Sorry for my ignorance (and being lazy for not going out and find what this is on my own) but what is a butterfly board?

I have this scary image in my mind of those boards they use to mount butterflies... pinning the butterfly to it with it's wings all spread open... except instead of a butterfly it's my nutsack.... LOL... ohhh shivers... medieval torture device sounding isn't it?
