2023 "Tales of Leinyere" Story Event: Official Support Thread

Are there any barbarian lands or peoples? Or perhaps an early time before a currently-civilized region(s) became that way?

IIRC, this is why we made Leinyere so big: there's room for almost anything.

You want a barbarian land? Claim one! Just let @Nouh_Bdee know where you want it, and he'll deconflict it (if necessary) and put it on the map.

I second everything Voboy said!
Also, there is PLENTY of Before-Time. Most of the stories so far take place thousands of years after "The Destruction of the Ancients", so Leinyere a few hundred years AtDotA would look VERY different and probably be pretty uncivilized

I'm mulling a second story, a story of uncool Silicon Valley bros getting schooled by hot, sassy women, only Silicon Valley will be a mages' guild in the suburbs of Giltan's Port and the hot, sassy women will be whores from Peach Quay.

It'll be a sendup of corporate culture and mandatory professional development, I think. If it goes.

Speaking of whores, what makes a Silk? How does a Cotton become a Silk? Looks, attitude, sexual prowess, maybe magical ability would play a part but who makes the final decision? Does the being sit an exam, then they have to pass a practical with the Guild leader?

Not really important to my story, but I thought I'd just launch that plot bunny out there. 🤣

Funny you should ask. I was just pondering about this.

Usually it's a sliding scale. The best whore in a tiny, rural village can call herself a Lady of Lace, just because she's the best; the rest of the local whores figure out their place pretty much by supply and demand. And, perhaps, being put in her place by a beatdown or two. I think of the different gradients as a pricing scheme, not a guarantee of quality. The Laciest whore in a rural shithole, if she came to ply her trade in the city, would probably find herself needing to reevaluate her own prowess.

But I've just now invented a union system for the urban whores of Giltan's Port, and I'd assume the shop stewards would enforce a certain pricing hierarchy. The whores I might use in my new story are members of the United Sisterhood of Charwomen and Harlots Local 418, proudly serv[ic]ing the discerning gentlemen of the Peach Quay neighborhood.

I assume the union has little sway outside the cities, and of course some places are bound to be right-to-work areas.

Thanks, Voboy

My idea is set a few years later than my first story when smaller Mage powered autolandaus are relatively common. A Silk from the Port is hired to visit Norway_1705's cartographers at Witch's Tit. She has to hire an apprentice fire mage from the nearest "Mage Motion" station, as the Fire Mage Guild can't (or won't) get a vehicle to travel more than two hours without magical intervention for a very reasonable fee.

Much hilarity ensues. I'm not exactly sure what though.

If you want her to join the union, I'll need to forward her an application. Let me know.:nana:

Much comic ribaldry, I'd imagine, could arise if a professional Union whore finds herself trying to pull rank in the Stews. I would think the local slatterns might take umbrage.

"Oh, so you think because you swallowed an Anocot's cock you're better than us? I've mated with three Bullboars and left them wanting more. Your Union malarky doesn't hold any weight here."

That'll work. 🤣

Hi guys, thanks for the help so far. I decided to set my story in a large town called Bremasdon on the coast of Kelthala's Wound, north of Westwound. This is where the festival of masked dancers is held. The protagonist is from a smaller coastal village to the north east, called Breagos.

I thought my plot would be a bawdy retelling of a Soldier Jack story, where the protagonist is returning from war somewhere inland, with hardly anything to his name, and is guided to Bremasdon to find his fortune and a masked dancer for a wife.

One question: are there any stories that reference the deities Systava or Cuvehr? I plan on involving one of them, and if they have some background in the stories, I'd like to read it.

Systava is referenced a bit in Queen of the She Wolves, and Cum and Other Drugs. Both mostly in her older, Ouksenn identity.
I have a story for this round that’s all about Cuvehr. PM me if you want and I’d be more than happy to let you read it

I'm talking about Cuvehr in this year's story. I don't think I had all that much to say about any attributes; it's mostly just people mentioning Cuvehr.

