new poems

Just another manic Monday...

with some help from the Bangles, I bring my review of the new poems for Monday, May 31st.

Monday has been the day of audio poems... and today brought us several. My favorite of the audio poems was beautifully presented by Lady Christabel with a stunning reading of And the Feeling is Still with Me. Wonderful words enhanced spectacularly with her reading.

With a nice use of meter and rhyme, fawnie tells you to Close Your Eyes.

"For love that stands the test of time
and overshadows all the lies,
can not be forced upon a soul
even chains the heart denies."

Luna Lit brought us a number of poems today, of those poems I found two I really liked. In an icy look at isolation her Untitled has a razor's edge, while in a completely different direction, Paint Me a River paints her poem with some wonderful images. Read it and enjoy.

It is definately spring... In celebration, fabmax brings us Pinks and Spring in a pastoral setting:

"The pinks straining towards the sun
are blooming again
As my own love goes to sleep
The ivy is beautiful and winding"

Echoes_s brings some more beautiful imagery with her loving, chaste featuring some excellent whispering alliteration.

Against the backdrop of a cicada swarm Dreamsweet brings us an excellent poem once Again. Read, comment and vote.

Amid the wonderful imagery of the poems above, Wicked Eve displays an incredible depth of expression, bringing attention to the often unnoticed beauty in the simplest things. The setting she creates in so few words in Alfonso is amazing:

"On that familiar stretch of dirt,
where kicked-up dust
lured out the curiously mundane,
Momma drove slowly
while I watched for Alfonzo--"

You can almost taste the dust. In another beautiful poem, her images turn erotic in Gently This Time. Read it and enjoy.

RazzRajen continues our erotic adventures today, tantalizing us with music as he brings us Slacked Hungers:

"White foam crescendo's
Played on lithe limbs,
a glissando taken to a level she
never before felt,"

In his trademark toying with words, Liar heeds us not to let our Attention Slip, for if we do we will miss the stunning erotica suspended in his words. I can still picture that image... wow.

In the gentle touch of fingertips, Smartnsassy brings us a fresh bit of erotica in Entrapment. Take a peek:

"The back of his neck

Is what I remember most

When I put my hand there

And cradled it in my hands"

And now for something completely different (with my apologies to Monty Python) Denis Hale brings us a shadier bit of erotica as he is Waiting on Kelly and Katrina. Pack up your little blue pills, you won't need them here.

Dissolved Girl brings some interesting wordplay in her wonderfully erotic love sleeps still:

"I sing luscious music
as you   eat   my
raw     pink     rose

we lick beauty beneath bare breasts..."

Stepping away from the erotic, two poems today bring us the complex emotion of loss. Vampiric_Mirage was inspired by Syndra Lynn's poem about her grandmother, and composed a tribute to My Grandma: Forgotten Memories with a wonderful combination of images and memories. You can feel the emotion here.

In another poem of loss and my favorite poem today, tarablackwood22 places a rose at the grave of Michael. Her memories bring a warmth in the heart of the bitter cold.

"a warm boy, damp
with timeless trance
and ballooning celebration
who slept hard and still"

And those are the new poems that grabbed my attention today. Be sure to read through them all and find some gems of your own.

I hope you have had a good Memorial Day in a time when memories are so important.

And poets, please let's be poetic out there.

Thank you for the kind words, I really appriciate it.

Extra thankyous to echoes_s, WickedEve, minsue, My Erotic Tail and tarablackwood22 for your comments. I wish I could take a plane to wherever you are and hug you personally.

Would it be unseemly to take up a collection for the ticket? ;)

Jim, I look forward to reading your take on the new poems every week. Thank you for all that you do here. :rose:

As always Jim, a very nice selection of recommendations. Many different kinds, and good comments about them. You do good review.

Thanks for the mention of Attention Slip (and for the comment on the, um, other one :) )

Forgot to say my thanks to Cordelia yesterday, so here's a :rose: for you too.

Glad you liked Alfonso. He was quite a character.
Also, glad you enjoy the erotic/moth poem, the poem my man laughed at. I told him the moth image was erotic!
And my last poem today was To Quell a Winged Thing, which all of you avoided like the plague! Just because I took the middle out and edited it several hundred times, does not mean that it doesn't work... well, okay. It needs to go back into the poetry shop for a tune up. :)

Thank you Jim, for taking time to read and review poetry for today, and your kind mention of my poem...

and thank you Liar, Jim, Tath, Tara for reading and leaving pc's...

 Thank you, Jim

Not only does Jim do an incomparable job on Monday's reviews as always, but with his typical humility, he fails to mention his own fine work that appeared today. All are excellent, and I link them below for everyone to see for themselves.

I'm glad you mentioned those! I told myself to do it earlier, and then I forgot.

