E-Written Fairy Tale Anthology - A new author challenge

I know I have read stories of orcs having sex with wargs on this site. People get freaky with minotaur all the time.

The rule of thumb is you can go into an enchanted forest and have sex with the Unicorn, you can't go to the zoo and have sex with a giraffe. No matter much everyone want to get deep throat by a giraffe, it's not allowed.

I would think the bigger concern is age. Some of the stories, like little red riding hood, there should be a disclaimer that she is 18, not 8.

Oh yeah, I forgot that in the original stories they're not of age at all. I mean, you'd expect that to be your first thought when you see a story like Hansel and Gretel but I've seen so many porn parodies of Red Riding Hood that it slipped my mind. Good call!

Gab's opening tale is fantastic and a great way to start the anthology- people should get out there and read it!

I am toying with the idea of investigating some Rainbow Serpent tales from Australia's Aboriginal people, but I fear that might be getting too close to spiritual beliefs and not fairy-tales. I have also considered rewriting the Nativity, but I suspect it would peeve some well-meaning Christian folk. Plus, of course, Mary was well underage!

Cinderealla would be my favourite tale, but having a prince go around to find the sheath his sword fits into the way he remembered it might be taking it a step too far if you get my drift ;-)

You can't 'age up' TV or movie characters, but can you 'age up' fairy tale characters? Hansel, Gretel, Jack, Jill, Li'l Red?

TV and movie characters have official ages, like all the Disney princesses have an official age listed on the Disney website, somewhere between 15 and 19. Is there an age for some of the others? My limited understanding of the rules is up aging is not allowed, the characters either are or are not of age.

I know it threw me for a loop, a few of those princesses get married in their official storylines and they are way under 18. Apparently Disney set Beauty and the Beast and Mulan in magical Alabama.

Hansel and Gretel are over 18 in the movie, so that works

The Nativity would be the greatest story ever. The official Mary was 14, but she is in a different stable on the other side of town. Which would make the story even better when everyone shows up to the wrong stable. Why would they even be going to Bethlehem for a Roman census, wouldn't they want everyone to get counted in the place they live? They want to be looking for a Mary from Nazareth. Not Mary of Bethlehem.

Can it be something we have already posted or does it have to be new?

I ask as this is the series I am currently writing and need to know if I have to finish Red Riding Hood or enter one I have already done.

Is that a rule here? Also these things don't need to rhyme do they?

Most Disney characters are not really "Disney" characters. They're based on very old fairy tales where the ages are not clear. I don't see why there would be any problem writing a story based on Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, the Little Mermaid, whoever, as long as they are 18 in your story.

I'm working on a Snow White story that takes place after her 18th birthday. I don't expect a problem. Snow White predates Disney.

But for that matter the movie itself, as I recall, does not clearly make her under 18. So I definitely don't see why there would be a problem.
