I like shrimp and most people I know think it's disgusting.

Yorkshire pud!
Eff, that's one of the first things I want to have, never come across it here.

Perdita :)

p.s. to whomever: I don't get okra, but I love asparagus and any kind of eggplant dish.

Another thing I love that people seem to hate is bread pudding. I make it with raisin bread and lots of yummy spices.

*drool*.......................deeeeeeeeelishus.

Send me over some.

Yorkshire pud. Easiest thing in the world to make. But you can even buy them ready made and frozen now.

Okra........asparagus........egg plant (call them aubergine over here).......all quite disgusting. I spent too long living with a vegetarian who loved all these. No. Thank. You.

Shrimp (called Prawns over here......shrimps are like tiny inch long versions of the prawns).........adore them. They were my craving while carrying my second son. They are his favourite food.

Recipes for disaster ...

Looky looky, a cookin' horse. (And not one stuck on a barbecue).

Perdita:

Very easy, yorky pud. Put your oven on mediumish (350 degrees or about gas mark 5 or 6) and put your dish in with couple of tablespoons of fat - I use half olive oil and half butter.

Mix together equal volumes of milk, eggs, and plain flour. Add seasoning if you like - I like thyme and sage, or now and then a little cayenne.

When the fat is hot, pour in the batter and bake. The two-eggs ones I make usually take about 15 minutes. Just peek, it won't hurt. You'll get a feel for it.

(Thank you very much Ready, Steady, Cook for that one. Works a charm.)

Scarlett:

Might I suggest, for the shrimp, marinating them in coconut milk, minced fresh hot pepper, lime juice, coconut, and chopped fresh cilantro? I left mine a couple of hours and then grilled them. Damned guests ate them all, but the few I tasted were good.

Oh thanks you guys, great shrimp idears. I could really go for some biscuits and gravy right about now. :)

Howsa bout biscuits and scrapple instead?:D

Since I live mostly on nutritional supplements, I have very few recipies.

However, I do make egg-white and bran pancakes to keep some roughage in my system.

:( I used to live on a yoga boot camp diet consisting of various smoothies, shakes, supplement, etc. Yeah, I looked great, but being faced with my dad's cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pecan pie at Easter snapped me right out of it. :)

Mmmm bring them my way. Although actually gravy might be the better match ... I like my scrapple with rye toast.

I love biscuits and I can't make them worth crap. Anyone know how? Carson, I would even settle for a recipe for 50 pounds of biscuit dough.

Sensible lass.

Damn, this is making me hungry.

Biscuits I can do in small quantities. But ya know what? Those Pillsbury frozen ones that you put on a pan and bake? They're just as good. :)

Mac & cheese with hamburger, cream of mushroom soom and a healthy dash of Dave's Insanity Sauce.

I make great scratch biscuits, but usually I just used the canned ones due to time constraints and hatred of cleaning up.

But, if you want scratch biscuits like my mom insists I make for her, here's a good recipe:

Traditional Southern Biscuits

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons butter, cold
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening, cold
1 cup milk

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well. Add 1 tablespoon of the cold butter and the cold shortening and work it into the dry ingredients, using your hands, until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk. The dough will be sticky. Dust your work surface with some flour. Turn the dough onto the floured surface. Gently fold each side toward the center. Pick up the dough and dust the work surface with additional flour. Return the dough to the floured surface and fold each side towards the center again. Turn the dough over and press it out to 1-inch thickness. Cut the biscuits, straight down, do not twist the cutter, with a 2 1/4-inch round cookie cutter. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter and add to a 10-inch round cake pan. Place the biscuits in the pan, turning once (to coat both sides with butter), about 1/4-inch apart. Let the biscuits rest for 15 minutes before baking. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

Oh yeah, I'm Martha Stewart with a riding crop. ;)

I used to make this great marble rum cake that everybody always loved. I made the mistake of bringing it to a coffee social thingy at my boyfriends's church, and not one person even tried it except for my bf and me.

Teetotalers.

Not as bad as when I asked for a glass of wine at his parents' house... "Oh, you're a drinker."

Holy crap! Is that my recipe? I've been looking for it for Shang all morning. Down to the "do not twist the cutter!"

However I like to make mine in a cast iron skillet. Crunchy bottoms, yummy. Also, my recipe specifies, knead no more than like, 5 times.

CRAB CAKES! Sorry to tease you all. I made a huge platter of delicious crab cakes and they so rule, but my family refuses to eat them. I'm so annoyed. I'd eat them all myself, but I'm on a diet.

What do you love that everyone else hates? Or what can you make that totally kicks ass? Feel free to hijack this thread for random food comments. :)

Crab cakes? Damn - I'd eat them all. I make escargot which people at parties love or hate. Otherwise, I am an amazing cook, and at the end of a hosted party, ain't nothing left :) which sucks for me doing all the cooking. :(

Thanks to you both, then. I will try them out as soon as possible.

Yeah, buttermilk and a cast iron pan, I sometimes do it that way too. No, this isn't Carson's recipe, I nicked it from Tyler Florence(drool). They're not as good as Carson's mommy's biscuits, but damn near. :)

I've frozen the crab cakes and made my bf a goddamned chicken salad which he scarfed down. It must've been good, he wasn't bitching.

Ok I think that you are all officially considered WEIRD now so I'm going to laugh and smile and...go! :)D )