Unfortunately, most reviewers do not mention their own poems...and these themselves are worth as much recognition as any

thanks jim!

i was abit surprised you made mention of it to be honest..
i'm packing and moving and trying to post a 100 notes..hardly have time to put much effort into poetry so it's lacking..i've read most all of the writers rompin around these boards now, i'm thrilled to be brushing shoulders with such wonderfully creative writers..i have every intention of listening and learning..
and hopefully letting a few rub off on me..oh i just know someones going to say something sexual now..lol
thanks again jim,

thanks

for the mention Jim.

Your kind words
are much appreciated
indeed!

best,

It's Tuesday already?!?

I just made a quick check of the New Poems page. A nice small number for today, especially considering there are 2 of us for Tuesdays. :D

I won't have time to read them until after work, but I had to check out the newest E-worthy poem. WickedEve's Scream. You should, too. Those Editors know what they're talking about.

:rose:

Re another manic Monday

jim

again thanks for the mention and time and effort you put into doing the reviews.

Wonderful recommendations and a great job!

Thanks

Razz :p

I've read, I've loved, I've voted. I'll be back in a bit to tell you all about it. ;)

And what possesses you to do this at 3 in the morning?

Randi, in a civilised time zone. ;)

Civilised my ass! I know you better than that, Randi dear. :D

I'm so glad I volunteered to take a regular turn at the New Poems thread since that means I take the time to go through and read them all at least once a week. I always mean to, but more often than not I end up getting distracted as I'm reading and I never go back and finish. That's too bad because I'm always so impressed and amazed by the poetry posted here daily.

First up for today, Tathagata astounds yet again with five, count 'em five!, new poems today. My favorite of the group being No Regrets:

and I drink in your sin
like a mornings tea
with no thought of retribution or karma

Who's to say I've picked the right one, though? Go read them all.

New poets still abound and I'm so glad that they do. There are two debut poems today from iamslainfwomp. Poetic Nympho was definitely my pick of the two and one of the highlights of my day!

Don’t make me wait! Show me your naughty devices
(tested clean - thank God - of cliches and splices).
And while I know some word play is fun and all,
pin my assonance passionately against the wall!

I dare you to read it without grinning. :D

Randi Grail delights with two more today. I had read and loved Listen already on the board here, but I fell in love with her other poem of the day: Big Hats.

And fluttering we swirled
in the sudden weather blush
of adventure,
forgetting our heads,
to soar for a while

Truly lovely. :rose:

Next up in my list of new peoms and new poets picks comes Kajira Callista with Laid Bare.

He knows how to get in
Walks right through the door
Of the place I show no one
I let him in my mind
Show him my soul

It's quite impressive to have a big red H on your first poem and on the day it posts, Kajira. It's also well deserved.

Another poet, joiphulone, also debuted today with 2 poems. Dreams caught my eye and my empathy.

Fear is the obstacle of dreams
It halts the journey to one’s truest self
Placing limitations and constrictions
Making the heart grow cold.

Please keep sharing your poems, Joi.

The always amused fawnie had another new one post today. I hadn't realized how many you have, fawnie! I must go read the rest. And before I do, I'll let you bid us Farewell. (Ooh, I just can't pass up a cheesy post. :D Luckily, the poem isn't.)

If a trail of rose petals would make your journey peaceful
and softer with each step,
I'd gladly pluck them one by one,

There were other great New Poems today, including WE's that I mentioned this morning. Please go read everyone. And I'm sure it sounds silly, but it's sincere when I say, "Thanks for letting me play." The talent here never ceases to amaze me and I am constantly humbled before you all. :rose:

It's hard

to make me blush, but I believe you all have done it. My little poem, Seeing Both Sides somehow earned a little H and I am floored! Just a sassy little look at the Napa Valley through bisexual eyes.

Many thanks to all who read, voted and commented.

Bright Blessings to all my Poet Family!

IT had ME floored. :rose:

Thank you Minsue for your review of Listen and Big Hats. They were both products of the swirl of creativity that goes on in the All Of A Sudden- thread.

And an extra thankyee goes out to WickedEve's Big Hat. :D

Thanks so much, for my first poem i am pretty amazed myself :rose:

AWEET SWEET METAPHOR--NEVER SEEN BETTER

Mayacamas rise feminine
to our west
soft, tree-covered
like supple earth breasts

Vaca Mountains jut masculine
to the east
sculpted in bronze
strong shoulders, biceps to hold us

Beside silver river on richest soil
in the valley between am I
fertile and lush
admiring and desiring both

Thank you so much for quoting this, JC. I meant to mention it earlier, along with a couple of others actually. I'll have to go back and figure out what else I left out.

Syn, that H is very well-deserved. :rose:

amused is good! lol
