2023 "Tales of Leinyere" Story Event: Official Support Thread

"Number One, get the Port on the sonic and tell them that bloody dragon is stirring up trouble again."

Yep. That works. 😁
I love it! The same could be done with turning a “farspectral crystal” into a “farspeck” and then “specks”

In my mind, my first story was set roughly in 1890. It sounds like your's is a few years later. Maybe your farspeck is the equivalent to a tv?

Which has given me another idea. Autolandaus are more common, and the Fire Mage guild has figured out how to keep a self sustaining fireball going for about 2 hours. They have set up recharging shops along the major routes, but if you need to go off them, you can hire a Mage to travel with you. A nerdy virgin Mage is hired by an aristocratic woman from Giltans Port because he's the only one available. I'm sure there's a story there somewhere. 😁

Oh, and the stops are called -

I’m thinking a farsonic is like a magical combination of telephone and radio. You can get broadcast programming, or use it for private two-way audio. A farspeck would be the same but including real-time visual images, so like a combo tv and early Zoom. And yes, I think I’ll put it forty or fifty years after yours. It’s actually not for a story, per se. It’s for a couple of audio scripts. One is a pastiche of a phone sex ad, but fantasy-ized. So, I needed a way to not just invent telephones.

I love your story idea, by the way! I wonder what they’ll get up to on the road???

No one's named those mountains on the west coast yet, have they? I don't find a name anywhere. I'm thinking of naming them The Dragon's Spine.

The Snowy Mountains in the SW? I was planning to give them an Anocot name for my story.

I’m talking about the same range, but up around Grennesh. It probably makes sense to have two, right? Especially if one’s an anocot name?

I happened on this thread and all of your terrific material by chance. This looks like a lot of fun. I have been wanting to do some kind of a fantasy story. Even though I enjoy reading them I have never tried to write one and the few times I have started have not really been very successful. But you have already provided many of the important parameters, so if you do not object I may try to contribute. I am actually a (retired) scholar of the ancient world, with a particular focus on religion and on death rites. So I might try to create something that stays in your parameters but expands to include some of the things I know something about. I haven't seen anything in your materials (well yet, haven't read everything yet) about an afterlife, like Hades. Or spirits inhabiting the realm. Is there a god or goddess of the afterlife? Anyway, I am just thinking out loud. I will study this a little more carefully. Thanks :)

Wonderful! Please do write something! I don't believe we have anything so far about spirits, although there have been a few enchanted weapons written about that have held pieces of the souls of mortals. Kitara and The Wood Knot Warrior are two stories that come to mind.
As for religion and death rites, the only god or goddess that seems to specifically death with death is Abasis, who has a story written mentioning her by @pan_paniscus
I'm sure your contribution will be wonderful, and I'm looking forward to it!

@Rustyoznail Do you any kind of notes on the anocot language? Or a process for determining anocot words? I was considering writing an audio script where an anocot gives someone a language lesson in the anocot tongue, and it turns dirty...

Ooh, and I know this is a thorny one, but pronunciation...

@Nouh_Bdee - From my previous story

Gll - "Lead on. I don’t mind. We’re pretty curious ourselves, and being direct is also one of our traits. Like Eikclav - Laketown, is right next to Cir Eik - Deep Lake. None of those fancy Elvish place names. No offence to you…”

So "The Dragon's Spine" will be known as "Tall Snowy Mountains". Hacc Herm Domor. A hill is a Dom.

Other words so far
Cir- Deep
Eik - Lake
Clav - Town
Rrm - New
Wite - Port
Fscil - First
Sll - Road
Ft - to
Hskan - penis
Rrkan - vagina

I imagine an Anocot's mouth doesn't move the same way as humans so their language is more from the back of the throat or hisses.

Hope that helps.

This is awesome! Thank you! So is “-or” and intensifier? Kinda like that opposite of a Spanish “-ita” or “-ito”?
I’ll make up a google doc with a little anocot glossary!

I hadn't really thought too much about language last time out, but what you suggest sounds reasonable. Sll is a road, Sllor is a highway. Only used for inanimate objects they had before they migrated to Leinyere. If Anocot's found a new object that had a name in the Common tongue, they'd use that. They're pragmatic - not like the French. 🤣

I love it!
Here's the glossary. I'll be updating it with what I use as I go. Thanks!

Good lookin’ out, Russ!

What would be the funniest/best word to sound very similar to the word for "genitals" in the anocot language?
As in:
"Oh, I think you mean *Katn*, which is ______, but you said *Kan*, which means genitals"

Good pick up... @Nouh_Bdee ?
That was the first option I had. It’s a language lesson, he’s telling her what anocot he already knows, like how to ask how you are, how to ask for a restroom, how to order a steak…
Except he doesn’t say “I’d like to eat a steak”…
I like it but don’t love it, so I posted here
