2023 "Tales of Leinyere" Story Event: Official Support Thread

That was the first option I had. It’s a language lesson, he’s telling her what anocot he already knows, like how to ask how you are, how to ask for a restroom, how to order a steak…
Except he doesn’t say “I’d like to eat a steak”…
I like it but don’t love it, so I posted here
That’s the bit that makes the conversation turn sexual

Oh, and I've established in my first story Anocots don't normally do oral. Putting your hskan between the teeth of a highly excited rrcot is not a good idea.

(Rrcot - female Anocot. Hscot - male Anocot)

Okay! I think I might have a plot!

Count me in. I'm returning to the Marches to see what kinds of shenanigans I can find: a fugitive, misfit couple flees toward Giltan's Port and... well, something happens to them.

Done. 21,478 words. It'll be called "Six Rings and a Pendant." A paladin and an escaped slave find adventure, intrigue, and lust on the roads of Whitelinen Dale. Timeframe-wise, it would be a loose sequel to the piece I wrote last year.

Fun to write!

Yeah, I had the need of a few more gods for my story, but I'm loath to add to the pantheon; I just shoehorned the existing ones into my needs.

Like I adapted the god of trade to incorporate travel. Seemed logical. As in, "May Egan bless your comings and goings," that sort of thing.

But I did realize that we lack a "king/queen of the gods," oddly. I'm not sure it's necessary, but it's just something I noticed.

Wow nice! Mine is still only bubbly idea in my head.

Yeah, I agree with Rusty. I think something Lovecraftian in style would be great, but I think we would want more of a Cthulhu-Like than specifically Cthulhu. Fully opening up Leinyere to the Multiverse sounds like it would dilute the world. If you want to write about Cthulhu, what about doing it in this world makes it better?

I actually like the idea of a dearth of authority among the gods. I wrote Cuvehr in my story as being focused on his thing (sex) and not really caring about much else, and I feel like a leader of the gods would have to care a little bit about everything, and that just makes them more boring to me. I don't know, though. If anybody wants to make one, I say go for it!

That's the only story I've got finished so far: the one from last year that almost no one read because I submitted it wrong. I'm reposting that one, and then I've got some audio scripts, but I may not be able to finish either of my planned "That Poor Gnome" stories. I'm just haven't trouble figuring out the plot for some reason.

No, I agree. I think in the "real world," people probably just made existing ideas of godhead conform to their needs. Athena had both war and olives. Why? Why not just make her war and invent a new god just for olives? Too much trouble, that's why: just give her both. And wisdom. And owls.

I'm a "fewer gods, no Overgod" voter. Make them squabbling little bitches who can't agree on anything.

Yes - also, thinking logically about it, (Yes, I see the irony in that...) Leinyere has all these different races who would have their own gods. One OverGod for the whole continent doesn't make sense.

And I know Abasis, Goddess of Cats, would not bow down to another God. Well, maybe once as a prelude to disembowelling them...

Hi. Two questions.
I am writing an erotic tale set among veterans of a war fought between Humans and Orcs. Orcs being what they are, the human soldiers are all women-warriors, Amazons by analogy, the difference being that they have husbands at home waiting for them (to love and fuck the heroines).🤰🤱
The war lasts for a few decades, with no particular effect on global geopolitics or Nature (the usual meaningless Fantasy wars that prolong unnecessarily).
Is there a particularly suitable portion of the land? Where both humans and orcs live? Since this "Amazons' War" had never been mentioned before, perhaps it is appropriate for it to take place in some less frequented region.

Second question. I am also writing a very short tale about a Guild of Magical Cartographers 🧞‍♂️ who all live in a remote tower on top of a mountain (the mountain is for seeing things from above). Would it be reasonable to assume that the highest peak is in the Mountains of Mourn?🏔️

The Witch’s Tit is a prominent peak at the edge of Windscour.

But. There’s nothing around there except a mining operation at the base of the mountain. And I’d imagine even magical cartographers gotta eat and get wine somewhere.

So go ahead and invent your own mountain!

From memory, I don't think much happens in the SE, around Podl'adom. You could grow a mountain there, and have your battle around the river to the north. Sandwiched between the snowy hills and the desert, it would be prime real estate. 😎

Actually, @Norway_1705, could you let me know where you place the Mages tower? I need a remote location for my story and that could work nicely.

