Young Justice: Outsiders (OOC)

Sounds good, Tighty. I'll try and get my post up once I get home. It's such a hassle typing on my.phone because my fingers are fat and these keys are so tiny and I make a lot.of typos, lol.

Oh, and I did want to say that Psimon can't generate energy from nothing, in case you thought that's what I was saying. He essentially turns chemical energy from his body into kinetic energy by directing it to increase the motion of atoms and their subatomic particles. The same way a normal person turns chemical energy from food into kinetic energy by running.

Of course we don't KNOW whether it's possible -- do we have any records of someone actually psychically creating energy? But there is a lot of potential energy all around us. For instance, if you put hydrogen atoms under enough pressure that they fuse into helium, it releasing an enormous burst of energy. That's how a clump of gas and dust becomes a star. It grows so massive that the force of gravity begins fuses hydrogen into helium.

Well later on your clarify. But yes, we are fairly certain that it's not possible period. Assuming Relavity is still standing energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. Which is fancy talk for energy and mass are ultimately the same shit and since mass can be neither be created nor destroyed simply changed from one state to another yeah. Utterly impossible by our current understanding of science.

But you do cover this later.

Sorry guys, I meant to post last night and got caught up doing something else. I promise one today. I'm going to have M'gann arrive right about now, to chaos and confusion of course. She'll see Psimon fling Lady K across the room, sense him manipulating the genomorphs, and try and go after him. Sound good :)?

LOL. I just barely got on myself and will be asleep as soon as I manage to catch up which is taking a frustrating amount of time.

Nah that's got nothing to do with fat fingers. Nothing worthwhile (aside from 50 Shades of Grey if judged on monetary gains as I've yet to read it) was ever typed with ones thumbs. It's a painfully clumsy way to function.

LOL. FAT THUMBS! You meant didn't! :p

I was simply commenting I'm very rarely interested in any serious way about the science other than occasional curiosity and occasionally clarifying details on what makes this guy different from that guy.

I'm going to beat the dead horse one more time before I fix breakfast and let them dismember the poor animal and melt him down for glue.

I'm not saying there isn't potential energy out there to be tapped. And if Psimon converts that energy so that it can move enough air around to pick up a full-sized woman and move her any significant amount of distance, it should take a significant concentration of psionic energy, to convert that potential energy (is that weak force? high school physics is so long ago!) into something that can push around enough air mass to lift a grown woman off her feet. To use your body converting food into energy argument, there's a significant difference in the energy it takes me to type out my occasionally coherent statements, versus the energy it will take me to take a pair of dumbbells off the rack and do some bicep curls.

And I do know that the air around us is in a constant Brownian motion. But I think there's a significant difference in motion and energy displayed by normal air movement in a closed environment versus a gale strength blast.

I guess what I'm saying is I have no problem with Psimon using his talent to move air (and thus, Lady K) from point A to point B, but if he does it with just a flick of his wrist and not even a second thought, he is definitely wasting his time playing shepherd to a mass of genetic experiments.

I mean my on-screen keys are smaller on this Kyocera than the Windows Phone I'm used to. Plus this touchscreen is slightly smaller. And I did mean "did" in that post, lol. Read it again and you'll see it makes sense ;).

And Gypsy, one thing you also have to remember about Psimon is that he was a normal person who was bestowed his powers by Trigon. The transformation expanded his mind to perceive energies around him and to send his neural pulses wirelessly to manipulate them. But that power takes a toll on his body, which is why he appears to have physical "Sith Corruption." And while sending out blasts does take some concentration, also keep in mind he's not exactly using a normal human brain to focus.

Be that as it may, it's not "free" energy out there, waiting like the proverbial low hanging fruit ready to be plucked. It takes energy going into a system to produce energy coming out of a system, and it takes quite a bit of energy to move a mass of air around to the extent that a fifty plus kilogram woman gets lifted off her feet. Now me, I've already got a one liner ready for when Lady K picks herself up out of the rubble when the wind blast happens. All I'm saying is that, if Psimon does that with the negligible wave of the hand while he walks on to his real target, rather than focusing his will and attention on the effort, it would be the psionic equivalent of hooking Superman up to chains so he can move the planet.

Still, I do really want to see a Sith Lord move against Lady K!

Well I didn't say free energy, now did I ;). I already said his own bioelectricity "sparks" the effect. If a man can lift Lady K off the ground by sending pulses along his nerves to his arms and hands to pick her up or push her backwards, then there is no reason Psimon can't do the same thing "wirelessly" by releasing a blast of energy towards her. A shockwave with minimal force can knock someone over, such as from a sonic boom. Thunder can sometimes rattle windows with minimal sound waves.

