Just in case you didn't notice that was my last posting for the night. Haiku went completely out of my mind cuz I had to go... do laundry... yeah, that was it... laundry... something to do with bed sheets and stuff... yeah!

At least one of us got some laundry done.

Thank you for the nice comments, btw. The next three should be a bit longer, and have been more of a challenge; I hope they receive as favorable a review.

Sometimes the short ones are the hardest to write-- so much pressure to say what you need to say without the luxury of going on and on...

Yours were perfect for their forms. There are a lot of other great New Poems out today too! I have to pace myself and make sure I spend more time reading them :) I get very inspired that I can do it I can do it when I read all of those who are doing it so well.

Question: Will the stanzaic forms be defined? I've already ventured, albeit without moderator guidance, to post a poem written in my conception of ottava rima. It would be nice if ballad, blank verse, couplet, ottava rima, rubaiyat, and terza rima would be clearly defined, as the contest definitions are those that I assume will rule.

It's very hard to write to a form that's undefined, n'est pas?

mais oiu!

I was just kind of glad they were undefined down there, unthreatening... un-accessible... but you are grooving right through the lists.

I think that if you use credible sources, you can venture out on your own with these forms. You appear to know what you are doing as well as anyone and surely anything you put together as ballad, couplet, etc. would be accepted and enjoyed without the official literotica definitions.

There will be definitions very very very soon. You people give me no rest! :D

I thought, by definition, there was no rest for the wicked. Both the Old Testament and Ozzy Osbourne agree on this point, so its veracity must be beyond dispute. I would think Literoticians are hardly to blame.

I agree that it is, but ...

it also is the only reason any of the rest of us are within hailing distance of you, so I personally am not going to complain.

I have myself been playing with a rubaiyat, but have hesitated to post it yet for the same reason.

I really really really strongly strongly strongly feel that a new set of triggers needs to be developed for the second round.

I cannot imagine writing two (or three) poems about old ladies feeding birds, lesbian counter attacks and pillow/clown/cynical word combinations.

My proposal is when one survivor poet approaches the magical 50 number... lets say submits #40, all active participants (say over 10 poems) may submit new triggers. Each active participant should be able to contribute an equal number of triggers to be used in round 2.

I think this would be a good incentive to chug through the first round-- to be able to have some say in the triggers, to know you would be writing about something you want to write about. It would also be a challenge because you would also have to stretch in the direction of the other writers and their interests and you would have to really contemplate what you want to write about in coming up with your trigger contributions.

I know that the rules were pre-set in the challenge. I honestly did not think too much about round 2 because I did not see myself finishing round 1, but looking at the pace of some writers, round 2 is not so far in the future.

All writers who finish round 2 should be able to contribute to the round 3 triggers when the leader is done #40 of round 2 and so on)

Actually, I can see writing more than one poem with the same triggers. I actually think it would push me to use the triggers creatively. But, I understand your concern. Some of the triggers will be much more difficult to use twice.

But, really, there are multiple perspectives and numerous possibilities for each poem. I've been keeping that in mind as I write. Like asking myself, if I had to write another one with this prompt, what would it be about? My poem The Black Russian is an example, cuz I wrote it about Perle Mesta, the original "hostess with the mostes" who inspired a bartender to create the Black Russian. If I have to write another one with that prompt, I may write it about the drink itself or create a character who drinks them..
You see what I mean?

The ones that have the title of the poem will be impossible to use twice as you cannot have poems or stories with the same title. It won't let you submit it. I imagine that can be solved by adding an article in front of the title on some.

I absolutely see what you mean, and certainly have always agreed with these points you present. I know it is not impossible, just not as appealing as starting with new triggers. Some would be easy to do again.

I think if we are going to churn out LOTS of poems over the year, like 50 every two months, then a change at some point would be needed. But I certainly think we might be able to go through at least two rounds with the same sets of triggers, and possibly three. That would cut down on the work of coming up with new triggers every 45 days.

Yes, I agree with this. It certainly gets more challenging the second time through, and moreso a third, but I can see possibilities at least for a couple more attempts on these. It just requires thinking a lot harder about what the trigger actually could convey.

For example, my Lesbian counter attacks poem is about a football match on the Greek isle of Lesbos. I could imagine a sit-in strike at a diner going bad, or a debate at a town meeting ... or girl-on-girl sex! Or the baby pictures one which I have already done ... I think the next time I will write about a Jewish photographer who took baby photos of Hitler, and is being stormed by the SS. So there are possibilities ... so long as these are only triggers to inspiration, and very flexible.

I think tougher to do will be the perspective poems ... three poems on the view from a speck of dust. But the setting of dust can change, of course, and that changes the poem. Still, some of them will REALLY get old by the third time through, I think.

OK, I will think about this some more and come up with something. I confess I hadn't thought about the problem with the same title poems. I didn't expect things to be going as smoothly and with such great results either. I thought that if two or three people made it through all 25 forms and 50 triggers into a second round, it would have been a good run already. :D
