother...' She reminded before leaving him to deal with the issues of actually getting the job done.

Kallisto heard that arrow and she could see where it was intended. She pushed the shorter woman away and found that she had been grazed by the arrow. "Run now!" She yelled. She stared far at the forest. "Gotcha..." She said spotting someone before releasing her arrow. Let it hit...

Dorin cursed as the changeling knocked aside *his* prey, and watched as her arrow sailed past him and struck one of his men. He fell out of the tree, dead when he hit the ground.

She'll regret that!

Dorin bounded down from his perch in the trees and drew Wrack and Scourge as he made his way to Kallisto

'That's his priestess...' Sardonica said suddenly... 'His scent is all over her...' She growled. 'He's gathering people to regain his power...' She was just thinking to him now. 'Show me how loyal you are...' she whispered to him.

She would leave it up to him how to prove it... she figured a bloodbath would be his first choice.

Kallisto noticed that many of the archers were not as trained as she was. The men on her side were dropping like flies. She heard banging at the gates and suddenly the wood cracked. "Leave the city!" She shouted hoping that people would do as she told them to.

Lucifine ran with Falling as she drew Tempest, but stopped abruptly as Dorin's black cloaks emerged and pressed their way in from the forest. They drew their own black blades and closed in.

"Damn it!" Lucifine swore.

She took a deep breathe and focused on the cold around her...

"Tempest" she said in old Korinthian, "Howl!"

With the flick of her wrist, razor shards of ice bristled up Tempest's blade and the blade itself became long and whip like. There was a crack in the air, like glass breaking, and Lucifine lashed out at Dorin's men.

Tempest cut through armor, flesh, and bone and men fell bloody before her.

Dorin smiled. A priestess of Maximus--how lovely. He finessed his way around the rebel fighters and Wrack and Scourge drank their fill as he pushed towards Kallisto. One moment he was there in plain sight and the next he was gone like a ghost. When he managed to get himself behind the changeling archer, Wrack was at her pretty throat...

Maddox knew that now was not the time to question anything as he ran and sounded the alarm for backup. But then he saw Lucifine and couldn't help but run to her aid. Not that it seemed the she needed any at that point. "Call your horse..." He said calmly as he took the deity. "We need to get out of here..."

He was trying not to wince at the pain in his shoulder. Damn arrow. Why couldn't they just fight with swords?

I remember...

I see her, even though I know it is only a dream...

She kisses me, and it is so very different -- and yet the same.

Strength flows through me, like I almost forgot.

Power courses through me, and I remember...

I blink my eyes, and am greeted by light... Shouts and screams... Chaos.

Much happened in the short time after I fell -- both from the Heavens and after I felt the cold through my heart.

I had to learn so very much, but now, all of a sudden, I know a lot more. That kiss... It gave me knowledge I need; it helped me remember what it was like to be a god...

Although still weak, I awaken, and sense those who aided me during my weakness are in grave danger.

I see the WolfGirl... She is very beautiful, and in her element. She is a battlefield commander, and though very young, she is capable and has potential to become a great leader someday.

The elf-man. So much sorrow will befall that one... So much tragedy.

The IceWoman... There is something... familiar about her. Was she the one who kissed me? I thought it was Wolfgirl Kallisto?

No, only IceWoman's body kissed me. Something--- someone else kissed me.

Arrows. I remember them. I had worshippers who devised an art to counter arrows... They called it "Yadomejutsu" in their language... Arrow-Cutting. Now, I remember that, too, for that was my gift to my worshippers back then.

Thoughts enter my mind... An assassin leads the attackers, and he wishes to kill me and... the IceWoman? But why?

The wolf was busy now trying to get rid of someone of the stupid Goddess' men but there were way too many. it was then she spotted a man moving through the battlefield.

Kallisto had figured, when he had disappeared like that, that one of her men had gotten him but then there was the cold steel at her throat. She frowned and knew better than to thrash around. It just wasn't smart and why get her throat cut trying to escape right now.

"Bastard..." She growled.

Lucifine whistled sharply as she cut into more black cloaks. Snow stirred and took shape into the snow horse that Lucifine rode before...

The assassin threatens my Chosen, and this angers me greatly.

I struggle out of the elf-man's grasp, and make my way towards Kallisto Wolfgirl and her captor.

"You threaten my Chosen," I say to the dark-garbed man. "Let her go now, assassin, and I will spare you."

He was secretly glad that the horse was so big. Lucifine was up and he was quick to get the deity, who seemed to have awoken, up on the horse as well. Falling was nestled safetly between the woman and the man. "Let's go Lucifine!" He said and had to grab a hold of the woman before him.

"Come on... Kallisto will be fine she can handle herself..." He said as he kicked the horse sending it running away with the three on it.

"One nick from my blade, godling, and she'll be undone... I wouldn't chance it, if I were you..."

Her head tilted back and half turned to look into his eyes. Her normally bright amber gold eyes were very dark right now. She knew that she would have to do.

"I'd rather die..."

She took his hand and pressed it harder against her neck.

Wrack pressed into Kallisto's soft neck like a lover's kiss and drew a small ribbon of blood

Dorin wasn't prepared for such self sacrifice and found himself somehow in awe of the young woman who he held in his arms.

such devotion...

And the poison spread...

It hurt... But she wasn't focused on the pain. She was listening to her heart beating. It wasn't racing... why wasn't it racing? Shouldn't she have been scarred? Or worried? Why... how could she be so calm in the face of death.

"Falling... You are not up to your full power..." She said. "You are still mortal... If we don't get you back to power who can help us with the Goddess?" She asked. "Go with Lucifine..." She pleaded.