I do have a bit about a guy who's a little nervous about cumming the night before. Here's what I say about it:

I’d need to pray later, propitiating the gods for my unfortunate lust last night, but I was sure we could find a priest somewhere on the elven highroad. Another half-penny, for Cuvehr Of The Hard Cock this time, and I’d be good as new.

The idea being that you can buy forgiveness with offerings, like the way the Catholics operated in the middle ages.

Thanks for the suggestions, this is appreciated. In my story, one or maybe both of those deities might show up to the protagonist in disguise, something that happens a lot in mythology. It would be useful to get a feel for their personalities and tendencies before I write them in.

Well, if it’s Cuvehr, they’re definitely going to want to fuck them, but they’d be chill about it

Hey all! just got around to kicking off my story for this event. So... added some lore stuff / culture / geography that could be added and/or I wanted to double check to make sure it's not conflicting with anything else that's already established.

I've introduced a new region in my story, the 'Queendom' of Myssea, which should be located far to the north of Kelthala's Wound (if that's alright). It's a small, remote island chain that is notoriously difficult to sail to, inhabited by the Myssean people, a peaceful seafaring civilization of women (think Amazons without an ounce of warrior blood).

I've also added some lore about constellations, referred to in these two excerpts from my story:

(1) "Myssea was over there, beyond where the storm subsided. Hyla knew it with absolute certainty because she could see the Slumbering Tortoise peaking his head just above the glow of the southern horizon, and above him the majestic Firebird stretching out his vast wings, pointing his beak towards lonely Dracona, the Northern polestar, and in the east the Great Watcher, dipping her starry feet into the sea, her watchful eyes ever twinkling. Hyla knew by heart which stars in these constellations to draw imaginary lines through to find her direction home. Every Myssean, even the littlest girl, knew how to use the stars to find their way home. And Hyla wasn’t just any little girl. She was the princess of Myssea."

(2) "..then, to comfort her, her mother proceeded to tell the story about the Great Hunter and the Mermaid, tracing out the corresponding stars that hung above them with a finger. She told of how the hunter chased the mermaid for years and years, deep into the great fjords of Kelthala’s Wound, until the mermaid could swim no more, and when the hunter finally had the spear to her chest, how he looked into her eyes and fell in love.
Hyla had heard the story a million times, but it was her favorite story, and hearing her mother’s soothing voice, and seeing the hunter above chase the mermaid southward, knowing their happy destiny, fear had finally left her heart."

Would be interesting to know if anyone else has already figured out a constellation system! Constellations and stellar navigation are important aspects to my story both plotwise and worldbuilding-wise. Of course, I understand different cultures will likely have different names for the stars.

I'm only about a thousand words into my story :S. How's everyone doing with theirs?

I added those towns to the map. Do you like the placement?

I was picturing something much farther to the north, but I guess that might not be possible to show on the map... Also alot tinier :)
I was thinking something super far from anywhere a la Hawaiian islands or Guam but I can see how that might be difficult to convey on the map...
Also what's the climate like up north?

Close to the equator, so warmer than the south. Hawaii would be perfect

Ah. Yeah, unfortunately I already put them at Size 1 (the smallest possible) and at the top edge.
If you’d like, I could change it to just an arrow pointing north?

An arrow might be better!
It would be consistent with the lore in my story too. Myssea considered a legend by most sailors.

I did it, but I don't love the look of the arrow. Turns out Inkarnate doesn't have an arrow stamp. I had to "make" one out of three heraldry shields. What do you think?

Tbh the arrow looks like a penis with an oversized head 😅
I'm cool with it if that's what we're going for! I'm also cool just not having it mentioned on the map at all. Most of my story will take place in and around Giltans port anyways.

Wow! Haha, that was not what I was going for, but now I kind wish i could just put a penis there. :ROFLMAO:

I did change it, though. I realized I could C+P an arrow from a word processor, so now it's a normal arrow