That being said, he certainly would not be doing it effortlessly, its just that the effort is taking place within his mind and he is processing a lot of information very rapidly. To him, manipulating energy is like second nature, but there is still a lot of thinking and focusing involved internally, it just happens so fast and so frequently that it might appear effortless to a non-psychic.

Though, if it makes you feel better, I can say he also taps into the energy of Earth's magnetic field to fling things away as if they were magnets repelling.

Okay enough everybody, back to your corners. Jeff get this bitch rolling again. I only posted Ben because he kinda needed to go but Star now I'm more or less "locked down." As is nearly everybody.

Of course, that begs the question is there enough ferrous material to be affected, and how much force has to be exerted. And Magneto had to focus on his efforts, he couldn't just wave a hand and keep on moving. :D

As to the lightning bolt example, that is true, windows do rattle if there's a strike nearby. That's a billion joules of energy in close proximity causing a shock wave; that still has to be pretty close before the energy dissipates to the point it wouldn't rattle glass. Which means there would be an even higher energy requirement to keep the shock wave going over a greater length, and in a focused area.

Now, as far as differing levels of mental effort, I know it requires less mental effort (thank Heavens!) for me to maneuver my way to the kitchen in the morning, then it would for me to do an obstacle run. If I say something in English or Spanish, I can do so with relative ease, but if I wanted to say something in French, for example, I would have to either pause to remember something I learn in class ten years ago, or Google it. With Psimon, I assume the effort with Superboy and the Geomorphs was relatively simply. Open the truck, spike their orbital frontal cortex, and let the games begin! Peek in once in a while to make sure everybody's pointed in the right direction, but otherwise just sit back, relax, and enjoy the fear and panic emanating from the crowd (which I understand is one of Psimon's favorite pastimes anyway). Having to move air, and a heck of a lot of it, because you can't directly manipulate somebody, has to be a different category all together, requiring a conscious, concentrated effort, sort of like the difference between using a language you use every day, and one that you learned in college a decade ago.

But, as I said, I have no objection to the action itself, only the level of concentration I thought it would require. This is your barbeque, though, so I will be happy with whatever is served, and respond in accordance to the nature of my character.

Which at that point starts raising different questions. Would Psymon be pushing a "wall" or "bubble so to speak? It matters because I can push a car down the block. I'll hate life but I can do it. I can not push the volume of a car in helium baloons around because you know two hands, dozens of balloons lots are simply going to get away. It's the difference between raw power and manipulating lots of objects.

My dad's car died, so it took me a while to actually get home and get comfy. My post will be coming shortly. I ended up walking home from where the car died, which was about 40 minutes of walking through hell because it was so hot. I was soaking wet with sweat by the time I walked in the door, so I stripped off my clothes as I went and headed straight for a cold shower, lol. I wanted to relax a bit before writing anything, so I leaned back in my chair, ate a bowl of cereal, and watched a couple episodes of BoJack Horseman on Netflix, lol.

Well, it's not moving the air itself so much as gathering energy from the particles that compose the air and then directing that energy towards something. And a normal person might have to put forth more effort to use a language they learned a decade ago, but what about someone with a photographic memory? Someone who has a mind powerful to remember every sound, smell, image, and feeling they have ever experienced? In Psimon's case, he does not perceive the world in the same manner we do, but almost similar to Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen. He can observe energies around us that most people require machines to detect.

Sending an energy wave that is powerful enough to knock a normal sized person back is really not that remarkable. Now if Superman was running at him full-force and he blasted him back, then that would be some serious shit. In that case Psimon would likely just use the kinetic energy Superman is creating by running to tweak his trajectory slightly so Supes misses his target or something.

In the case of Lady K, she is already in motion towards Psimon in a lunge, so she is already gathering kinetic energy as she nears him. He just has to knock her slightly off course. Through his vision, he can "see" the kinetic energy she generates as she moves, and he can see a trail of body heat essence left behind her from where she just was. Similar to how birds can sense Earth's magnetic field.

Though if Lady K was standing still on the ground and Psimon wanted to lift her up and fling her back without directly controlling her body, he would be putting forth an effort, but it would be so quick that it would appear effortless to a non-psychic observer. Like how it might take me fucking forever to solve a complex math problem but someone like Stephen Hawking might do the calculations in mere seconds.

