Is Claudine Gay a Plagiarist?

Finally, someone who actually posts opinions of people that matter in the discussion. Harvard alum, donors and students.

The rest is noise and stupidity. Sadly, it took that stupidity to bring this to the forefront and that should concern Harvard alumni and donors more than anything.

And what do they say? She should resign because of her accurate testimony? No....she should resign because of her writing, which is questionable.

Her testimony "under oath" was evasive, to say the least:

"Gay at the hearing was eviscerated by Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who continued to ask the Harvard president whether student protesters calling for the genocide of Jews is allowed on campus.

Gay reiterated that the campus protects free speech, even of views that are offensive and hateful. She refused to characterize calls for the genocide of Jews as a breach of Harvard’s code of conduct, instead saying the offense depends on the context.

Her testimony was “stunning and utterly disappointing,” Harvard Hillel President Jacob Miller said as the Jewish student group called on Gay to take action against those using threatening speech.

“President Gay’s refusal to draw a line around threatening antisemitic speech as a violation of Harvard’s policies is profoundly shocking given explicit provisions within the conduct code prohibiting this kind of bullying and harassment,” Harvard Hillel posted. “We are appalled by the need to state the obvious: A call for genocide against Jews is always a hateful incitement of violence.

If it was "evasive", that would be because the code of conduct doesn't answer binary questions that were asked.

No excuses. The code.of conduct specifically requires context of harm. She testified to this. This isn't her fault as she didn't create the code or have any input on it.

The questions weren't meant to do anything except get dipshits upset over people rather than policy. That's the right wing way

She was an Affirmative Action hire and suffered from the inherent limitations of a non-meritocracy university system that has become convinced that all of the ills of the world can be rectified if we just judge the person by the facade and not their content of character and engage in reparations for a sin that nobody alive committed.

Did she plagiarize? I don't think she did consciously so but I also do not think, based upon watching her testimony, that she has what it takes to produce original work instead, in a publish-or-perish culture she produces derivative work as so many do. I don't think anyone really reads 90% of published papers, it's just something you have to do to keep advancing in the governmental-educational complex.

Do you realize that schools like Harvard sit on millions and millions, maybe billions, of dollars from endowments and alumni gifts, not to mention the sky-high tuition that they don't spend because our government keeps funneling money (tax dollars from people who could never get into those schools) to them? That's why they have to hire people like their current President, to stay optically in the good graces of government largess which increasingly has social justice boxes that need to be checked before they break out the pallets of cash that never produce the anticipated result (an Iranian joke).
