I'm allergic to eggs and anyone allergic to them should NOT get a flu shot of any kind!!

Should I ask why??

Because it's a vaccine which is grown in eggs, so may have traces of egg protine in it.

It hurts a little too - my arm is almost back to normal today (I had it 2 days ago).

lol I have a sligh alergy to eggs... I'm sure it wouldn't effect me that much. But does that really mean anyone allergic to eggs can't get that vaccine?? Shouldn't they have thought of that?

There are vaccines for egg allergy, but they're not always available.

While these are Canadian articles, they're good nonetheless.

It could be a matter of when they contracted the virus and when they got the vaccine? Were those two events close together?

What kind of vaccine did they get? The nose spray is made with a live virus and can possibly make you moderately ill. The shot is made with a dead virus and in no way can give you the flu, although minor flu symptoms can develop from your body's reaction to rev up to attack the dead virus. Both vaccines take several days to build up the body's immune response. So, if you get the flu shot on Tuesday and you actually come in contact with the real flu virus on Thursday, you are going to get the flu. It takes roughly a week for the body's immune response to be good enough for the vaccine to prevent you from getting the flu. Also, there are many flu strains and the symptoms can all be similar. Unless your children were specifically tested for having H1N1 (most places don't actually test for this, they just assume it is H1N1) it is possible your kids actually came down with a seasonal flu and did not have H1N1.

So, both of my children had the vaccine and both contracted H1N1. I know that with the seasonal flu vaccine, if one has the vaccine and comes down with the flu it is generally minor. With one of my kids, this past week was very, very scary. If hers was a milder case, I cannot imagine coming down with the full blown virus.

Both are okay now. Neither my husband nor I got the vaccine and we are fine. Clearly the occurence in one family is not an indicator for the larger population, but I do have to say I'm questioning the process right now.

they already had it. Over 70% in my child's school has had it. By the time the vaccine gets here it will have run its course. My child got his first dose in the beginning of Oct and the second last week. He is one of the few that is not getting sick.