There's a lot of kinetic energy in the room from all the movement and fighting, and there is a lot of heat energy from elevated body temperatures, again from the fighting. For Psimon to direct a wave of energy to knock a normal-sized person back with enough force to send them flying -- if viewed in super slow motion -- would probably look like him telepathically causing atoms directly in front of him to vibrate fiercely and then spin rapidly into a sphere shape, kind of like how Goku powers up a Kamehameha or Ryu using the Hadouken, but instead of drawing the energy completely from inside himself like Goku and Ryu, he is drawing it from the atoms and the kinetic energy of their motion.

Think of someone swinging a ball on a string over their head and then letting it go. Psimon is gathering this energy very quickly into a sphere-shaped space and then projecting it forwards. As soon as he releases it, it is no longer contained in the sphere and rushes out in a wave. At that point, he is no longer controlling it, just as the person letting the ball on the string go. He gathers the energy and then releases it, and it spreads out in the direction he pointed it.

Now, gathering enough energy to send Lady K flying can be done extremely quickly, though the energy itself will not harm her, just push her physical body away from Psimon. If he wanted to, say, vaporize her with a blast, then he would need to power up for a sustained period of time. But deflecting someone who is lunging at you will be like a reflex to Psimon. Second nature. Just like a master martial artist can think and react a lot faster than a normal person.

But don't worry, I'm not going to portray it like Lady K is a push-over who Psimon can bat away like a fly. I'll make the post awesome :).

Just deflecting her? Yeah, that makes more sense, considering the immediacy of the situation, and the fact that situation would require reactive, rather than proactive measures. Still, I was looking forward to Lady K pulling herself out of the rubble, spitting blood and muttering Vous êtes un dur à cuire . Je me suis battu plus solide. before charging at him again. Well, another time, mon ami!

Well, there are ways to achieve that :). You'll see. I'm making some final touches, probably rewrote one paragraph a millions times, kept backspacing and redoing it, lol. I should have it done pretty quickly.

The days you hate being a stupid American include when you think a real place with real problems is no more real than Latveria and Springfield and when you realize you may need a Rosetta Stone or at least. . .what was that? Muzzy? To help you gather appreciate the pure genious of one of your fellow players. "Je me suis battu plus solide" My one semester of French 19 years ago tells me this must be similar to "I am _____ very solid probably meaning tough in context." That other part. . .Well if Lady Chocolate taught me anything beyond Christina Aguliara, Pink Mya and Kim look great in lingerie it's that Vous has something to do with you. I mean that song is won't you come to bed with me right?! So 'you. . .yeah that's as far as my dumb ass can get without looking it up.

:(

Maybe when I finish brushing up on my math with free online courses I should try to learn a language or three. As it stands I speak American, Profanity, Low Grade Geek and Angrish.

I'm lifting Thor's line, Sean :)

Basically, it's "You're tough. Fought tougher." And considering Katherine's time period and her upbringing, I'd figure she'd be using vous instead of tu.

And, unlike Katherine, most of my Italian is from my music major friends! :) Though I have a close friend whose father is Italian and mother is Serbian, so I get an interesting language lesson there! :)

I find that this works really well on the fly. So that you copy and paste what she typed and see that your initial assumptions are mostly correct.

Google says she said, "You are a tough guy. I fought stronger." How close is that, Lady K/GypsyGirl?

I'd probably use fort if I was talking about strength, rather than toughness, but the meaning gets across :) And I'm relying on textbooks and dictionaries from ten years ago, so my accuracy is questionable at best! :)

After a fucking million rewrite and redoing the scene, I just went ahead and post what I had. I left it open so you can decide how Lady K is effected by the lightning, Gypsy. Whether she shields it or Brillig jumps in front of it or whatever. Also feel free to control Psimon if you want to do a little back and forth.

Dammit, now I do have to think about how she's affected by lightning! LOL! And back and forth dialogue, back and forth combat, or back and forth both?

Working on my post right now, quick question Jeff, M'gann has been living with J'onn the last few months, and as such would have been coming to the ball as a result of family connections, as such he would be there or be on the way there with her. Is there anything else going on there? Otherwise why wouldn't Manhunter get involved? And how come the rest of the League hasn't gotten involved apparently?

Mostly physical actions, but you can throw in a little dialogue if you want ;).

The League is there, including Manhunter. They have been referenced to in some posts, included the one I just did today. They were also likely doing things in the background, but the focus was on our main characters.