Thank You! @Rustyoznail I place the Guild Magic Mapmakers Tower in the highest peak of Witch's Tit, as suggested by @Voboy (if anyone may indicate which stories hint most at those mountains, I will reread them more carefully).
The logistics of nutrition are simple: the customer, who wishes to receive a magic map, must burn a symbolic amount of food and drink that "magically" appears in the Tower's warehouse, somewhat like Spock's teleportation (inanimate objects and cooked food only). Along with a letter of request (communicating peculiar needs, but also the Language and Alphabet and Culture of the customer) and a Drop of Blood, or other bodily liquid, to perform the magic.
Magical maps are also "burned" in the Tower and appear in the customer's hand. Fantasy WYSIWYG ASAP.
Mapmakers do not consume much food, and sometimes a map asked "from the heart" by a sincerely poor customer is worth more than a map paid billions of Quartos by a bored king with useless decorations, mermaids and dragons.
Not everyone in Leinyere knows how to ask for a map, so sometimes Cartographic Knowledge is reserved for some (as when Arya in Games of Thrones makes it clear that she cannot read the map she found).🌎🌍🌏
Of course, characters who are illiterate or unable to write (because they are blind or have hooves instead of hands) can dictate to a scribe, as was done in the trenches of the real world in 1914.

About the "Amazons War", Podl'adom will be perfect. Thank you.

My story from last year, ”It Pays To Be Nice Sometimes” (I think that’s the title) culminates in a battle at a mine in the base of the Tit. The latter part of my story has a bit to say about the surroundings: it’s rocky and treeless out there. Not altogether inviting. I think I pictured it like the stony valley where Bavmorda’s fortress is at the end of Willow.

Oh! "Willow" the movie! (1985?)
my brother always compared it to Ralph Bakshi's "Fire and Ice" (1984?). You triggered a memory!
thank you!

@Norway_1705 - Do your cartographers require the occasional pleasurable pursuits?

I could have my Silk lady visit them for an extended session. 🤔

Hi, I have an idea for a setting, as well as some history and lore, but I wanted to run it past you guys first before coming up with a plot. I want to make sure this fits in with the history, geography and overall canon of this world.

My story would be called something like “The Masked Dancers of [insert location]”

At some point in Leinyere's history (prehistory?), a coastal settlement was being attacked by invaders from across the sea, whose identities are lost to time. The men of the town went to war and successfully fought them off on the beaches, although many of them died.

A year later, the settlement was beset with a series of violent disasters, as the spirits of the dead men are seen haunting the coast.

The leaders of the settlement send a sorceror, skilled in necromancy to mediate with them. The sorceror learns that the dead were mostly young, unmarried men who never got the chance to experience carnal pleasure. They expected to return to the village as heroes, taking wives having proven their worth as men on the battlefield. The hauntings and violent disturbances are a result of their fury at being denied this, their unsatisfield lust, and their inability to move on to the afterlife.

The sorceror's solution was to persuade the prettiest young woman in the village to perform an erotic dance on a hill overlooking the beach in the dead of night. She agrees, but only on the condition that she wears a mask to protect her identity.

It works. The hauntings and disasters stop and everything goes back to normal.

However, every year, an attractive young woman needs to take the role of the masked dancer, and dance naked on the hill to appease the dead and prevent disaster.

Centuries later, this tradition continues, but it has expanded into a small festival. There are multiple dancers, all wearing masks even though they rarely care about anonymity. Taking on the role of a masked dancer has become a respected position, and some become celebrities.

The settlement has developed into a town due to all the business that this small festival draws in. It's like a cross between Glastonbury and Burning Man, but on a smaller scale. The festivities revolve around the masked dancers like the Man at Burning Man, with other entertainers travelling from across the continent to take part.

My story would take place in this part of the timeline, maybe revolving around a masked dancer, or someone travelling to the festival.

I just need to figure out a suitable location for the town – it would have to be a coastal town with temperate weather, suitable for farming. I'm open to any suggestions.

I plan on reading previous submissions to flesh this out. If anyone can tell me if there are parts to my idea that might break the canon, or wouldn't fit into the world or timeline somehow, that would be appreciated.

EDIT: Sorry for the long post!

I'd suggest the northeast coast. I'm pretty sure very few stories have been set there, which frees you to do almost anything you want. But any of the northern coasts, I think, will be more temperate than any of the southern ones.

I like your plot!

Northeast coast? Okay, thanks! I read further back in the thread that the north coast might be more tropical, and closer to the equator. I'm going for something more like the Mediterranean.

Maybe inside Kelthala's Wound?

Anywhere you put it, you can adjust the climate to your liking a bit I think.

This sounds like a nice, compact story that wouldn't threaten any but a very specific timeline.
